Beautiful quiet site. Warm welcome from owners who are friendly and helpful. Easy walk to Brecon where there is a variety of shops, a lovely cathedral and canal. We hired a boat for a day and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Toilet block is regularly cleaned; two female, two male toilets and two showers. Idyllic setting; very peaceful for anyone looking for a quiet break.

This campsite was great - it was our first time camping for a number of years - husband myself and out 15 year old son (the older two stayed at home and missed a treat). He really enjoyed the sense of not being on a 'commercial' site and it's simplicity.

The site is secluded and the sound of the river both calming and interesting. Even with the dreadful weather on Saturday night my son enjoyed the opportunity of building a campfire and of course the compulsory marshmallows.

There is plenty to do in the surrounding area and after a trip to Brecon on Saturday morning very close - about 1 m - to collect a forgotten tin opener and pump for the airbed that would work with the car (we really appreciated it all the more after a night on the ground) we went to Hay on Wye and just enjoyed a relaxing stroll around the bookshops.

Owners and fellow campers all very friendly and noise was not a problem unless you have an objection to the sound of the river or the calls of owls! The facilities were exceptionally clean and well cared for and you are encouraged to recycle your rubbish.

Even with the experience of cooking in the rain we are definitely converted back to camping and this relaxed and friendly site really contributed to this.

Were looking for somewhere to escape to for the night, as that's all the time we had.

Email response on enquiry was very friendly and quick.

Site was lovely, nice and small, facilities were spotless and nicely crafted, didn't look out of place in the surroundings.

Gentleman friendly on arrival and assured us they never cram tents in, it got reasonably full while we were there, but we still had enough space.

Little log seats were a god send and a really nice touch. But make sure you grab them when you get there, they are very popular. We didn't have a fire pit, but probably would if we were staying longer. We would never have got through a whole bag of logs, they were a good size.

The babbling river was lovely,as were the wild flowers in the bank, don't think I have ever seen such a variety of ferns.

The only down and only a slight one, was the road was a bit busier than I had imagined it was going to be, mainly rush hour times, was quite later on in evening, and had quietened down around 11am when we were packing up.

All in all lovely site for a peaceful relaxing break. We shall definitely be back.

As has previously been said, a very relaxed campsite, 'small but perfectly formed' comes to mind. The owners, Susie and Noel, were just like the best waiters, always seeming to be there when needed (and not otherwise!).
The facilities were perfectly adequate, although if the site was fuller there could well be delays. No EHU, but we don't use it so no problem (and it probably keeps the trad camping feel all the more). This is a lovely rural campsite, but within 5 or 10 minutes walk of the town centre - the best of both worlds.
In Brecon, for those who like a pub with a garden, there is only one - The Clarence - but a surprisingly nice garden. Didn't try their food, but it seemed like reasonable pub grub. And of course the Brecon Beacons are wonderful - I even enjoyed driving again with so little traffic around!

My partner and I had a fantastic time here. We loved making a wood fire, which allowed us to experience traditional camping. The views from the campsite were beautiful and every morning we woke up to the sound of flowing water from the stream. The owners of the campsite (including the chickens) are really friendly and welcoming.

It is also really well looked after, everyday the bins are emptied, toilet and shower cubicles are cleaned.

We booked three nights on this campsite, as it ticked all the boxes we required: in / near Brecon Beacons, allowed dogs to roam free (off leash), and you could have an open fire.

We arrived in the afternoon, and as luck would have it, it was going to be a very wet weekend indeed. We were asked not to drive our car onto the grass. We duly complied, but it did mean ferrying all our things to and from the car was a small annoyance.

We soon discovered that the campsite is mostly on clay terrain. This means that, when it rains, the whole place becomes a mud pool, with huge puddles. It made finding a spot to set-up our tent very difficult and unpleasant. Then came the worst.

