Very good site, excellent for families as plenty of facilities for children including two playgrounds, football pitch (with nets) and a mini golf course.
Only fault was nearest pub about 2 miles away but if you bring your own food and drink it is an ideal place.
All amenities were clean and adequate.
Would definitely re-visit and try out the local villages next time.

We didn't intend to stay on this campsite - we'd been let down by another one, saw this signposted and thought we'd pop in on the off chance we might be able to get us in. Luckily, they managed to get us a pitch which someone had vacated early, and were very nice and understanding when we explained our predicament.
We couldn't fault this campsite at all. It's a huge site, and I think luckily we got put in the quietest corner, there were a few kids around but they were good as gold. The pitches are a good size and there are a couple of toilet blocks. We just used the nearest one, and there were no complaints at all. They were clean, spacious and the showers were free. Unusually, they also had baths - which were charged at a £1, which we thought was fair enough. There were also washing up and laundry facilities available.
There was a fair amount of wildlife on the site, particularly in our quiet corner - we had a very friendly rabbit kept hopping around our tent, we even had to chase it away from our disposable BBQ because it would have burnt its nose! The birds and owls were pretty noisy at night but you just get used to it.
We didn't need anything from the shop but we did have a look around as we checked in and it was very well-stocked. Pretty much anything you'd forgotten was available in there. You could also purchase booklets on local walks etc.
Overall, really pleased with this campsite. The staff are pleasant and accommodating, the site is spacious and looks after everyone (facilities for family, quieter areas for non-families), the price was good and the facilities were excellent too. The location is fantastic, dependent on what you're after - lots of abbeys, castles and museums, and the seaside and City of York aren't too far away. Would definitely recommend this site to people looking to explore the area.

Well i'll start with the good points!
- When we arrived the welcome we received was excellent and we were directed to our pitch quickly.
- The kiddies play areas were fantastic and very well used by my two children. In fact, I can't fault the children's facilities at all.
Now onto the less good points.
- This was the noisest park I have ever stayed on. I'm not talking about during the day but past 10pm it seemed to get louder in some areas of the park. Adults should know better than shouting at that time of night when there are young children around trying to sleep. When this was mentioned to a member of staff in the morning (and I wasn't the only one) it was pointed out that there was no actual 'curfew' time and it was simply down to individuals.
- The toilet blocks were ok, but certainly not upto the standard I've seen. They were cleaned at lunchtime each day and that is it. Very often in the morning the floors were dirty and I definitely advise crocs/sandles for the showers as they were in the same block as the toilets, one of which overflowed the day after we arrived.
- You can only leave the park by scanning a token by the exit gate. However, this is handed in before you leave to go home and if this happens to be lunchtime (you have to leave by 12) when the toilets are being cleaned, there isn't anybody around to let you out. We (and the 4 cards behind us) instead relied on a very kind camper to let us out with her token whilst she was returning to the park.
- It can get quite windy (ok, very windy) in the middle and top terrace field. Ask for a pitch in the lower field if possible.
However, the shop is well stocked!

Very nice campsite in a lovely quiet location. Two good playground and lots of great walks nearby, which was perfect for us as we were on a walking holiday. There are two toilet blocks, but inconveniently we were quite far away from both of them.
It is close the the lovely town of Helmsley, and the very picturesque village of Gilling. We found the nearest supermarket to be in Thirsk, 12 miles away.

This is an absolutely brilliant site. Very large but you wouldn't know it unless you walked around as areas were closed off into smaller sites. It was our first ever camping trip, so didn't know what to expect. Great start with the staff who were absolutely fab on arrival, very friendly and helpful, even moving us to face the older children play area when they realised we had our son with us.
Shop sold absolutely everything, and was open long hours. The site was kept spotlessy clean, grass cutting both days we were there. Lots of water and waste points. Play areas were excellent, also a small indoor play area and mini putting green. Toilets and showers were immaculate, even though the site looked pretty full there was never a queue. Showers there were free. Family bathroom was superb , large with bath, shower and baby changing. £1 for hot water, but that almost filled the bath. Well worth the money.
Our springer loved it here. Huge field where dogs could have a good run, also lots of woodland so they could have a good nose. Wardens were very pleasant and very fair, closing the play area at dusk and reminding people to keep the noise down. Ideal site where my little boy was completely entertained without having to spend a fortune on tacky giftshops and slot machines! I would highly recommend this site to anyone.First class!

