We stayed here for a night on the way back to the South West.

The site itself is located just up the road from Brecon, so it's a good distance from the shops and also not far from the Beacons. The track that leads into the site is a bit dodgy and not very well surfaced as you get further in.

The facilities were obviously fairly new and seemed to be well cleaned. There weren't many toilets or showers though, so it was necessary to queue often. We were also a bit annoyed that we paid what I would describe as a premium price for the night - £15 and still we had to pay 50p for a 4 minute shower. Honestly I've paid less for a site of the same quality and still had a free hot shower. There seems to be a trend at the moment of adding lots of little extra prices here and there, that we started seeing last season. Also generally we paid more on average per night in Wales than in England. What's more is that the lights in the toilet block are turned off after 2230, so it's a bit of a task using the toilet in torchlight. It would be better if there was a timer switch, if saving energy. Or more likely money is the case. The water in the washing up area is cold too.

What was unusual is that we had to check out before we left. Which was a bit strange and I can't say I've ever encountered it on any other site before.

On the plus side, it was nice to see the chickens roaming free as they should be. We found them to be very entertaining.

To conclude, we enjoyed our stay and we liked the location, but we felt that the owners were a bit tight fisted and expected a little bit more for our money.

The farm is truly beautiful and if there were less people there I am sure I we would have loved it. The river is lovely and the facilities were very clean. The location couldn't be better, just a ten minute walk into Brecon, but nevertheless, incredibly peaceful and relaxing.

The big problem for me though was the overcrowding. We were there in the first week of the summer holidays and I had misinterpreted the reviews by thinking that 'quiet' and 'peaceful' meant there were not so many people. In fact, it was packed and the tents were pitched really close together. You could hear every word the neighbouring families said at times, and children playing ball right next to me irritated me and my dog quite often. The only reason it is quiet was because there were lots of rules pinned up around the place so that everyone was on their best behaviour, so it ended up feeling a bit restrictive and unnatural; a fake silence like some sort of religious retreat; and it annoyed me that I couldn't let my dog off the lead at all (almost all campsites say please keep dogs on the lead, but most are relaxed as long as the dogs are obedient, but at Priory Mill the rules are very strict). On the last night I couldn't bare to sit there again, feeling the need to have to whisper in case I disturbed someone, so we got fish and chips and sat in the deserted Priory of St. Johns up the road and it the atmosphere there was much better!

And it was really overpriced. Its the most expensive campsite I have ever been to so far but I don't think it was the best camping experience I've had. 16 pounds per night for 2 adults and 1 dog plus 50p for 4 minutes shower I found too much.

I would certainly go again because Brecon and the surrounding area is so incredibly beautiful, as is the farm, but never again in the school holidays!

First time visitor to this site, not sure what to expect. Basically we had a great time.

The site is very small, but in a great location. Right next to a river, and only a 10 to 15 minute walk into the town, where there are loads of eating places.

The bathrooms are basic but clean, the showers need a 50p but do the job. The owners are friendly and also hire out metal fire log burners, and the logs, so we had a great time one night sitting by the fire.

Only one drawback was not being able to park up next to your tent as cars weren't allowed on the grass.

We'll be going back for sure!

We just returned from a great weekend at this campsite. Lovely site located in a small valley beside a river, close to Brecon. Plenty of space to pitch wherever you wanted.

Facilities were excellent - clean showers/toilets, small wooden hut for washing up, Small hut full of information of the local area. We were allowed campfires using only the local wood(£5 a bag). Small logs available to use as seats! Be aware there are plenty of cheeky hens around who may try and steal some food if it is lying around!

Ideal for anyone looking for a small site, in a quiet location. Ideal for walkers as its not far too pen y fan!

We will definitely be back, highly recommended!

Just returned from 2 nights at this fantastic site. Location is perfect. Quiet and out of the way enough to have that lovely isolated feel about it yet a 10 minute leisurely stroll away is the lovely town of Brecon where if you don't fancy cooking you can get some fish & chips or have a meal as well as pick up any bits and pieces you may have forgotten (like a tin opener in our case, lol). The other thing is that this site is right next to one of the main roads in and out of Brecon so there was traffic passing by at all hours, didn't really notice it myself living a stones throw from one of the busiest train lines.

Facility wise, it has toilets, showers and 2 sinks outside for washing dishes. Our only gripe is the showers, although clean, you have to pay 50p for 4 minutes use and the first minute of that is waiting for the water to get up to temperature. Apparently the money goes to charity but, personally I feel all facilities should be included in the pitching fees.

