We stayed at Golden Square camp site and cant thank the owners & staff enough. We had booked another site only to find it fully booked when we arrived and the owner not interested yet alone apologetic. After numerous phone calls to other sites which were fully booked as it was bank holiday, Golden Square squeezed us in as an emergency. They could not have been more helpful and pleasant for the four day stay we had there.

It was a lovely site, our daughter loved the two play parks and made some nice friends. The shop was well stocked and the shower blocks very nice and clean. We will definitely go there again.

We had a lovely stay at Golden Square, We arrived on a Thursday afternoon and stayed till Tuesday morning. When I rang up to book I requested a grass pitch with EHU, in a quiet area of the park as we are a couple with no kids, and its the school holidays! As requested they came up with a brilliant pitch within the touring pitch area, section B, which was a dead end with 3 very spacious grass pitches.

The toilets/potwash & chemical disposal were about 2 minute walk from pitch. All were kept very clean and fresh. We found the workers on the site to be friendly and welcoming,

The owner drove around every evening to check up, we also had to display in the tent window our details on a piece of paper given to us at check in!

There's an ideal shop on site, selling everything from carling, cream cakes, tent pegs, papers and food! When we booked they took our car reg number, the barrier at the entrance automatically opened up every time for us, which made the park feel very secure.

There were 2 play park areas for the kids including the zipwire, the site was very busy during our stay with people coming and going all the time. The site is spread out on separate levels and pitches looked generous.

There was also a warden patrolling on a evening and the site really did quieten down after 11pm. The site was 3 miles from Helmsley which has a co-op, pubs, cash point, chippy and best of all Helmsley spice, and Indian restaurant, we found the food to be the best we have ever had! really worth a visit.

We had a great time and cant wait to return, thanks Golden Square, we will be back!

Went to this site at the end of July into august, with friends their 2 kids and our 2 kids.

We all loved it here. When we booked we asked by email if we could be placed together and near the park, we received an email back the following day saying they would do their best as long as weather permitted.

When we arrived the staff at reception/shop(which was well stocked) where very friendly and helpful and they had placed us together near the park like we asked, where we could see the kids at all times.

The park was brill the kids loved it and there was a sign to say when you could go on the park and when to leave, which the kids and parents kept to.

The site has a small cabin that has leaflets of all the attractions and places to visit around Yorkshire which gave us a chance to plan where to go.

The toilet/shower block was big and kept clean, hot and was free, there is a dish washing area which was covered and had lots of hot water.

We would return here again, the only thing id recommend you take a torch to go to the toilet at night there is some lighting nearer the toilets.

Just returned from a brilliant 3 day break at Golden Square. I can't recommend this campsite enough and especially if you have children.

We booked well in advance and gave our reg plate details which automatically operate on the entrance to the site for the barrier. The check in process was very simple and quick and we were shown to our pitches/offered a couple of pitches which were easy to find and pretty big.

Our pitches were easy enough to peg out on but did find some rocks but not that many. We went on a Wednesday and it was fairly busy but by Friday the place looked almost full but you still didn't feel like anyone was invading your pitch.

We got camped in the top field, close enough to the playground so the kids were never out of sight but very safe to play and go on there own. They absolutely loved it there and spend loads of time on the slide, the zipwire and climbing frame.

Everything was in full working order and had times that it was open and closed so not to disturb anyone too early or late. There is also mini golf for 30p and a play barn with a pool table, ping pong table and various kids scooters/plastic ride on toys.

The facilities on site are very good, some of the best that we have experienced. The washing up were all indoors with about 3 or 4 sinks with plenty of hot water, the toilets were always clean and the showers were always available and again hot running water, if possible too warm in the family room.

I'd struggle to pick fault with anything on site as the shop is also reasonably well priced with all the essentials that you need. We noticed on Friday night that a warden had a walk around the site a couple of times and everyone seemed to ensure that by 11 ish the noise was down and lights started to go out.

We will definitely visit again as the site cattered for all our needs - good pitches, plenty for the kids to do, well maintained facilities and in a great location only 3/4 mins drive into Helmsley which is beautiful - 2 or 3 really good pubs, an outdoor pool, playground and some really good looking pasty shops and restaurants.

