Just returned from an overnight stay at this fantastic site. Two pwople, one motorcycle and a two man tent. £17. 00 for the night, well worth it.
Very friendly staff, always on hand to help should you need it.
Great facilities, the site is very well maintained, nothing is missed.
The grass is kept short and clear of litter which makes for a relaxing experience all round.
Not many there whilst we were there but it's easy to imagine even when the site is full it's still a relaxing place to be.
The nearest village is 1. 5 miles to the right of the campsite.
Two pubs, each having their own style. We went into the White Horse where we were welcomed and in fact stayed most of the day chatting with the locals, what a great pub.
Very easy to recommend this site and we will certainly be going back

Just returned from Golden Square and have to say WOW.
The facilities are second to none
Toilet and shower block are excellent,
Plenty for the kids,
Site always kept spotless clean and whilst we were there the noise levels from 10pm were extremely low
Would we return ? Most definitely
Pitches large with plenty of space and generally level.
Well stocked shop,
Wildlife galore, birds and rabbits
Cant recommend it enough and great if you are National Trust or English Heritage members as loads of places to visit near by.

Very very clean camp site, which is very big. Price isn't too bad, however they do charge extra for a large tent, (5 berth or over)?
We stopped with non EHU on the high terrace. Ground was quite stony for the pegs. And was exposed on the top of a hill but the wind wasn't bad for us (just the rain lol)
Toilets/shower block are kept very clean, water temperature is perfect. The push button could do with a bit longer time to enjoy your shower. There is a fair distance to walk depending which end of the field you get.
4 basins (i think)in the washup facilities which are good and sheltered.
Play area's for children are very entertaining, there is also a good football pitch with nets. Plenty of dog walking areas.
Well stocked shop with various sweets/drinks/camping gear/locally produced bbq food, etc
Helsmey is a nice popular village that's within a few minutes drive. There was a sign to say they had a heated pool, which we'll be using next time.

We put our Caravan on this site for the season 2010.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The facilities are excellent and the toilet blocks are really very clean. Good play areas for children of all ages and one weekend there was a visit from a bird of prey centre. I feel that the 'play barn' may have been utilised better with some extra activities for the children.
The on site shop was well stocked and not overpriced. A lot of thought went into the setting up of this site and it is very well laid out for both tourers and tents. There is even a coin operated iron and a microwave for the tenters.
We love the Hemsley area and the closeness to York and Scarborough. Always plenty to do and places to go from here.
Good walking for the dogs and lots of rabbits for the dogs sport.
I would recommend this site to anyone with a family.

Booked this as a bit of a last minute 4 night holiday at the end of the school half-term and by the look of things we were lucky to get on the site and not in the overflow field. We booked for our tent, with hook-up (2 adults, 1 child) and my parents caravan and asked to be close together and the staff managed it with what looked like a very busy site.
The toilets were busy the first couple of days, 5-10minute wait for a shower Saturday morning, but kept spotlessly clean throughout our stay. Once everybody had gone home, on the Sunday night, I had the showers to myself, bliss!
The site had arranged for the local birds of prey centre to put on a falconry and owl display on the Saturday night, this is the thing that made our minds up to stay here & it was the right decision, my daughter, and all the other kids on the site, loved it.
Bad(ish) points:-
The check-in details that you're supposed to display in your tent / caravan window have your full home address on, doesn't take a genius to work out if you're camping there you're not at home. We didn't display ours but nothing was ever said.
The top play area for the children could do with a bit of basic maintenance, there was a few rusty nails showing on the zip wire.
On the pitch we had there was a smell of drains every now and then, I think this was from the motorhome waste point and was a bit off-putting during meal times.
Overall an enjoyable, relaxing few days. We loved it, my daughter loved it, my parents loved it and we'll probably be back next year.

