August 2004 We really enjoyed this site...... was our first camping trip and we originally planned to stay 3 days... however we left after 2.... not because of the campsite or anything to do with it.... but because of the weather... I guess no one can control that! The site was well laid out... playpark for kids excellent... was hard to get my son to come back to the tent! We will definately be coming back to this site... one comment.... all facilities were excellent... but lighting very sparse... and as mist came down heavy at night it was real hard to see even with torches.

August 2004 We think this is a very good site and would definitely go back. Our family (Mam, Dad & 3 kids plus tent) spent a weekend at the Golden Square (Friday evening, Saturday & Sunday) and found it well equipped and sensibly organised with clean facilities close at hand. There were 2 children’s play parks, which our children really enjoyed and above all it was quiet, with no noise at all after 11.pm.
I know some people frown on paying for facilities, but 20p doesn’t seem bad and I found that there was enough time to get a shower; then again I’m a bloke. My wife tells me that one 20p token was enough to shower and wash & condition hair and do all the usual things that ensure there’s always a queue for the ladies showers. Also for another 20p token there was a “proper” hairdryer too (apparently). Overall facilities very good and clean.
We were pitched in field at the top of a hill, which afforded lovely views over the North Yorkshire moors for miles on a clear day or night. We could see both the parks and the kids had a ball coming back absolutely covered in sand/mud but loved it nonetheless. The only slight problem we had was that access to the field was up a steep road, which was very rough. After rain on the Saturday our car got stuck coming up this and couldn’t make it onto the field – many thanks to all those who helped push us up the hill! This won’t stop us coming back, but might make me buy a 4-wheel drive next year! Great, quiet family site: would thoroughly recommend it.

early August 2004 This is a really nice site.
Deceptive in size, you get the impression you are only on a small site as the different areas/terraces mean you only see a certain section when looking out. From our pitch there were stunning views of the moors. Separate tent field but tents also in with caravans, presumably for EHU.
Toilet facilities superb, 20p for a shower token but well worth it. Our only gripe was that the facilities were a good walk from the van. This was maybe a reason to put us off going again. Its a long way with a full Thetford cassette.
Little touches were good, water taps at just the right height for aquaroll.
The weather was fantastic enjoyed a walk to Ampleforth accoss country Warning: Local Pub shuts at 3 until 6 doh!
Well stocked shop and kiddies play area and games room with Table tennis and pool (8 ball not swimming!)
I would recommend Golden Square...but don't get to far from the loos. Paul

August 2004 Booked only 4 days prior to arrival and Barbara was very helpful. Managed to get us a pitch with electric hook up near to the children's play area. Excellent toilet facilities, washing up area and well stocked shop. Very good weekend and the weather was lovely. Would definitely visit again and would highly recommend, especially to families.

July 2004 This site was perfect. We spent 4 nights here in July 2004. When we arrived the lady asked at reception how old our children were and gave us a pitch near the playpark suited for smaller children. The pitches are laid out in a line either side of the park and there is a big area in the middle where the children can play football and cycle. The toliets were clean with a really handy stool so my daughter could reach the sink to wash her hands by herself and the 20p token for the shower guaranteed a nice hot shower. The dishwashing faclities were undercover and the water was always piping hot and the washing machine and tumble dryers were cheap to use. The shop had all the usual site shop stock and the prices weren't to scandless. The site owner checked the site in his jeep and the kids playparks were closed when it came down dark, but when we were there our fellow campers all went along with this with no noise after the children were sleeping. All in all we felt this was a very safe site with a good family feel and hope to be returning soon. We have been camping for 4 years now and think this is the best one we have stayed at.

July 2004 Just stayed at this site for 3 nights - 2 adults and 2 children. Our pitch was right next to the lower park which was ideal for us as we have a 4.5 year old who just about lived in the park.
The only complaint we have is that the ground in the park was sand and once there was a little bit of rain all the kids clothes and shoes were covered in wet sand and that obviously was then trailed into the tent.
It would be much better if they laid bark chipping down - but until then I would take wellies for all the kids just in case of rain!

May 04 We visited this site for 4 nights. The Site as you approach looks very nice. It has a well stocked shop where you can buy a good range of groceries and gifts. I found that the site does not have adequate shower facilities. If you dont mind standing for 30/40 mins on a morning and evening for a shower then its ok, but that for me having 2 children was not good at all. The site is obviously quite big and I think they need more shower/toilet facilities. We were pitched right next to the childrens play area and to be honest I'd have rather been just a few mins away from the play area. All day long we got the children running between the camper and car and we had the noise of the zip line going till gone 10pm. The site is in an old quarry so pegs will not go into the ground. We broke/damaged half of our pegs, some wouldnt even go in and the ones that did go in only went in a few inches (good job it wasnt windy lol). We may have enjoyed it more if we weren't right on top of the play area. we deffinately wont be going there again.

June 2004 Visited this site originaly booked 7 nights stayed 8 AA1 site AA1 for children. Really friendly proprietors "greengrass" as we fondley named him, turfed children off playground at dusk - thankyou. Sadly we did not see loo of year, this site is missing a shower, loo facility either shower b4 7.30am or after 10pm which you are on a break so you want to chill. Will definatly go back though these are minor winges.

June 2004 Our first experience of family camping with two children under 5. Despite the drizzle when we arrived, we safely managed to pitch the tent. The children were thrilled as we were right next to the playground.
The facilities were excellent and staff were always pleasant. Likely to return here again in the future.

June 2004 Just returned from a weekend at this site and cannot recommend it enough. Despite a mix up with pitches initially opted to camp in upper field near the sheep (which the kids loved!). Plenty of room for the kids to run around safely in. Well stocked shop and immaculate facilities. Only downside is the lack of club house, but it works well without one!.
