Just spent a May bank holiday at this site, apart from the typical bank holiday weather, rain and a very very cold wind, there was nothing to complain about this site, clean and tidy, toilet and shower blocks are clean and modern, spacious showers with under floor heating.
Two play areas for the children and as a bonus being a bank holiday a bird of prey show was put on by the site owners. I would recommend this site to any one whether they would be staying in a tent or caravan. If staying in a tent I would seriously recommend rock pegs as the ground is very rocky underneath and normal pegs havent got a chance.
Trees have recently been planted in the top field so I should imagine in a few years time this will help reduce the wind that came across the fields (Great View)
I will go back in the near future to this site and as I said earlier apart from the bank holiday weather my family and my friends family we had a great time.

We looked at forecast for this weekend and decided to give Golden Square a try. It was worth the trip! We were greeted by warden, who was friendly, and showed us to our pitch. Plenty of space between pitches.
The toilet block was clean, and plenty of hot water for the showers.
There is a good dog walk on site, and our collie loved it!
A small shop is on site selling usual essentials and if you fancy going further a field Helmsley is not far away, and well worth a visit with pretty shops.
A nice pub,in Coxwold,(the falconberg)is dog friendly.
I would definitely be going back to this site, the weather made it a fantastic weekend

We arrived here for our first ever family camping trip, but even with nothing to compare this site with, we could tell it was a good one! We chose Golden Square because of the previous good reviews it had received and we weren't disappointed.
The site is lovely, with a good variety of pitches all well kept and fair sized. We had plenty of room for our tent and car on one pitch. The owners and staff were really helpful and friendly from the start, and treated us like old friends.
We were worried that our 13 year old twin daughters would be bored, but within minutes of arriving they had disappeared off to the playground with several new friends. There were plenty of children there of varying ages, and the site had 2 playgrounds to suit them. The smaller was suited for younger children, and the other at the top of the site was better for the older kids with more exciting items such as the zip wire. And considering how many children were on site, the noise level was surprisingly low.
The shop was well stocked, with lovely local items (we tried the minted lamb burgers from a local butcher and they were delicious), and fairly priced. We did take a trip down to Helmsley, around 4 miles away and found a co-op and a costcutter which provided all we needed.
The bathroom facilities were second to none, with two spotless shower / toilet blocks. I fully appreciated the underfloor heating in the showers after a cold night in the tent! There was no queuing considering there were a fair few people on site, and everyone was considerate to others when it came to cleaning up after themselves, using the mops provided. The outside covered sink area was great for washing the pots, and the site had lovely piping hot water in all these areas.
We didn't visit any attractions or local areas, we were after a relaxing weekend and luckily the weather was nice enough for us to be happy just sat outside the tent in pleasant surroundings, feeling well catered for. I would definitely go back to Golden Square as we feel we got great value for money and a service second to none!

We are quite new to camping. This being our 3rd site visited. We were not disappointed, as it was exactly how its website described. Beautifully laid out, showers and toilets very clean. The lady on reception asked us on arrival if we had children or dogs and as we had neither we were pitched with likewise campers. Only one problem we found, well I should say we didn't find the pub or eatery at 1 mile it was more like a mile and three quarters to the local pub with very good food. A little too far for us oldies to walk! We compromised and got fish and chips and took them back to our tent

The shop was well stocked on just about every thing you could need and all the staff were very helpful
The toilet's and shower's were clean and very spacious and busy all through the day & night
All in all a great place to stay :)

We have just got back from a lovely bank holiday weekend (4 night stay ) the location was beautiful the staff were great and the shop was well stocked with far to many tempting homemade cakes and meats!
A great family site not somewhere to go if you want peace and quite although the noise was great reduced by 9 pm every night
The kids loved the outside play area's although they were a little disappointed with the indoor play area. The local facilities were not that local but York was only 40 mins away so plenty to do.
My only reservations are the definite lack of water points and toilets. 1 block to service the whole site was not enough.
And the other downside was the drainage, which was very poor and due to the great British weather the kids woke up at 3 am in very large puddles in the awning where it was draining like a small river through the awning :(
But I would recommend this site to friends as we did have a good weekend

Showers really clean. It was busy on a night, went quiet around 10 pm and no noise until 9am. We were on the top of the hill, was a bit of a trek for water but hey I can forgive this as we never saw our kids as they loved the park so much. We could see park from our van All I can say is big thumbs up, we needed to leave early so they refunded for fob and we arranged a place to leave it we will be back.
And they managed to get us in last minute

Arrived at 4pm, was quickly directed to our pitch. Mid Terrace pitch, level and spacious. Staff very attentive and helpful although busy time. Childrens play area a god send, our two spend lots of time at both areas. Football / Games field and dog walking area. Also small crazy golf course. Shop well stocked. Toilets and showers immaculately clean and well kept. First night was very noisy however after some complaints were made the next day, we were very impressed with how this was dealt with as they were asked to leave the site forthwith, hence second night was very quiet and we all slept very well. Lovely Family atmosphere here. On leaving, the shop was closed but there is always someone on hand to take barrier keys as the reception is still open just the shop is cordoned off. Visited The Royal Oak at Helmsley serving lovely food. We also took the children to the White Horse carved into the hill at Kilburn, we all walked the steps to the top and were rewarded by the fantastic views. All in all we cannot fault this site at all and will definitely return.

Just returned from a lovely 4 nights at this campsite. We didn't book beforehand as it was a last minute decision to go away. It was quite noisy when we first arrived at about 6p.M. As it is a large site. We asked for a quiet sheltered pitch as it was quite windy. We were directed to the Hay Field which was away from the children's play areas and could pitch wherever we wanted-loads of room and surrounded by trees for shelter. (ground OK with ordinary tent pegs!) Toilet blocks were quite a way but so what, your on holiday! and were very clean and well kept even though they were very busy. Plenty of places to visit in all different directions. We went to York via the Park and ride.