The place is absolutely packed with rules you have to obey. From not being allowed to move the car onto the grass, dogs not allowed free because the owners like to have their chickens free about, rules in the toilet, rules where you were and were not allowed to be, kept one part of the camp site off limits for some reason, and a long etc. This completely ruined our stay. We just didn't feel welcome there, so decided to cut our break one day short and head for home.

On a positive note, the location is very good. The stream is delightful, and is very close to Brecon for the necessary supplies.

We can positively say we will never go back to this campsite. There are much more welcoming places that also allow open fires out there

The campsite was awesome, it was our first time camping as a family and we all really enjoyed the weekend.

It is a very beautiful place and very well kept, the shower block was spotless, 50p for four minuets is reasonable and was ample time for me. The kids loved playing down by the river and on the swing, we camped in the middle field and found we had plenty of room throughout the weekend.
The weather was amazing and the camp is a real sun trap, we took advantage of the use of a fire pit on the second night, one not available on the first night (there are only a few available so make sure you enquire about one soon as possible to avoid disappointment).
The logs are £4.00 a bag and having the fire made it that more special. Only a short walk into town and there was plenty of shops for supplies and some nice local pubs. Would recommend this site and we will be returning soon.
The only thing I could suggest is that there were more fire pits and a play area for the kids.

Can’t say enough good things about this site, it is just as camping should be. The site is quite small, in a valley and next to a beautiful river. You can buy wood, have a fire in a fire pit, buy the free-range eggs and enjoy the setting.
My son spent the day fishing for trout; we sat late into the evening round the fire watching the moon rise. Brecon is a ten-minute walk away. The toilet block is beautiful, hand crafted by the owner who is a skilled woodworker. What a wonderful place.

We visited this site in early Aug and we have really enjoyed it, would def return.

Yes.It was quite wet when we went, but it really was a campsite as they all should be, tranquil, campfires allowed, free range chickens wandering around (you can buy the eggs too), friendly and helpful owners who really care about their site.

It is a basic site, ie no EHU, and one set of showers/toilets, but they are kept really clean. We found that while it was 50p for a 4 min shower, for me, it took a £1.50 for me to do my hair etc without rushing!

PS - don't make the mistake I did first day and bung two 50p's in at once, thinking you'll get a 8 min shower. The machine only registers one coin at a time. The shower goes cold when the money runs out, so you know when to put the next coin in.

We camped further down from the showers and owners home, its a bit quieter as lots of people seem to camp nearer the shower block.

The only downside was that there is no hot water to wash up with - but I did my washing up at camp and then just tipped my waste water down the sinks much easier than lugging kettles and washing up backwards and forwards!

Even though it was wet, the site drains really well and when the sun gets out, it gets really warm and dries the ground (and your wet tent) quickly.

The best thing is that the owners put a sign up while we were there to say that the campsite was full, and we all still had loads of room. No camping on top of each other, which was great.

Brecon is only a short drive or walk away, there is a massive Morrisons for all your essentials, along with the tourist info centre, a selection of good pubs and restaurants, little interesting shops and outdoor activity/camping shops - great.

The glory of the Beacon National Park and all the associated activies (walking, pony trekking and cycling) are all within a few miles away.

As I said previously, we would def return to this site when we want another break in Brecon.

This is a wonderful gem of a campsite. It's a lovely location right by the River Monnow and is a perfect site if you're looking for peace and tranquillity!

When we camped the weather had been wet, but although the ground was soft it wasn't too muddy. There is a small toilet and shower block, which was kept scrupulously clean the whole time we were there. (Showers are 50p).

We loved being able to have our own campfire (using the metal trays provided, so you don't scorch the grass). It was so nice to sit out in the evening, have a BBQ and a glass of wine and then cosy up around the campfire. A perfect end to good walking in the Brecon Beacons which are really close.

Would be great to have hot water for washing up at the sinks, but it's no trouble to boil a kettle and take it with you to do the washing up.

This site is just lovely and if you like camping because you want to be in natural surroundings and close to nature this site is the perfect place. We're going back next month for more!
