We've just returned from this lovely site. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, always ready for a chat and to give any information required. The site itself is terraced, and runs at right angles to the main road through Combe Martin. Although close to the road it is very quiet, with little or no road noise. It is beautifully kept, rubbish bins are emptied each day.
The showers are great - large cubicles and loads of hot water at all times - although it would be a good idea to put a door between the showers and toilets as it does get a bit draughty if the wind is blowing the wrong way! Both loos and showers are kept very clean, too. Play area was a little disappointing - you had to go over some soggy grass, and it's tucked away with a stream running down one side of it, so you need to be there with the younger kids.
The views from the site are beautiful, right up the valley one way, and you can just see the sea the other. We heard cuckoo's, foxes and owls, and saw rabbits and deer. The dawn chorus is the loudest I've ever heard!
We were only a short walk from Combe Martin, too. There's a fab bakery up the street, and the food in the Royal Marine was v.good. there's a shop that sells homemade fudge - great for gifts. out and about, the Dinosaur park is expensive but fab! my son and daughter loved it. in the opposite direction is Watermouth Castle, however it doesn't open on Saturdays, so we'll try it next time!
We're going back in July, as we loved it so much.

Not a bad site but not the very best, either. We visited over the bank holiday weekend so must make allowances for the site being very busy. Having said that, we stayed on past the very busy time and never did get a really hot shower although, on the up side, we didn't have to queue long for facilities even on Friday & Saturday. Having read the reviews, I was surprised by the variety of food offered in the pubs in Combe Martin and didn't have to resort to "batter & chips" at all, although the food & service in the pub nearest the campsite were very poor. A shortish walk up the high street brings you to the George & Dragon (bottom George) which doesn't seem to be frequented by holiday makers. The food there is plentiful and more than adequate.

Easy to find as situated on the main road through Combe Martin, although on a bend. The staff were welcoming and helpful, providing us with a map of where we were to site our tents (travelled with another party so had two tents and a gazebo). We had reserved three pitches due to the size of our tents and we were very pleased with the location. The site is in terraces and provides each tier with their own view. The toilet block was apparently cleaned 4 times a day, but sometimes looked a little grubby. There were seldom queues for the showers which seemed more than adequate, and there were plenty of toilets. After assuring my 15yr old and her friend that they did not need to take hair dryers and straightners etc, as there would be no electricity for them, there was actually one socket in the shower area which they took great delight in showing me! The dishwashing facilities were ok, but only three places so sometimes there were people waiting. There is a good area of grass for the children to play ball games etc, slightly away from the tents. The fishing lake looked lovely - but not being into fishing I cant comment more! The prices seem fine and the site generally felt secure and well run. We intend to revisit this site. Combe Martin was great, just enough gift shops to keep the kids entertained, and food/drink outlets to keep the adults sane. Super little beach, mainly shingle, but ideal for all ages with rock pools etc when the tide goes out. This area seems to have managed to avoid the mass markets and has retained it's charm. There are towns to visit, but still lots of pretty villages and interesting places to visit. I can recommend Keypitts Quads and Stables. It was expensive but well worth the money. Both the Dads and our respective 15yr old girls, and 12 yr old boys had a blast, got covered in mud and said it was the best part of the holiday! Also, visit Lynton & Lynmouth, very pretty and the railway was a great attraction. Fantastic area.

An extremely pleasant site. We enjoyed the quietness of it and the fact you can walk into Combe Martin down the footpath to the beach or along the road (beware the lack of pavement on the corner) within 5-10 mins. Lots of lovely rockpools, the beach will keep you occupied for hours. Would also endorse the Royal Marine hotel/pub. The site does choose your pitch for you, but are willing to move you if you prefer another, bookings allowing of course. The new owners do plan to allow dogs later on, likely to be in the end field. We had the ducks visiting for their breakfast and heard many owls in the night. Lovely spot.

This site has just been taken over by new owners (May 2006) and they seem to be concentrating on making things tidy and even better. A very quiet site, apart from two jolly friendly Mallard ducks who will hop into your tent quacking if you are feeding them in the morning! It's just a short walk to Coombe Martin centre. Food in the Royal Marine is the best in town, had a bit of a delay getting served but worth it. A couple of other pubs also provide food and drink, so no need to get bored with one place. A couple of supermarkets and a bakery are there as well. The site is set out in layers (a bit like large steps) but plenty of room and plenty of elec hook-up points etc, so no need to be on top of one another. Choose your location carefully as some pitches are slightly obscured by trees if you want the sun all day. Facilities spotless and staff unbelieveably helpful. A large lake stocked with fish keeps the anglers happy. No pets allowed. Nearest large supermarket is a brand new Tesco in Ilfracombe. The best kept secret on the North Devon coast, so don't tell anyone, the price is good as well! Next year we are going back.

Just come back from Combe Martin for the bank holiday weekend. Weather terrible for Friday and Saturday rained constantly but the site still filled up. Had to make use of tumble dryers which I thought were cheap 50p for 20mins and more than enough to dry rain soaked jeans / towels etc. Also noticed an iron and washing facilities in the same room. Showers very clean and I am very fussy, never had to wait for one and always hot. Pitches very well spaced loads of space even for massive tents and cars. Lovely lake to walk round and fish from and very close to town, although not a lot of choice for restaurants I can recommend the F'oc'astle pub / restaurant right on the beach it doesn't look exciting but found the food and service to be excellent. Book early if you want to eat in the Royal Mariner they were fully booked every night.

July 2004 We visited this site in July 2004, (admittedly by accident as we had read about the skips, but it was late and we were desperate!)
However,it turned out to be a good choice. It was very quiet - probably the quietest site I have stayed on. The sheep do bleat, but I would rather have this than late night revellers. As recompense we had spotted flycatchers and goldcrests flitting about outside our van.
The rates are very acceptable and although there was some activity with the skips, it was very limited and not early morning or late night. We were not disturbed by this atall.
The location is fantastic as you can walk into Coombe Martin in a few minutes and the local bus service to various points is excellent, good value and actually runs on time! Coastal walks from the site are brilliant and you can catch the bus back - it is the sort of service that generally stops if you put your hand out! We found the only downside to Coombe Martin to be the food in the pubs is of the fish and chips variety - with very limited choice of healthy food i.e. anything without batter or chips!
We would return to this site.

aug 2003 Lovely site. Easy to find. Clean, friendly and it IS child friendly. Tent pitches are well spaced on tiered levels and nightly noise is minimal for a camp site. Washing facilities are excellent and, for a packed out site, there was very little waiting. The location is excellent for exploring the rest of the devon coast line. Our only, rather fussy, reservation was that the site didn't have a shop/restaurant. But for a 4 minute walk two well stocked mini-markets and various pubs/restuarants can be easily found in Coombe Martin. A very pleasant stay.

The site is set on the side of a valley, just outside Combe Martin. It's a long site, rather than being roundish and is tiered to 3 levels. The site seemed to be popular with the tenters and around 50% is given over to tent pitches.
The loo/shower block is fair to good provided hot, free showers and was cleaned every day.
Liked the site for it's close proximity to Combe Martin. The centre of the town is about 4-5 minutes walk from the site.
There's very little sand on the small beach, more stones and pebbles. There's lots of large rock pools for the kids
