We had a six-night stay in September 2011.
The site sits beside the River Honddu, which was lovely to pitch beside. This is not the place to come if you want to get away from it all as it’s just a couple of minutes from the centre of Brecon and adjoins an A road, which, although not very noisy or busy, can be heard and seen at just about any time of day. After a while though, you don’t notice the passing vehicles and it’s not a real drawback to camping at the site.
The owners were pleasant enough, while not being that friendly or warm, but we were surprised to be handed to what amounted to a list of rules when we first arrived; most of the points on the list were sensible and were aimed at the good upkeep of the site and the quality of stay for everyone else, so we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, but it does seem a little too precious and sets a slightly patronizing and arms-length tone as you fork over your cash. I know to the owners it’s a business, but I suspect the very best campsites, one which people want to return again and again, exude a real feeling of welcome and hospitality, which Priory Mill does not. Maybe the same list could just be posted on a couple of prominent notice boards or the most important ones just mentioned when greeting arrivals? There are several signs around the site of a similar nature – the daftest had to be the one above a standpipe that requested the user to avoid wetting the ground. It would be better if the owners assumed that most people were sensible adults who on the whole would do the right thing without being told.
The site was not crowded when we were there; there was still enough space to have 15-20 yards between tents. On the other side of the river, there is a wood which has a rookery. In the evening as the birds were roosting, something would spook them and they would all go off into a great cloud of flapping and cawing – a wonderful sight. In the dusk, bats could be seen and at night owls could be heard.
The facilities are generally of a high standard; there is some lovely workmanship on the block that houses the showers, loos and sinks. The owners ensure that these are kept scrupulously clean and tidy. There are shelves and pegs by the sinks for all the paraphernalia that the cleaning of contact lenses requires. However, as others have remarked, there’s not much sound privacy between those using the loos and sinks or showers, which some people will not like. There was no queuing while we were there, but this was a September visit.
The washing-up facilities could benefit from more space around the two sinks provided; it was difficult to both wash and rinse when the other sink was in use. Also, one has to heat one’s own kettle in order to get hot washing-up water – fair enough, not a major headache unless you had no kettle.
Fire pits are provided, but charging £5 for a small bag of logs seemed steep as there were cheaper alternatives to be had in town.
Overall this is a pretty good site, but not one to which we’d return. However, if you want to be close to Brecon and you’re not put off by the minor negatives above, this could be the place for you.

A nice small campsite on the outskirts of Brecon, agree with most of the reviews here, but there is one thing I can't believe other reviewers haven't mentioned, in that the site is down an embankment just below the Hay road which is one of the main routes into Brecon, and whilst the road is pretty quiet at night, traffic starts early - we were woken by traffic noise at 6ish every morning we were there.
As others have said the toilets and showers are nice and clean but there aren't many of them which wasn't a problem when the site was not full but as the week went on (see below) queues were forming for the 2 showers.
Lastly I was lead to believe that the owners didn't overbook to keep the site spacious. But at the end of the week that we were there it became quite crowded with tents on top of each other in the field past the toilet block, let's hope it was a one off.

We stayed here summer 2011. We chose this site because you can have a camp fire. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children (12 and 5). Site is small, totally un-Commercialised with basic loos and showers. Although small the owners make it a policy not to have too many campers. There are no play areas as such for the children but ours were never bored.
As far as What we really liked - camp fire, no pitches for the area that we were in (some areas have marked pitches I believe), the river, the walks, the Log chairs, the rope swing, the proximity to brecon (you can walk in to town in a few minutes, but the site has a very rural feel), the free roaming hens. What we didn't like, pay showers, the fact that the place is almost always fully booked and you need to be quick to get a reservation.

Used this site as a base for Brecon Jazz as it is easy walking distance from the town. Beautiful peaceful location to unwind after/during a busy day. Does get booked up quickly - when we tried to book some additional days before our originally booked stay they were full. They keep numbers down to keep the site quiet.
There was a rope swing from a tree for the kids and apart from that they made there own entertainment. There is wildlife including bats to see/hear by the river and fun to be had with camp-fires and barbecues (using the site's own equipment only as far as I remember).
The toilet block is cosy although there wasn't always much hot water to the washbasins in the mornings - I think it may have been solar heated. It is also a little odd that everything (washbasins/toilet/shower) has it's own door to the outside so you go in and out a few times at each visit. Take plenty of change for the showers so you don't run out of water part way through.
Would definitely stay there again if in the area. Not the cheapest of sites bearing in mind the fairly basic facilities but worth every penny for the convenience, beauty and tranquillity of the location.

My Husband, myself, 2 boys and 2 dogs have just returned from this fab little site, and we LOVED it.
The only downside was that the stay wasn't longer.
It is perfect for us as we like spacious pitches and we didn't feel crammed in.
Lovely and clean facilities, and Susie was always friendly and helpful.
My boys loved the tree swing and wading in the river, especially after a boiling hot day. They were in heaven and sad to leave.
The only negative I found (and it is very minor) was that there was no hot water to wash the dishes. I resolved this by boiling our own water - job done !
The men in our tent loved being able to have a camp fire and were in their element.
Brecon town centre is a lovely stroll away and we found loads to do from going rowing to finding great parks for the children to play in. There is loads to do for us all and we are very keen to go back.
Great site - thank you !

