We spent 3 nights at this very nice site which has some lovely views. The camping field is quite sloping but we managed to find a flattish pitch. It was windy but there are some more sheltered pitches near to the shower block.
There are 2 showers in both the ladies & gents, 3 toilets and basins. Showers are 50p for a good long shower (I had no trouble washing / rinsing / conditioning and frizzease-ing my hair!) and good and hot. The cubicles are quite big with hooks and a seat. The toilets ran out of loo roll one day but I understand this was to do with problems with the supplier of the large rolls for the drums and will hopefully now be rectified. The showers could perhaps have been cleaned a little better but were acceptable.
There is no recycling and the rubbish bins overflowed on a couple of days and there is only one water tap.
The site does not have a children’s play area or a dog walk. We were there at a very quiet time, only about 15-20 tents so it wasn’t a problem. In busy times you could take dogs onto the wide grass verge on the main road. Speaking of the main road, there was surprisingly little road noise except for a few motorbikes one day.
The garden centre five minutes walk away does lovely cakes and scones and has an undercover, decked area where dogs are allowed. Could be very handy in wet weather.
The site was quiet at night and 20-30 minutes walk to the centre of Whitby and the bus to Darlington & Scarborough stops on the main road. There are some lovely walks from Whiby, notably along the Cleveland Way to Robin Hoods Bay, we got the bus there and walked back.
This is a relaxed site, nobody bothered about the odd dog woof and we will definitely be going back.

We stayed here Fri 9th to Sun 11th. Its a good location, close to get to the surrounding places. We could have easily walked to whitby town, but decided to drive, only 5 mins at tops, and free parking. All the walking and the steps to the abbey.Didn't fancy a walk back!
The site is very clean, very well looked after by the owners who are really lovely, very helpful. The showers/toilets are very clean (50p for a shower, more exp than ive seen elsewhere, but pretty clean and good showers so I thought it was worth it).
There are only 2 showers in the womens, and also the mens, but I never found I had to wait, in fact, it was pretty quiet in there to say the site was full. And as others have said, 'site full' is definitely not cramped, there was loads of room still, and the owners were turning people away.
The only downside for us was the really gusty strong winds, it did seem to calm down later on in the day, but you couldn't enjoy a nice brew and a book sat outside your tent at some points. However, Sat was a glorious day and after a busy day in Whitby town, we did just that! It was very relaxing, gorgeous views as well all around. Its hit and miss I think with the wind.
We went to Goathland, Heartbeats 'Aidensfield', only a 15 min drive away. We are camping at Robin Hoods Bay possibly next weekend, otherwise we would have ventureed there too which isnt too far away.
There was a car boot right next door on Sun as well! So we had a look around there before we headed off home.
All in all, a lovely site, would definitely go back and at £5 per person per night, I think its great value, a bargain : )

This is a really nice site just on the outskirts of Whitby. It is very easy to get to as it just out of most of the 'Tourist' traffic queues going in and out of Whitby.
The site is well maintained, it's shower and toilet block are clean and well maintained (One shower broke in the morning and it was fixed by that evening). Their was a small queue for the showers in the morning if you tried to get one at 'peak times' but with a bit of planning it was easy to get one without waiting (Don't forget your 50p's).
You just find your own space to pitch your tent which for a first visit can be awkward trying to 'fit in' with those who have already pitched but if their were more than one tent this was ideal as you could create your own village (As some did next to us). With the field being a slight you may want to find a levelish piece and the wind always seemed to come from the lower right corner of the site.
The local area as most have said their is a garage over the road for emergency supplies, however if you go to the roundabout and turn left there is a Lidl 2 minutes drive away for anything you need. Whitby is a nice 20minute downhill walk away but I would say the £5 taxi back up is a much better option than the Walk back up the Hills! If you are in Whitby Magpie Cafe is where most people head but 'Trenchers' opposite the Co-op is where you will find the locals going for Excellent Fish and Chips.
Will be going back, most definitely !

Just got back from a long weekend staying at Broadings Farm and had a great time.
Firstly, its a bargain. We took our massive 6 man tent for two adults and a toddler, and my brother took his two man tent. Most sites charge per tent and have an additional charge for larger tents. This site doesn't. Its £5 per adult so only cost £45 for three adults for 3 nights.
Secondly, the site, whilst not great for walking to places, is really well located. We easily travelled to Scarborogh, Sandsend (fantastic beach), Robin Hoods Bay and Grosmont. There is also a petrol station close by and we went to the Garden Centre across the road for breakfast on the Monday morning.
Thirdly, they don't pack people in. The 'Site Full' sign was up all weekend and we had loads of room.
Finally, to address the valid negatives left by some other campers:
1. There is some road noise, however we tuned it out really quickly and stop noticing it
2. Its a 25 min walk to the harbour (we timed it!), however its a lovely walk down and a taxi back up is just £4.60
3. There are only two showers each, but despite the site being full I never had to queue and 50p gives you an 8 minute shower
4. Its a windy site. Not much I can say other than yes it is however we found that the wind died down each evening and despite a significant number of the larger tents left on the site on Sunday afternoon being wrecked by the 30mph winds, we pitched our tent properly and it was fine.
I am sure that we will go back to this site regularly.

