Stayed here bank holiday weekend with hubby, 2 kids & small dog. Booked last minute and we were amazed at the quality when we arrived. Toilet block so clean and showers hot and big enough to take kids in to share (and free when we went). Play area was great, we had pitch next to it, a bit noisy but no problem, nice to hear kids having so much fun. Shop fantastic, seemed to stock everything, even sorted us out with airbeds for the girls when we discovered our new camp bed were too big for the tent. Re booked the day we left to go back in 2 weeks and expect to be regular visitors over the summer

Visited this site last year. We were in a tent on the rally field {overflow} because the main site was full. We had 2 family sized tents and had plenty of space for our two cars. Two good parks for the kids which are well placed so that all the kids {&noise} are not playing in the same area. TV reception was superb! Showers were 'ok' and clean.
The site itself was a really nice site, very clean and well laid out. We now have a caravan and are booked up to go this May Day weekend, we have tried for a seasonal pitch but there is none available. This site is highly recomended by us!

Just had our first weekend away this season in our new tourer at Golden Square. This site is one of our favourite places. It is a well kept site with immaculate facilities. The shower blocks have both just been refurbished over the winter with now underfloor heating in the showers of which is great on a cold day of which it was when we were here! The showers are free and hot.
This site is located in a quiet part of the Hambleton hills just up the road from the famous Ampleforth college of which you- and you can use their indoor swimming pool for a small fee, but check first for availability. Golden Square is ideally located for many attractions nearby. The site has two play parks of which can be seen from all areas of the site. It has two toilet blocks and a shop that stocks loads of essential items - they also sell home made cakes & bread. So all in all a site well worth a visit.

Apprehensive as first real camping holiday with 3 children. Very busy site as arrived on Saturday and were pitched at lower field opposite small kids playpark (maybe because we had booked in advance). Good sized pitch and friendly atmosphere.
Campsite emptied on Sunday, but for a few pitches, which was much more enjoyable as Sat/Sun were very busy, but not too noisy or rowdy. Very well patrolled by warden/owner who locked up park etc at 11pm.(at weekend) Toilets good & clean and shop well stocked. lovely area & plenty to do. Good swimming pool nearby at College.(check times at shop) Will come back.

September 2005 Only my second time under canvas, but what a lovely site. Very clean and so picturesque. The showers were brilliant and our pitch, although away from the main hubbub suited us perfectly, no one too close; peaceful and the views from the top field were lovely. I would recommend this site our boys (13 and 14) loved it. We will return again. One word of warning - pack your bedsocks! After a fantastically sunny couple of days the nights were rather chilly! Never found the games room though!!

December 2005 I visited this site with my 6 year old daughter, the pitch I was given was to accomodate her as the park was directly opposite, the staff very friendly and location stunning. A great family site, definitely recommend a visit. Toilet Blocks kept clean at all times. Both childrens play areas safe and plenty to keep them occupied. Good shop facilities, easy to find location and very handy for towns such as Thirsk, Pickering or even a trip to Scarborough.

August 2005 Stayed on one of their fully serviced pitches which were ok although it looked as though most of them where occupied by permanent season vans, the site itself was generally clean and tidy with a shop for the basics, I would recommend this site for touring caravans but it did have 2 of my pet hates however! firstly token operated showers which are not on when you are paying £24 a night also the dog exercise area had no dog bins at all which does not encourage owners to pick up after their pets. The site was noisy with youngsters but that has to be expected in the summer holidays. All in all a nice enough site.

July 2005 We decided to go for one night as my husband was working the saturday, its a lovely clean site ,the childrens play areas are great, you are away from any noise by passing cars so its nice and quite. will definitely go back. Ther are plenty of toilet blocks and a well stocked shop on site. But we never found the games room.

August 2005 This site was recommended to us by a friend and we were glad they did. We went in our caravan and some friends joined us in their tent we were in the rally field. What we liked was the fact that you didn't feel hemmed in and that the site was on different levels, although I did feel that only 2 shower blocks for the whole site did mean you had a bit of a wait first thing on a morning.
The site did say they had a games room but as previous reviews have already stated we did feel this could have been improved slightly especially as the day we wanted to use it was dark and raining, we couldn't find the light switch so we asked at the shop and were told it was on a timer so we found it difficult to see well.
It was nice to see the park owner driving around early evening to check all was well, this was particularly welcome as our neighbours decided to get into a volume war with another tent to see who could get their music heard most and were asked to turn it down which they did.
I would recommend this site to others. We only stayed 2 nights but certainly enjoyed them and felt relaxed. Finally, just want to mention the shop, at first glance it didn't seem very big but on closer inspection was surprised to see what an extensive range they had especially the cream cakes, a MUST TRY experience, thank you to all at Golden Square for making our stay good.

August 2005 Just got back after 3 nights at this site, the kids enjoyed it, but not one of my favourites. We were put in the Rally Field, which seemed out on its own, but there seemed to be plenty of empty pitches on the main site. Looking at the way the pitches were set out on this field if it had been busy we would have all been like sardines in a can they looked so close, (this is one the Rally field). The shop opening times left a lot to be desired, and for a family of 5 I was only allowed 5 tokens for the showers in one go, seemed a bit strange. This would be a place that the kids would like to return to, but im not so sure.