Absolutely beautiful site, Susie was fantastic after we had a bit of a mission to find it due to an error by google on the listing and assured us by email after we got home that this problem had been sorted out.
The toilet block and showers were lovely and clean and the block was built in a style that fitted into the landscape of the site.
As we had a long day before getting to the site we just cooked some food and made a coffee and relaxed in the evening but we will definitely be back for a much longer stay to explore Brecon and the surrounding area.
Another major plus is the wide range of shops in Brecon from Aldi to Morrisons to top up on supplies if you need to.
One thing to remember though is if you are tasty to midges like I seem to be, make sure to use insect repellent or have a couple of citronella candles or something similar. This is no reflection on the site, more of a cautionary tale.

Location:
Located 10 minutes walk into Brecon along a river. The site is set down from the main road and traffic noise didn't seem to be a problem. The pitches are pretty flat with just a few areas that are slightly inclined.
Facilities:
Basic but well maintained and clean facilities: two showers, two ladies toilets one gents toilet and two wash rooms (ladies and gents). The lights go out at 22:30 this also includes the hot water. The showers require 50p for 4 mins.
Two external washing up basins with cold water only. A group of recycling bins and plenty of drinking water taps around the site. There is also a small info 'shed' with a freezer for ice packs.
Fire trays are available to use if you buy the wood from the site. There are also wood stumps for stools and bricks for BBQs etc. There are a few wheel barrows around so you can take your gear from the car hard standings to the pitches
No shop on site (apart from selling eggs)
Overall:
This is a pretty basic site but well maintained and has a nice atmosphere. There is a trendy 'green' theme throughout the site.
There are a couple of things that could put people off: lights and hot water not being available 24/7 in the toilets/wash rooms. No hot water at the washing up points. Having to pay for showers.
I understand the owners are very against groups at the site as they want to keep the family and quiet atmosphere.
I'm surprised the owners don't have a small shop at reception even if only selling very basic things.
We were asked not to park on the grass and only use the hard standing - a good thing in my opinion as it makes the site look much nicer without cars spread everywhere - you can of course use the wheel barrows to move you stuff.
The owners where very friendly and helpful. I had a problem with the shower which was immediately addressed and I was given a few extra 50ps for my inconvenience.
The site is probably not everyone's cup of tea due to the limited facilities but if you are happy with what they have I'm sure you'll thoroughly enjoy your stay here! I definitely will be going back.

This could be a delightful site as it is in perfect location which combines the secluded feel of the wooded Honddu valley with just being a few minutes walk from the town of Brecon and all its facilities.
The Brecon Beacons National Park has magnificent scenery and offers a range of outdoor activities.
The site's own facilities are rather primitive but adequate and recycling is encouraged.
However the site suffers from too many petty regulations. There are twee notices everywhere ('Don't spill water on the ground') and an atmosphere of constantly being watched for compliance

I stayed here in May with a friend for 2 nights as a base for walking in the Brecon's. We had two small tents and one 4x4 vehicle and pitched right next to the river. The pitches are not numbered and you can go where you like. The owners are nice and helpful.
The site is great - small but very tidy with spotless showers and toilets. The showers cost 50p for 4 mins which was fine except when someone flushed the loo and it went cold! There is an outdoor area to hang towels to dry.
The car park is quite small and we were not permitted to park next to the tents so as to preserve the ground. Hence the ground was in good condition.
Fires are permitted as long as the wood is purchased from the site and the proper containers used. Some people had bbq's too.
I would definitely use the site again as a base for exploring.

Just back from 2 nights stay at Priory Mill.
Really easy to book on line and a lovely email received back from Susie even apologising for not emailing promptly the night before.
The site is an easy 10 minute walk into Brecon, made even easier by being able to cut a bit of the road off by using the gate at the end of the campsite. Only one minor negative for us in a 'van and that was to get to the camp field itself is a very sharp angle and took a bit of manoeuvring when we arrived but in honesty that was also due to heavy rain and 2 other vehicles also trying to manoeuvre around the same corner!
We had a lovely pitch right by the river. The facilities were lovely and clean even when it had rained and was muddy underfoot.
If you have bicycles, the Taff Trail is a really good ride out.
We popped into Brecon both times of an evening. We would recommend 'Zeera'. A really good Indian restaurant next to Cotswold outdoor shop and directly en route from the campsite into town. The food and service was excellent and a really reasonable price.
On the other hand a place to avoid for food was the 'Puzzle Tree'. Rubbish service, over priced and quite frankly disgusting food. My OH had a burger and pronounced it the most horrid one he has eaten, gross. To top it all they don't take card payments only cash. A nice place for a drink but don't bother to eat there.
I should also say we do normally cook when we camp (honest) but the weather was so changeable and we were so tired that we couldn't be bothered!
We would definitely stay at Priory Mill again.
