This is the first time we have been camping and how pleasantly surprised we were. The site was immaculately clean, the facilities were excellent. The toilets, shower blocks and facilities to wash up were excellent too. There was even a family bathroom with a bath in should you feel that a bath would be better for the younger children.
The staff on the site were more than helpful and the shop had everything you would need.
We would definitely recommend this to other families and will be re-visiting during the summer.

My husband and I stayed at the caravan Park during whit week. This site had being highly recommended to us by some friends.
It was out first time visiting the site and we have never being to a site with such a high standard. The site was very busy but due to the lay out of the site it felt spacious. The facilities were cleaned every day and checked on again at night to ensure they were tidy. I believe if you enjoy a site at its busiest, it'll be all the better at a quieter time.
Although we do not have young children there were plenty of activities for them with two play areas, crazy golf, football field and an indoor pool room.
The site is situated in an area with the most beautiful towns and villages.
We will also recommend this site and will most definitely booking again soon.

First time we have stayed here, my wife loves Helmsley and surrounding area so hence.
We arrived very late for us (21:30) and in the dark due to our car wanting to have some special AA attention on the way! We rang and explained but was assured that it wasn't a problem and to find info for us in shop window on arrival. Duly done we noted allocated space and directions to it and set up.
We were right next to the main children's park which suited us and the kids loved it. The zip line being especially popular. The shower block was always clean when I went and the showers hot, you can't ask more.
The shop was a bit of a gem with a very good selection from papers to cream cakes, tinned goods to toys and ornaments. The site is quite big and there is another playpark further over which looked like it was for smaller kids but we didn't go to it.
There is an overflow field which they use when really busy and we were offered this when we tried to book for the up coming bank holiday weekend but its locality didn't appeal, we are however booked to go later in the year.
The wardens all seemed very friendly and offered advice when asked.
As with a lot of sites now, I think prices are getting a bit high due to the popularity and the extra charges for kids, awnings etc just not justified. I think there should be a price per pitch but I'm sure others wouldn't agree.
Anyway, this is a great site and one we are going to return to.

We went to this campsite as a party of 5 mums and 16 children.
Th campsite had adequate facilities for us all.
There are two children's parks on site one that caters a bit more for younger childeren with traditional slides & swings, the other for older children with zip wires and climbing frames.
There were two toilet / shower facilities both were kept very clean and although a small queue for the showers on a morning this moved very quickly.
There is a large indoor washing up area with 3 sinks & laundry facilities too,and a shop on site.
The campsite was very clean and the children enjoyed themselves.
I would definitely recommend a visit to this site.

Just got back from weekend stay at Golden Square. Overall a good clean site in a good location. I do agree with the comments about tents being a bit too close to each other and was surprised at the large size of the site. I prefer a smaller more peaceful location even though I have two young children.
I don't agree with the comments about the toilets being dirty or the trees being overgrown. It was in good order with lots of planters and hanging baskets with flowers in them. Two good play grounds for the children with a good variety of play equipment.
Staff were good and friendly and the shop was very well stocked with everything you could want including fresh bread, nice fresh cakes, meat for BBQ, alcohol and bags of ice.

We stayed on the rally field(with EHU) which is just as you enter the site. It was close to two amenities blocks and also the shop. We stayed on the site with family and all in all had a lovely weekend. The weather in the main was gorgeous (however, after 4 years camping we still haven't put the tent down on a dry day!)
We always choose 5* sites and often choose Best of British sites as they never fail to impress us. This wasn't a B of B site, but we chose this site as it had a great awards list and the reviews were very reassuring, however we were not entirely happy with the site.
The site was very busy, but kept our children happy, especially our 11 yr old with the play areas and football field, etc. We were relieved to be put on the rally field as most other areas looked very crammed. However, we too felt a little crammed, which didn't matter too much as we were next to our family. However, people who were opposite us felt very close. We felt they could look directly into our tent, & we are sure they felt the same about us
The on site shop was well stocked, albeit small.
The washing up facilities were ok but the toilets and showers were not up to the high standard we normally expect from a 5* site. It was normally quite dark, esp in the toilet area and they weren't overly clean. We often saw loo roll, used plasters, empty bottles around, etc.
The showers and outside the shower doors were very wet. Obviously, when a site is full it is harder for it to stay perfect and it needs campers to be more respectful to other campers and the amenities. But, we do feel that the owners could have been more attentive in these areas.
The shower cubicles were not the best. It was difficult to keep your things dry and because the floor got so wet it was impossible to put jeans on without getting them very wet at the bottom, so wear shorts!
In the ladies there are no plug sockets to dry hair, but you can use their hairdrier for 20p.
We definitely felt that the site could have been tended to better, including the grass, shrubs and overgrown trees! But on the whole the sun always helps to paint a better picture. When it rained on the fri evening the sun dried the ground out quickly. We were able to have a nice bbq and the kids were happy. So job done!
The surrounding area was lovely. Helmsley was lovely-had a costcutter and co-op, but they were limited on choice of meat for bbq. As it was sunny we went to Scarborough for day, so we could get on the beach. It was nice and about an hours drive away.
Our sat nav told us there was a tesco in Thirsk but we didn't use it. On the whole don't be put off visiting this site. We had a great time but have visited much better sites with similar accreditations and reviews. I just wouldn't describe site as immaculate as has been in previous reviews. In our opinion. A good site, with average facilities.