Arrived to a friendly welcome and told where precisely to pitch up (Non-Electric).
The site is lovely. We pitched up on the bottom field where the small park is. This meant we could watch our 6yr old daughter play without her being out of our sight. The toilets and showers were immaculate and never full. Plenty of HOT water and family bathrooms if required.
The wash up room near us was always empty and clean - use of full laundry facilities too.
There is also a field for football and a larger park with a fab zip wire. The older children helped the younger ones.
There was a warden patrolling at 9pm but no problems there as everyone was playing by the rules near us.
Very nice site indeed-will return.

Excellent site with great facilities, ample showers(too hot), not a problem I have ever come across before and shows how good this place is if I can only add this as a fault.
The park is well sheltered and has a great little on site shop for anything you forgot to pack. Two great play areas for the kids, along with a large football field to run around.
Helmsley is only a short drive away, but if you turn right out of camp, then you will find all you need just two minutes down the road, pub, shop, chippy, post office and more.
This is a great site which will have the pleasure of my company before the summer is out.

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at this beautiful site.
The site is spotless. The scenery is spectacular. Shower and toilet facilities excellent. There were two play areas for children plus a football pitch. Shop was well stocked for emergencies and not badly priced. Staff were helpful when we wanted to upgrade to a super pitch (worth the extra money).
Pitch 4 lower level was excellent. Very spacious and next to a lovely walk in the woods.
Its only a short ride by car into Helmsley where there are some nice pubs and various eating places. Quaint shops etc.
A trip to nearby Northallerton was also good as Parking was easy and good selection of shops.
Staff allowed us a late check out @ 4pm which made the weekend seem just that little bit longer and less of a rush.A small fee of £2 for this.
I would certainly recommend this site and we will definitely be returning in the near future.

Camp is out of the way in a peaceful location, but handy for Helmsley - about 4 mile drive which has plenty of independent shops, pubs, restaurants and an excellent chippy, the east coast resorts of Scarborough and Whitby are about an hour's drive. Sutton Bank and the White Horse is a ten minute drive.
Very well managed - the owners are almost always on site, well stocked shop and very clean toilet and shower blocks. There are also two family bathrooms with a bath - £1 to use these.
There's also a microwave which could come in handy - 10p to use.
My first visit was in early April, there were just 2 tents in our field and only about 5 or 6 across the whole park. They do long term caravan storage, so whilst there were lots of caravans most of them were empty.
We were in the lower tent field (no EHU) which is sheltered and very close to the lower shower block. £14 a night.
Second visit was over Easter and it was a different place. I would say it was almost full, 60-70 tents in fields which didn't look like part of the campsite on our first visit. We were in the upper play area field which is further from the toilets and on top of the hill, but thankfully it wasn't windy. As it was a bank holiday the cost had increased to £22.50 a night.
I preferred the first visit - the park is too large for our liking - the showers were always very busy and there were 30-40 youths in the play areas until well after dark causing mischief, shouting, screaming and swearing. It took a few words from those nearby for them to disperse.
There were also lots of dogs. I have no problem with owners who know how to look after dogs, but there were fights between them, some did get loose, some weren't on leads and some barked incessantly. Some owners didn't clear up after their dogs, this despite there being a dedicated dog walking area and a waste bin.
One tip. If you do camp, purchase some proper rock pegs - the ground is full of large lumps of limestone which will wreck standard pegs very quickly.
In short - one to go to out of school holidays.

We have stopped on this pleasant site many times in the past finding it clean, tidy and well positioned for local shops, pubs etc. In Helmsley. The always busy play areas for the kids seem to quieten down at a decent time but now for the draw backs! Our visit this time, on the weekend of the royal wedding, was charged at a rate of £135 for four nights (EHU & including a charge of £12 for our two small dogs) this seemed to be the general consensus on site when talking to other campers- just too expensive, the shower blocks where dirty and in both ladies blocks lots of toilets didn't flush.
Large areas of the site are high and exposed acting like a wind tunnel hammering our tent night and day, the ground will only be penetrated by proper rock pegs, go prepared! In these times of trying to tighten the purse strings we will not be visiting again due to the very high costs.