The market on a friday is good and we found the Hambleton Inn, near Sutton Bank and the Plough Inn in Wombleton both being very very good for lunch and proper pub grub and ales.

This was our third visit here, but haven't been for 2 seasons. Still as nice and we had large pitch next to one of the play areas. This suited us as we had our 2 grandchildren with us.

They love this site, the zipwire being their favourite. Sadly this broke during our visit, ( I heard a few children were using it at the same time, ) but, as soon as the owner realised, it was fixed within about 30 minutes, much to the children's delight.

The only negative comment was the charge of £2 a night for a porch on our tent. We have never been charged for this anywhere else, as, we still fit on the pitch quite easily.

Good clean facilities, well stocked shop and well kept site

This site has good toilet/shower facilities although the hot water is a bit slow coming out of the showers, and the plot for each tent/caravan etc was good.

The on site shop is also great. It is a large site and so because of the number of people it can hold it was noisy. So if its peace and relaxation you want don't go here.

Unfortunately we had a plot right next to the playground which was great for our young children through the day but on a night older kids congregate and it can be very loud and no chance of an early night or getting our own kids to sleep. Fortunately the security guard is round at half ten and then eleven chasing them away but this was a bit late for us.

We did go on a bank holiday and so the site was probably as full as it will get all year so other weeks might be a bit quieter.

Facilities- toilet block was always clean, plenty of warm water. only criticism would be the site needs more than two, if on the top fields it can be a long trek with washing pots etc. on an evening, depending where you're pitched, there is not much light so you need to take a torch for the upper fields, which must be the windiest place we have ever pitched a tent. No shelter too open, think the owners should look at planting trees.

When you book over the phone ask to be on the A section, it was far more sheltered and you would at least have a view!

Reception staff- found to be very abrupt not very helpful.

For location I would return and now know which pitches are the best.

Shop- very well stocked shop with good opening times.

Site location- one of the only reasons I would return is it is very convenient for beautiful sight seeing, all round a good base to be for north York moors.

Helmsley is really beautiful great shops has a small co op and a cost cuter.

Was recommended this site and have to say it is a fabulous site with excellent clean facilities. From checking in until we left the staff here give 100% and all worked hard and were friendly.

We were given a great level pitch no 32 with plenty of space. There were only 2 of us and they seemed to have couples only in that area which was nice not sure if this was deliberate.

There is a shop which sold all the basic needs. The toilet block which we were near was by the reception and was kept spotlessly clean with a cloth in the cubicles and mop and bucket by the showers which were big with room to change in.

There is a play area for children and small golf area.

It is a big site but you didn't feel it was overcrowded or noisy. The washing up facilities are undercover and never had to queue seemed to be plenty of sinks.

The area is great for local walks and for Helmsley with the walled gardens and castle only 10minutes drive away.

We spent 2 nights at the campsite, it has good and bad points.

Good- lovely well looked after grounds, 2 lovely parks for the kids, very clean toilets and showers, friendly helpful staff.

Bad- we were put in an overflow field which hardly had any electric hook ups, we were put that far from the hookup our cable wouldn't reach, they expected us to pay £50 deposit and £1 per night to hire an extension.

Site is very tight for people with caravans, we found ourselves in a couple of tricky situations on the single width roads.

Chemical disposal was rather far away and only one set of bins.

We had a lovely stay here though

Have just returned home after spending three nights at this site. The staff are friendly and were able to give us great pointers in areas to visit. The toilets were clean and the only complaint on this front is the fact that the showers operated on a push button system which only lasted thirty seconds at most, hot water is bountiful though. The pitch we were given was close to the reception area and good electric hook up. The only criticism that I would have against this site is the fact that on arrival my husband and I were asked if we had children or a pet with us. We were then given a pitch in between two tents, both of whom had very young children who around 7 pm at night both screamed due to being tired/hot and this last well into the night. It may be a better idea given the size of the site and the layout if an area was set aside for couples/older families in a quieter area of the site.
