Very pleased with our choice with this site. Lovely area and the site is well laid out and not too cramped. We visited the last weekend of half -term and whilst there were more people there than the previous visit 2 weeks earlier, it didn't feel crowded. The play areas are excellent and well used. The shop is very good too. Shower and toilet block was immaculate and lots of room in the cubicles. Cant recommend it highly enough!

Just returned from a short stay at Golden Square and really liked the site. Reception helpful and friendly. The little shop sold all sorts: food, drinks, beer, wine and loads of things to keep the kids occupied. We had a hardstanding pitch which was a bit on the small size. The whole site was clean, tidy and well kept. Quite a lot of seasonal pitches and the people on them were friendly.
The Faucenberg Arms in nearby Coxwold is Dog friendly, we enjoyed a nice meal there and the dog was welcome too.
We had Fish and Chips from Ampleforth Fish Shop and I have to say they were the worst Fish and chips I have ever eaten.
We would definitely return to Golden Square

This is the second time we have used this site and I can't fault it, kids enjoyed the play area and the dog walk is very good. Toilets and showers where always clean never had to queue once. The local area is very lovely and the view from the campsite are very stunning. I would definitely use this campsite again, I will recommend this campsite to all of my friends.

We have been to this site many times as this is one of the best sites we have ever visited. Don & Barbara the owners and all their staff are really friendly and helpful and courteous and always happy to chat. The facilities are first class and clean, with hot free showers with underfloor heating and never full even on a bank holiday weekend. This site is so central to lots of places.
We cant get enough of this site and cant recommend it enough to anyone.

We just got back from our first stay at this wonderful site. Initially we were concerned that the site had still had vacancies the day before a bank holiday weekend was starting (normally a sign of a poor site that nobody likes to go on) am glad to say we couldn't have been more wrong.
Upon arrival we found staff to be polite and helpful. We were given directions to our pitch (C15) and off we went. The ONLY downfall we found was that there was no prior advice given by the site when we rung to book to tell us we'd need rock pegs. Pitching took almost an hour and I think we bent every peg we own. I found this frustrating as had we been warned I would have come prepared, anyway, tent up everything was great.
Toilets were fantastically clean, always empty whenever I went in, no wait for one to come free. Shop was well stocked and generally the site was maintained to a very high standard.
I've stayed on LOTS of sites but as an overall rating this is up there with the best of them. The no noise after dark rule was kept to by everyone which meant a very relaxing stay for everyone. Playgrounds were a godsend and our 9yrs old boy was only at our tent for mealtimes and bedtime, he was in view so we felt relaxed and he got the freedom he seemed to relish.
I've found in the past that a site can have the best facilities in the world but is only truly good if the people that go there make it so, it only takes a few 'rogues' to spoil the atmosphere for everyone (including the site owners) I've got to say that this site is spot on. We will be going again (with rock pegs in hand)
Take time to pitch your tent securely, top field is very open to elements and boy is that wind 'fresh' we did see one tent with a snapped pole as we were taking our tent down. That could have been due to bad pitching though ? ? It is windy though. Sunday evening was glorious sunshine clear skies, early hours Monday morning was rain and more rain, then a bit more. Ground coped quite well and didn't become water logged (probably due to all those rocks underneath the grass)
All in all a superb site in a truly stunning part of the country, very wild and feels really 'away from everything'
Can't wait to go again !

We stayed at this site at Easter for a week. The site is very well set out and caters for everything that you need during your stay. The toilet facilities are very good and are always clean, the showers are free and the water was always nice and hot too! The shop provides basic goods but it's not far to travel to the supermarket for supplies. Site is ideally situated for exploring the North Yorkshire area. This is quite a large site but still feels nice and quiet as it is well spread out and there wasn't a feeling of being overcrowded.
We were very impressed and will definitely be returning, hopefully with the tent as the facilities are great and the camping area looks pretty good too.

We really liked this site. The pitch we had was more than adequate for our two small tents and we were right by the shower block which was great once we worked out where to park the car to deflect the light during the night. It was a stony pitch which meant we had to move one tent about.
The shower block was clean and the washing up area well kept.
It was very convenient for some beautiful places nearby. There were two play areas which my son enjoyed.
The neighbours were a couple who returned year after year which is a good advertisement.
We would definitely go again when visiting this part of Yorkshire.

We visited this site for the third time as kids are safe and really enjoy the play parks,we came the week leading up to the bank holiday weekend and we were on the overflow field at our request as the kids can run about with there games. The site is lovely and the staff are really helpful the toilets and bathrooms are clean the shop is well stocked. We were not so lucky with the weather this year and it was quite muddy but it did not stop us enjoying our visit. We have five children ages 11,9,9,8,8 and we came with friends and were next to each other. We will definitely visit the site again as it is also a good base for trips out. There is a lovely pub in helmsly, reasonably priced and the portions are more than enough even for the kids. There was only 3 tents max on the whole field but on the last night it really filled up and livened up a lot, it was a bit noisy from one particular tent but it was not enough to stop us having a great time

We have just returned from a 3 night stay.
Lovely, scenic site with good facilities.
We stayed on the overflow field. Which is very steep and requires rock pegs. There is no order to this field. We went out in the morning and arrived back at tea time to find the field jam packed and a very cautious tricky route had to be found back to out tent.
We were joined by friends and so pitched our day tent between us (no crossing guys) and were reprimanded !. However a large group with several tents were allowed to cross guys and allow their children to play on the park at 6am !
I did mention these issues on departure
The shower blocks look fantastic and are free, however they don't seem to drain correctly, so you flood your showering neighbour !

Very popular & well set up site not far from Helmsley. This was our 2nd visit. We've stayed on the rally field both times as need large electric tent pitch but it can be quite windy as not sheltered. Very good facilities. Well stocked shop selling gifts/food/newspapers & mags plus more. Large toilet block with decent, hot showers (about 5 or 6) that are clean & big enough to get dry without getting clothes/shoes wet, handy private cubicles with sinks & numerous toilets. Very handy for parents with young families - a free family bathroom with baby changing unit, large bath, toilet & shower. Downside is it gets very busy & there's always a queue. Once in the bathroom I got rather flustered to get out asap (which can be tricky with 2 young kids)as those outside rattled the door handle & found it quite stressful (& rude). Good undercover dishwashing facilities. Handy tourist info hut opposite shop. There are x2 excellent play areas, crazy golf (on the ropey side) & a football field. Tents on non electric tent field next to top play area is very open & looked like they were struggling as extremely windy. Will definitely return to this site.
