Stayed for a quick weekend in March after picking up our new Motorhome - Site & facilities are very clean and the pitches a good size. Play area for kids and dog walk around the field where a patch has been made through the grass. The owners are really helpful and approachable - Katrina cooks lovely cakes which went down and made the weekend just that little bit special.
Already booked to go back and recommend anyone looking for a nice relaxing site (there is an adults only section also) and love local quality drink and produce to visit the site.

A very peaceful and extremely well run site. The facilities were always spotless. The grounds immaculate. Katrina, Chris, Dave and his wife could not have been more friendly and helpful. By the way, Katrina's fruit cake (to her granny's recipe) is to die for!
The huge field for children to play on is great. Only downside for us was that whilst there is a very good dog walk around the field, we have small terriers who love to run and rummage in hedges etc, but they had to be kept on a lead. We appreciate the reasons for this but they only time they had a good run was in a park in nearby Shrewsbury.
It is worth mentioning for those who have a motorhome, parking in Shrewsbury can be a nightmare but Reception have a very good street map which should help.
Also worth noting too, don't bother trying to get to a supermarket in town as there is a very good well-stocked one just down the road at the petrol station in Ford.

What a gem of a campsite! Beautifully maintained with well sized individual pitches separated by hedging and a friendly welcome from the warden on our arrival The dog walking field is nice and large (with a thoughtfully mown track around the perimeter) Toilet block lovely and warm and immaculately clean. The shop sells local produce and the rustic barn-bar had a nice homely atmosphere. We look forward to returning for a longer stay when we can explore the local area more thoroughly.

What a gem of a site, friendly owners and wardens, asked for advice regarding area and was given plenty of information. Loved the on-site bar/shop we are looking at October and possibly a seasonal pitch next year. Highly recommended.

We stayed for a weekend and loved this small but very well run site. Situated in rolling countryside with views of distant hills, Cartref has well-spaced out pitches with hard stands. We stayed in the adult area on a super service pitch which was excellent. Toilet/shower block is 5 star as is the small bar in the garden which was hosting the rugby on the TV. Add to this the warmest of welcomes and we will definitely return and would highly recommend.

Stayed again, that's twice this year. 5 days this time.
Cannot fault the site at all.
Pitches are bordered by little hedges. Pitches level. Toilet and washing facilities excellent. Free hot showers and dish washer basin's.
Launderette on site.
Little bar and shop.
Small friendly site run by the owners, Chris and Katrina.
Excellent value. 3 adults £22. 50 per night including electric hook up and no extra charge for awnings.
Down towards Shrewsbury there is the Oxen site, but a large site owned by a National Company and MANAGED by staff, and if my maths is correct it would have been £34 per night.
Absolutely no comparison, Cartref wins every time.
Will certainly be back in 2017 and highly recommended.
Anyone thinking of staying at Cartref will not be disappointed.

Not a good start to the holiday. Arrived four hours late on the back of an RAC flatbed trailer. Things improved hugely when we arrived. Owners Chris and Katrina helped us get set up and were very welcoming. Two days later our awning blew down(our fault for not securing it properly) and Chris again came to our rescue, making sure it was safe until we returned from our day out.
The site is lovely. Quiet and peaceful. Good sized hard standing and the facilities are well maintained. Nice little shop and a bar, which we didn't visit but it looked nice and quirky!
Lots to see and do. Shrewsbury is a lovely town and Ironbridge needs at least two visits.
All in all, after a stressful start the holiday was great. One of the nicest sites we've stayed on!

Cartref is a well-manicured-and-maintained site located a few miles outside Shrewsbury. As such, it is ideally situated for visiting the many sights to see in the county - including Ironbridge, Coalbrookdale, the Severn Valley Railway at Bridgnorth, Attingham Park, Powis Castle and historic Shrewsbury itself. If the weather is especially hot, the sea at Barmouth is also just over an hour or so away by car.
The site itself has a family section and an adult-only section. Both have hardstanding, the latter with fully-serviced pitches. There is a clean and modern facilities block with free showers. The owners are friendly and helpful, and run a small shop selling locally-produced food. They also man up a small bar by the reception should you find your caravan becoming too claustrophobic (although Wifi is available for a small charge should you prefer to surf the net instead).
There is an adjacent playing field for the children and for dog walking, although the adjacent lanes are also quiet enough to enjoy a stroll along. The cost is £18 per night, with extra for the serviced pitches.
It all makes for a pleasant stay, whether for a weekend or a holiday exploring the Welsh Marches. Cartref is also about fifteen minutes from the A5/M54, so can be used for overnighting if travelling from the south-east to North Wales.

My husband, 2 children and I have just spent 5 nights here and I cant praise the site enough. The owners are very friendly and helpful and always on hand.
There are 3 toilets and 3 showers in each of the male and female toilet blocks and also 2 curtained stalls with just sinks for washing, and everything is spotless.
There is a laundry room and a cabin with local information and a freezer for your ice blocks.
The small on site shop stocks all the essentials with a small café and evening bar if you would like a quiet relaxing drink.
The site itself is flat, well laid out and spacious.
Each pitch has some privacy due to the hedges, trees and planting. There is a small play area and ball game field for the kids, and a dog walking track.
Shrewsbury town centre is only 4 miles away but there is a CO-OP, chip shop and Chinese take away closer.
The site is ideal if you want a quiet peaceful getaway.
Before we left we booked again for next year.

We were given an information leaflet on this lovely site when we purchased our new motorhome from Salop Leisure. We decided to give it a try as we needed to pop back in to Salop for a couple of minor repairs so we made a few days break away whilst in the area.
We had initially only booked two nights, but due to a slight change in plans we needed a pitch for Saturday night as well, we rang on the off chance that we may be lucky enough to stay the extra night & we were glad that we did as it was arranged with no fuss at all.
We were booked in the adults only from the Sunday, but our last minute night would be in the family area. We were offered a choice of two available pitches, we initially chose the one & then changed our mind a short time later, no problem at all so we changed pitches. On the Sunday morning 'Hubbie' decided he liked where were were so we would stay put, once again no problem Katrina happily allowing us to stay where we preferred.
Monday morning we had to go off site & when we returned the pitch opposite us was vacant, we might actually prefer that one! A quick pop to see Katrina & yes we could move pitches again if we would like to, what a friendly & accommodating lady, you could not wish for better.
The site was busy as you would expect at this time of the year but no late night noise at all, they have just opened 'bartref', a small area made into a bar area for socialising in the evening. It is proving to be very popular & closes about 10pm to keep the quiet time in the evening.
We have only given the site an 8 for location purely because you do need transport to get anywhere (although this of cause means little road noise) if you have a motorhome you have to take it off site as we didn't find any bus stops locally.
A very nice small site which has only been owned by Chris & Katrina for eighteen months, they have made many improvements in that short time & we were told that the facilities block is also to get a revamp this winter. We wish them every success in their venture & we have already booked again for their charity weekend in October.