Just spent our very first touring holiday at this site and I have to say if this is what caravanning is all about I'm ready to sign up. We had a brilliant time and I thought the site was very good. Toilets immaculately clean, although showers had to keep pressing button and definitely no underfloor heating, which was horrible as it was freezing in the shower blocks
Shop was well stocked had most things you needed
Great for dogs, good walks and out the sites main entrance turn left then immediate right there is lovely woods you can let them run riot
Nice flat pitches and great TV reception
We were actually on the rally field which is on the right as we entered the site. We found it brilliant, it's out the way, very quiet and close to toilets and shop. Great location
We also found sutton bank to be a place of outstanding beauty as well as the national park and visitors centre up there. Also Hemesly is a lovely place with great food and cafe and a few nice pubs and definitely worth a visit
All in all for my first time I really enjoyed this site, just the weather was awful, just typical of the UK, but the surroundings were amazing and just goes to show if you get the weather the UK is a most beautiful place
Would definitely book this site again

Just spend the late May bank holiday here, apart from the typical bank holiday weather it is a lovely site and will definitely re-visit.
Although there are a few things to moan about, and you will most definitely need rock pegs for your visit, we broke about 25 pegs.
The electric hook up is 16 amps, the site was full and we had no problems with it tripping out unlike some other sites.
The park is set in various levels, the tents being set out in the top tier there is no shelter so you are open to the elements, there has been some new trees planted around the edge so in a few years time it will be a bit better.
Toilets and showers were immaculate, plenty of hot water but you had to push the button to get them on and didn't stay on long, and they were not heated, no underfloor heating at any time during our visit and as the weather wasn't really nice could of done with it. The shop was well stocked and reasonably priced. The parks for the kids were a great hit and always busy, as was the football field.
The dog walk was one of the best with access to the nearby woods if you go over the style.
There is a games area, pool table and table tennis table. £5.00 deposit is requires as is the crazy golf.
Out and about, York is about 22 miles away, although the road is mostly a B road, we used the park and ride, (you can take the dog on) which was £2.30 each for adults and up to 2 kids free which was great as parking is not good in York.
Helmsley is a lovely little village with a co-op and cost cutter, fish and chips and plenty of pubs.
Although the site has advertised on the notice boards, fish and chips and pizza shops none of them delivered to the site which is not so convenient if the weather is bad and you've had a drink so bear this in mind.
All in all had a great stay and will re-visit but will ask for a different pitch so not so open.

We arrived on Friday evening and were shown to our pitch by a very friendly gentleman. As soon as the doors of the car opened the 2 boys (ages 9 & 13) disappeared not only to greet the friends we had arranged to meet up with here, but also the play park (including zip-wire) plus the football area (with goals) directly behind us. The kids had a fantastic stay here. There was also a free Falconry Display over the week-end which was just amazing, what a bonus.
The showers and toilets were lovely and warm, although my only gripe which is just a small one is that they were a bit of a distance in the middle of the night!
All in all it's a great site close to a very pretty, picturesque town of Helmsley along with it's castle (well worth a visit).
Very family friendly & will definitely go again.

Had a very pleasant last minute stay here.
We booked very last minute (around 11 am and arrived there at 4pm). Asked for a pitch near the bigger kids play area and we were placed directly opposite it which was great.
We took one of our son's friends and they both really enjoyed playing in both the play areas. The bigger play area was favourite with it's zip slide (strong enough for adults too!). I would say that even the older younger ones play area is not that suitable for really young ones. The two 8 year olds we were with loved both though.
Site is nicely organised, and although there are lots of pitches they are organised so that you don't feel crowded - although it wasn't that busy while we were there.
Staff were very friendly, we hired a tv cable for a £5 deposit and £1 a day charge. Keyfob for the entry gate is £10 deposit.
Only thing I found was that they only take cash or cheques in the shop! Lovely sausages, eggs and bacon available there. Shop was well stocked if a little pricey (£1.20 for a 500ml bottle of fizzy drink). There is a games room but we didn't use it and again £5 deposits for everything (which is understandable, but if you don't take much cash with you!).
The toilets were immaculate, but could probably do with an update as they are looking a bit dated. Don't know if I was using the shower wrong, but you had to push the button and turn it each time it went off - I was getting fed up with this by the time I'd finished.
Will be going back again.
