Stayed on park for second time this year. This time stayed in the new superpitches and due to the lovely august weather we have had pleased we did.F ound the staff to be very helpful. Site was lovely and tidy. We are now trying to get a seasonal pitch for next year. But have been told the waiting list is huge. Not much on the site but my 6 year old daughter is very easy to please, put a play park in front of her and shes happy. If you want loud music pubs and 20 cans dont go. If you want a bit of relaxation in wonderful surroundings this is the place to be. Not that im saying you cant drink 20 cans but its no noise after dusk and everyone seemed to abide to that. All in all a wonderful site and we all loved it

We have just spent the bank holiday at Golden Square and were very impressed. We had a pitch near the little childrens play area so could watch our little ones from the tent. The field was sodden when we arrived and didnt improve much but the field was still driveable just a little slippy. The facilities were excellent and the private baths were a godsend for two muddy toddlers. If you are after a quiet site this probably isnt for you as lots of children and a big site but very friendly and helpful. We had read the reviews prior to going and took rock pegs and found this a big help when pitching.
We spent the day in Dalby forest near Pickering and for walking/biking is fantastic

Just returned from my first ever camping trip and would give this site many more plusses than minuses.
On the plus side, the lady on reception was lovely: helpful, friendly and made a fuss of my little girl straight away.
The 24 hour facilities on site are excellent: the toilets, pot washing, laundry and family bathroom were all immaculate (the £1 for a 'private' bath was well worth it). There's a little wooden hut at the entrance with tourist information and a microwave in there and two children's playgrounds which are good too, though be prepared to wash the little ones when they return to tent as they're both on a sand surface and in damp / wet weather the sand gets everywhere. There were dozens of kids covered in it when we were there.
The shop stocks all you need really: newspapers, eggs, meat, milk, sweets and has an ice freezing fridge at 25p per pack.
I liked the security on site; its pretty much out of the way and there's a security barrier which at night you could only gain entry by token (£10 deposit required)and which was locked altogether at 11.30pm.
The 10.30pm 'lights out/no noise' curfew was pretty much adhered to and Don (the boss) could be heard doing his rounds every night at least once.
As for the area; Helmsley is just under 3 mile away straight up the A170 and is a lovely little place though there is nothing open bar the co-op after 9pm. The site is also nicely positioned for trips to Pickering, Thirsk, Whitby and Scarborough.
Minuses: We were put in the overflow field and were told it was probably better as being high up the drainage would be quicker. It had rained all week but on the day of arrival had been sunny. But as we drove past the ground level tents we soon saw it was a quagmire in many places.
Once at the overflow field we pitched high up where the other new arrivals seemed to go but the ground was still sodden, then on Saturday night it rained for 6 hours non stop and when we woke up and stood in the living room area we were squelching underfoot.I assume most other campers suffered a similar fate as we decided to cut short our break by a day and as we dismantled the tent it soon became apparent everyone else was - from 30/40 tents Saturday evening there were 5 left in that field by the time we set off home. Oh - and its been said here to take rockpegs, we found the ground up there fine and no need to go out and buy rockpegs.
On the whole, in decent weather I would say Golden Square is a lovely site and I will definitely be returning.

As a reluctant first time camper (only going to keep kids & hubby happy), this was the first camp site we visited, and what a joy - gave me confidence to go camping again.
It was a bank holiday weekend, so in the overflow field but still not too far from one of the toilet/showerblocks - which was clean. Could also keep an eye on the kids at one of the play parks - which they loved.
Has a shop which was well stocked, and could get your tokens for the hairdryers there.
Only a short drive from Helmsley which is a lovely market town to visit.
Would def. Recommend this site.

We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed it. We were pitched opposite one of the 2 playparks which was handy for our 6 yr old - we could keep an eye on her from the tent. She had a great time - there was plenty of room to play games and made friends (she's normally too shy).
Good toilet and shower facilities - very clean and didn't have to queue. Decent shop and an information hut, which also had a microwave - unfortunately we only found this out when we were leaving.
There is a large dog walking field, and some nice walks starting from the corner of the field. There's plenty of walks from the campsite - you can buy a pack of 8 walks from the shop.
The only minor problem we found was the ground - it's very rocky and we lost several pegs. Other than that it was a lovely friendly site, great for families and would go back again.

Lovely friendly site. Good playground, games room and spaces for kids, my daughter made lots of friends. Clean showers and toilets. There was even a microwave in a little hut so I could heat my baby's bottle without having to boil milk over a gas stove!
Short drive into Helmsley to some lovely pubs and quaint shops. Will return again.

Went to this campsite at the start of the school summer holidays, this campsite had everything it says on their advertisement on UKCampsite. The toilet block was immaculately clean plenty of showers and toilets and hot water, dog walking area was great to. Kids playground was good not a lot for a older child to do unless you take your own things with you. Shops you could use where in Hemsley which at times was hard to find especially if you are given the wrong directions, camp shop was ok but I never used it just had a quick look in. Went for a drive and a walk found the White Horse, which was near a gliding school when you are walking and the gliders are been pulled up above your head is breath taking. Would definitely go back to this campsite next year.

Booked as a last minute getaway. People who run the camp very helpful and friendly. Campsite is spotless. They have two playgrounds and they put us near the playground for younger kids(pitch no 84) we had a fantastic time our daughter made lots of new friends( she is normally quite shy) its geared towards families and by the end of our stay we had all played rounders (at least 8 tents taking part!) and those who didnt sat around drinking wine. Perfect. The campsite is on an old quarry so if it does rain it drains very quick, they have a games room (pool table , table tennis etc) you can hire bikes and some great walks near by. A great site .

Just come back from a fab few days at this wonderful site. Booked 3 days before we went and were told we would be on rally site, so was unsure where we would end up! We were pleasantly surprised to find the rally field was the best place for us to be! We were on plot 31, with loads of privacy, slightly raised and at the further end toward where the statics were. It was so peaceful, still within view of 1 of the children's 2 parks. A very well stocked shop open from 9am -7pm with an excellent selection of wine. Helmsley was only 3 miles away, with a costcutter and several smaller shops. There is a large Tesco at Thirsk (abt 13 miles away). Be aware of Sutton Bank which was the main road into the area. A 25% gradient windy road, which we struggled up in 2nd gear. A different longer route is advised for caravans or trailers. 6 washing up sinks, lovely toilet / shower block, with combining sink and toilet cubicles ideal with children. Water points are dotted all over the park, but only one refuse collection point which was overfull most of the time, but didnt smell. There was an ironing room with microwave in and tourist information. £10 deposit needed for barrier. Will definitely be going back to this lovely site, unfortunately they are fully booked for when we would like to go back, but will keep trying.

A lovely site. Well kept site with very clean shower/toilet block. Didnt use the family room which had a bath but friends did and said £1 for a bath was ok as lots of water. Showers were always warm and clean. When we arrived the site was fairly quiet, but once schools broke up was very busy. It was a large site but we felt hemmed in. We were with another family and were not allowed to have our awnings facing each other (although we were next to each other) due to fire risk, which was faintly ridiculous as the caravan next door was so close we could barely squeeze our car in! Was a bit noisy in the morning, were woken at 6.00am by kids playing outside.
However I would go back to the site as it is in a fantasic position, one of the cleanest I have been to and the kids loved the two play grounds. I would recommend the site to anyone!