Site is also dog friendly, though you have to keep them on a lead at all times as there are some cheeky hens wandering all over the site. It may not sound much but they provided so much entertainment, especially one who we nicknamed ninja chicken as a few times we were looking in the hedges and all of a sudden you would see this chicken stick his head of the top of them. The little fella's are not shy either, if your eating or cooking something they like the smell of, they'll invite themselves over to try to have a share (ninja chicken seemed partial to bananas).

Didn't see any playground for children anywhere but to be totally honest, we didn't go looking for one and the children we did see were all enjoying themselves and making their own entertainment, either playing ball, going down by the river or following the chickens.

Pleny of birds around area as well due to the woodlands, we heard a few tawny owls hooting during the night as well as seeing a couple of other ones flying and screeching in the night (cant remember what they were called now as my better half is the bird watcher). Also seen plenty of buzzards and even saw a couple of ravens chasing one buzzard off which was pretty cool seeing something in real life that you only tend to see on nature shows on tv.

Like has been mentioned previously, on checking in although the owners were pleasant enough, after the initial hello we were given a list of things you are not allowed to do etc. And although dogs are allowed as soon as our puppy was spotted in the car, just couldn't help but feel like I was being frowned upon for taking him. There was also no noise after 10:30pm which was awesome.

All in all though it was a cracking site and we will be visiting again for sure

A small pleasant campsite, in a very convenient location for access to Brecon and the surrounding National Park. The booking was very efficient and friendly via email to Susie Gaskell.

Unfortunately where the site is at the bottom of a valley, with very tall trees by the river, it has limited hours of direct sunlight.

The temperature regulation of the showers was poor and site needs more showers and toilets for the number of pitches.

The washbasins don’t have hot water early in the morning, I suspect that it is solar powered with no hot water stored overnight. Also, there is no hot water to the sinks for washing up.

Although the chickens were very entertaining, the chicken poo outside my tent entrance was less pleasant!

What a lovely site, spent 2 nights, clean toilets, cheeky hens running around, 5 min walk to brecon town, 15 min drive to storey arms.

Highly recommended for small parties, large groups arent allowed, which keeps the campsite nice amd peaceful. Added bonus you are allowed campfires (in a metal tray provided).

Spent the first night under the stars listening to local tawny owl calling from the woods. The second day went up pen y fan. Came back tired but happy. Got fish & chips down the road and came back to eat it while still hot around the campfire.

Will use this friendly, clean and picturesque site again :)

This is not a campsite for people who want to be waited on hand and foot- bit if you wanted that, you'd go to a hotel, wouldn't you?

Quiet, peaceful and with excellent amenities, this is perfect if you want to get away from modern life for a bit while still being close enough to town for the essentials. All you can hear at night is the river and the wind in the trees.

Noel and Susie are friendly and helpful, though very busy with running the farm day to day. Watch out for the chickens when you arrive - when they say free-range they mean free range and it would be a bad start to your holiday to run one over!

This was a first visit to the Brecon area for a 3 night stay for 2 of us; and a first time camping for many years. The campsite is easily found on one of the roads into Brecon, and consists of a field between the river and the road mill. The river and wood opposite make a charming backdrop for camping; at night there is very little light pollution though March is not the best time for stargazing! We slept well; camped by the river the noise of small rapids is enough to cover the sounds of the few cars there were, though not too much to allow owls to be heard.

The owner was very helpful and pleasant; we arrived at dusk though other parties arrived much later at night and this was no problem; other requests for help and information were met with no trouble at all. Throughout the weekend there were no more than 5 or 6 other parties present and there is sufficient space and facilities that there was no problem with noise or getting in each others' way.

The facilities consist of a modern-looking shower and toilet block with (I think) 2 or 3 coin-operated showers in separate cubicles - easy to use with just enough room for the larger visitor - along with a few toilets/sinks; 2 washing-up sinks (cold water only); ample parking; there are also fire-trays and a small library (one imagines they are not designed to be used together!). In March it was quite damp and as we were walking through the day our footwear also got damp; apart from hot water at the sinks one could also wish for a drying room or area (though not having camped for a while I don't know if such is usual elsewhere).

Brecon itself is a nice little town on the edge of a very beautiful area; there are convenience stores, pubs and restaurants, and outdoor suppliers within 10 minutes' walk of the campsite.

Overall, a very enjoyable visit; I would recommend this site and I'd be quite happy to use again in future.

This place is a little gem. Lovely setting, easy access, clean facilities and only 10 mins walk along the river to the town. They allow camp fires as long as you use the fire pits provided. Owners are very welcoming and have thought of everything.

You can hear the road from the site but it is not very busy and I didn't really notice it.

There are clean, hot showers which are lovely.

The owners are in to their recycling and they provide bins for this.

While I was there, the site was quite quiet. It is only a small site so it may be best visited during the week at peak periods.