We visited this site for 2 nights in July. It was only our second outing with our caravan and I was still very nervous about reversing it into position. After many attempts to get it in the right position the owner arrived and gave us instructions and we parked it perfectly (although I was a bit dubious when he told me to aim for the wife!). The site was very well kept and clean. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The shop was well stocked with a variety of goods. Although it was a large site we had plenty of privacy, peace and quiet and a great view. Any children on the site were well catered for with a football field and play area. We liked the large dog walking field.

We have been looking for a site we can go back to time and time again which is handy enough from our Teesside location to enable us to go for last minute weekends and such like; I think we have found it.
Really couldn't find fault. We arrived at a very busy time on the friday evening but there was someone on hand directing events and within a couple of minutes had been allocated our pitch.
We were on an electric pitch just near the amenities and it was a fair size pitch- close enough to be sociable to neighbours but not on top of each other.
There were 2 great playgrounds for the kids, one at each end of the site and, although a bit muddy in the wet, they are invaluable in keeping the kids happy.
I have to admit we are very fussy when it comes to showers and toilets; no problems here though- there were plenty of showers that were nicely tiled and mops were available to clean up after self. Also 2 family bathrooms which were again a good size and clean. There was a £1 charge for the hot water in the bath though.
Didn't really explore local area this time but know from experience that nearby Helmsley is a terrific place to spend a quiet afternoon.
As was previously mentioned, the shop seemed to have everything, another big plus as it literally means you can throw the basic gear in your car and turn up at Golden Square where you can get the rest of the essentials. Will definitely be back as, at £34 for 2 nights for electric pitch for 2 adults and 2 kids, it is great value.

This is a really fantastic setting absolutely brilliant for kids. There are two playparks - one for the older kids, and a smaller one for the younger ones; plus a crazy golf - they ask for £5 deposit per club and 30p per person. On return of the clubs and balls, you get your deposit back.
The facilities are second to none. We never used the family bathroom, but it was very popular. There are a 6 shower cubicles which helps if there's a queue, a wash room for those who just want a strip wash, and hairdryers - although you need tokens for these from the shop.
The shop is excellent. You could pretty much turn up with no food and get everything you need from there. They sell anything you can think of eg water, cigarettes, alcohol, bbq meat, dairy products, camping equipment, sweets, papers etc. I felt like we were in their all the time, and it's very popular.
The owners are very welcoming and friendly. At night the playpark is locked, and the owner goes around asking people to be quiet. Unfortunately for us. We were sandwiched inbetween the most noisiest people who stayed up until the very early hours drinking and shouting so it spoilt it for us, but the site itself is brilliant.
We paid £34 for 2 nights for our tent and took our dog. There is a dog walking field and a football field. The town of Helmsley, which is beautiful has a co-op and cost cutter. Also a fish and chips, but we never ate there.
On the whole a brilliant site, but can be noisy in the evenings.

Had a lovely 6 night stay at this site, it's very clean and plenty of hot showers. The only downfall was the hard ground so do take plenty of rock pegs.
Helmsley is nearby which has a selection of pubs and shops including a costcutter and co-op for any essentials.
Would definitely return to this site and would recommend it to friends and family.

Second time we’ve stay at Golden Square and really can’t fault this site. The kids play areas are fantastic and the views are stunning. Shop as all ways is well stocked if a little over priced. The toilet and showers were all ways clean! Another the duration of the actual shower itself could be longer but not a real problem. All in all would recommend and return any time.