Owners are extremely friendly. We chose a top corner of the field and boy did we regret it! Not sure if it was just because it was extremely windy, but loads of tents around us collapsed.
Be aware that although the views are outstanding, it is a very exposed field with nothing around to shelter the wind. Having said that we had a great time, but the wind was something else! The toilet blocks were clean and well stocked.

Had a lovely week despite consistently awful weather!
We had a warm welcome when we arrived and were pleasantly surprised to see the “Site Full” sign up when more tents could have been fit into the field. The result was plenty of space for everyone and no feeling of being squashed in.
The toilets and showers are in a pleasant purpose-built block and were clean all the time with plenty of paper and hand soap. The only criticism might be that there wasn’t anywhere to hang coats whilst you’re in there, except hooks inside the shower cubicles (which also had a folding seat to put stuff on).
The views (when it stopped raining) were lovely and the site seemed to drain well and never became muddy despite loads of rain - even though we were pitched in a bit of a dip.
The walk into Whitby was about 30-35 minutes (to the interesting bit!), without dawdling, and whilst we’d have liked to be nearer to the sea, I think this site benefits from being slightly inland and hence a bit sheltered from the wind.
Be sure to try crab sandwiches at the roadside cafe at Sandsend - lovely food with lovely view! And walk south on the coast path to Saltwick Bay (through huge caravan park) to find a wild-feeling beach for wave-watching! And for a splash-out dinner have the lobster at “Marine” on the front at Whitby.

Top notch camp site, would recommend it to anyone! friendly welcome, clean site 20 mins walk to whitby. Bus stop outside, whitby is a lovely place to visit, great scenery and great pubs.
2 showers 50p each only had to wait once in whole week even though site was full. And full here means lots of space not crammed in like sardines!. Go here or you will miss out.

Just returned from a very pleasant weekend here. A really good base for exploring Whitby and excellent value for money. Toilets and showers were extremely clean and tidy as was the whole site.
The site was fully booked on our first night but at no time did it feel cramped or busy. The tent field is slightly sloping but as it is free pitching it was easy to find a suitable space for our group.
On the whole a great little site. We would have benefited from a play area or games field for the children and feel it lacks recycling facilities but would happily recommend for a short break with lovely views.

We initially booked for one night, as we do on most sites so that we can make sure the area, site, facilities are suitable etc before committing to further nights. The site was very well positioned, despite the sloping field, with outstanding views of the surrounding countryside.
The toilets are surprisingly modern and clean for a converted farm. The main road close by was busy but we couldn't hear it. The garage is close by and has the usual facilities. We walked into Whitby (lovely to go in, but not quite as appealing walking back!) - a steady 20 minute walk.
If you turn left when leaving the site, there is a large garden centre and cafe about 5 mins walk away and also one of the most outstanding pubs you will ever visit, with beautifully landscaped gardens and an amazing interior (very well designed, comfortable, modern, leather suites, the works - although from the outside front, it looks like any other country pub) - definitely should be visited.
The only problem we had with the site was, because we only booked for one night, when we went to pay the following day for a further 2 nights, we were told, as were others, that the site was fully booked and that we would have to leave. This was very disappointing as we had travelled 100 miles and there are only a couple of sites within a 10 mile radius so we would have had to find another site, with availability, take our tent down, pack up and then start again elsewhere. We were then approached a little later on by the owner who said we could stay after a couple of cancellations.
The only other downside to an outstanding part of the UK, North Yorks and Whitby, it is very expensive to drink! I'm not sure how it is justified other than through greed, but some pubs were charging over £3 for a pint on lager (Carling/Fosters) - and I'm not talking about great pubs, just regular types with over priced beer. This was very disappointing and will influence our decision to return to Whitby as we go out a lot and at that rate, it works out very expensive.
If we were to return to Whitby however for a stay, we would re-visit Broadings Farm, and would recommend it to our friends and family.

Superb location, only a mile from Whitby. Great views over Whitby Abbey and North York Moors.
As other reviewers have said, site is just off main road, so there is some road noise during the night.
Toilets very good. Only 2 showers (50p) in both Male& female, although rarely did I have to wait and site was full. (approx 30 tents?)
Tent pitches are on a slight slope, but most people found a good pitch.
We had great weather, so no probs with wet grass.
There is a garage across the road for Milk, Cash machine etc and an Lidl and Spar within 0.5 miles. Very handy indeed.
Advantages
- Location to Whitby and views
- Good clean toilets / showers
- Friendly staff
- Plenty of animals for children
- Good space for kids games, although no park
Disadvantages
- Only one water tap (apart from washing up area)
- Small rubbish bins - often full
- No recycling facilities
- Road noise.
Would definitely recommend if visiting area.
