Have just returned from a lovely stay at this site. We did book it some time ago and were really pleased with our pitch which was quiet and tucked out of the way. The site was very busy when we were there and we were grateful that we were not amongst the main body of the campsite.
The facilities I found to be very clean and usually there was plenty of hot water when I wanted to take a shower (20P for about 4.5 mins). The only problem I found was that the water pressure on the showers was a bit rubbish if the other showers were in use so you ended up with a really thick dribble of water instead of a proper shower! Yes, there were rather a lot of rules, however, to be honest I didn't have a problem with it, the kids were turfed off the play area at 8pm which seems quite fair enough considering there were lots of tents near to it without kids who probably welcomed the quiet!
Lyme Regis is lovely. Get there early for parking near the cobb and if you are going to do a lot of beach stuff there, invest in an extended parking ticket. Take a trip to Beer for rock pooling. Beautiful bay and relatively unspoilt. Talbot Arms is good for the standard pub grub, if you want something really special (you will pay for it though!), take a trip out to the wheelwright on the way out to Seaton. You will never taste fish and chips like it! service was wonderful and we know that they will take well behaved dogs in the bar too.
Overall a lovely site in beautiful area. Have booked again for next year so we can continue our adventures!

Stayed at Hook Farm for the Easter break. There had been a lot of rain so I rang beforehand to ask about the quality of the ground to be informed it was 'drying out nicely' and would be ok. Regrettably the site was a mudbath and I got stuck several times having to be towed out and sited by the owner Adrian. Yes it was kind to tow me out but really more of the site's pitches should have been closed as the grass/mud was in a terrible state.
We squelched our way through the weekend, and enjoyed it very much, but this was more to do with the beauty of Dorset than the site.
The facilities were clean and functional, very industrial in design, but plenty of toilets and powerful showers (20p for approx 10 mins)
They have a well stocked shop and friendly welcome. The site is located 5 mins from the main road where there is a pub (good pint of Aspalls) which had strange opening hours for food - for example no food on Bnk Hol Monday
The bus stops are at the main road and buses are once per hour & on time we used them as the campervan was stuck in the mud. There is a lovely riverside walk into Lyme Regis which is lovely with lots of birdlife. Lyme Regis is fabulous with plenty to see and good restaurants and shops.
Would we go back yes in better weather it is quiet and nestles in a valley, it's proper camping nothing fancy, but could do with more hard standing pitches.

Arrived home yesterday from a two week stay at this park. We arranged to arrive early and were able to leave our unit on site whilst we went into Lyme for breakfast and wander round. Went back to the site around 1 and were shown to our pitch with a warm welcome. The site is terraced up a hill with one or two ramps onto some pitches.
The facilities were all fine, although with having a pitch near the play area both facility blocks were up hill either there or back! The showers are 20p for 4.5 minutes which isn't a problem for us. There are also freezers available for those using freezer blocks. Shop was fine but fairly limited stock compared to some camp shops we've seen - provides all the basics though (bread, milk, bacon etc). Washing machine was £2.50 & tumble dryer £1.50.
The playground is small but seemed to please most of the children using it - our 2 are both 7 and made plenty of friends. Our only issue with the site was that we were next to the play area and people used our pitch as an entry/exit point to the play area. The site manager was made aware of this and said they have plans to try & limit this in future. Play area was closed around 8.00pm. Nice walks possible direct from the campsite too.
If visiting Lyme then use the car park at the top of the hill leading to the Cobb - £1 to park all day. The car park near The Cobb is more convenient but costs around £1/hour.
Lymes Fish Bar seemed the best for Fish & Chips - they have a hut by the main sandy beach and a shop near Town Mill. The Cobb Fish Bar at the bottom of the main street wasn't as good and seemed expensive for what we had.
Town Mill Bakery is good for a different sort of breakfast and Herbies (again by the main beach) do the usual burger & chips but also serve fish from the local fishmonger round the corner (I had whitebait one day which was lovely).
Mackerel fishing from the Cobb is good - around £8 for adults and £6 for children. Lifeboat week was interesting for the children, with the carnival running 2 weeks after (w/c 7th August in 2010)
Beer & Pecorama are worth a visit, as are Sidmouth and Abbotsbury. The passport for the attractions in Abbotsbury is good value if visiting more than one of the attractions, with our favourite being the tropical gardens.
A good, clean, well run campsite in a great location - we'll be going back one day!

On arrival we found it very regimental and were given a printed list of do's and don't's. In particular no noise after 11pm - this did not concern us as we had 3 children under 8, however to our surprise we were asked to keep the noise down whilst taking in our own tent at 11.05 - we had only just got our children off to sleep.
If you will be asleep by 11 then you would love this site because it really is no noise after 11.
Lovely walk into Lyme Regis but not suited to prams. Local pub served great food unfortunately our experience found hair (possibly from pubs dog) in 3 of 10 meals.
Campsite very crowded and felt overlooked, ground very stony. Will not return

I have just returned from a lovely week at Hook Farm. We stayed in a static van while my inlaws had a pitch for their caravan.
The site is on a steep hill with narrow roads and no pavements.
The static was great. It was clean and had fantastic views from the balcony. The electric was metered and we put £2.00 in for the week.
The pitch my inlaws had was of good size as were most the pitches we saw.
The shower block needs updating and it is very annoying when you go to wash the pots and there is no hot water.
There are rather a lot of rules and yes you will be told if you are caught breaking any.
The shop has the basics and is open all day.
The staff are friendly and helpful.
The walk to Lyme Regis is lovely and well worth doing as you can catch the bus back up the hill. (£1.20pp and runs hourly)
All in all I would recommend this site. It is clean and is in a good location.

The setting for this site is beautiful and well laid out, but as others have said, at busy times it does feel a bit crammed in. The biggest problem with Hook Farm is the facilities. There are only 5 showers - two of which we were told to 'use early as the hot water runs out quickly'! Not really acceptable considering this is not a cheap site to stay on. The owners really need to spend more on the showers - having to queue for 20 minutes in the morning for a cold shower spoils things somewhat.
The childs play area is one boat and two tyre swings and not suitable for those little ones.
Another little gripe is the list of rules. They are long and break them at your peril. You will get a 'quiet word' from the owners who will give advice on how to drive, park, keep the grass nice, etc etc. However, the advantage to the long list of rules is a quiet, peaceful site with no yobs or vicious dogs.
The shop is very basic, but does provide all the basics (and some bizarre tinned foods).
The local pub has excellent, good value food and is easy to walk to. Lyme Regis is a good, fairly easy 30 minute walk.
The campsite itself is very dog friendly, as is the whole area, which makes a lovely change for us dog lovers.
Overall, the site is good, but is in need of updating - definitely more showers and hot water please!

This is an excellent site - we had a good pitch & views. Friendly & helpful staff. Possibly the best toilet block I have been to- very clean & spacious. Village pub was friendly with several real ales & the Post Office has a good selection of food. There is a regular (hourly ) bus service to & from Lyme though the last bus back is 9.30. It's also a nice walk along the river to Lyme & easy to find the route. Definitely recommend.

This was the best of the sites we visited during a week's tour of Devon and Somerset.
A really beautiful view, excellent facilities and friendly staff.
For some who are wanting to visit the seaside they may find that it's a bit of a long walk. We had out bikes with us but it's very steep countryside so walking was the best option and most enjoyable.

So Disappointing. My husband and I had visited this site about 15 years ago and loved it, which is why we decided to go back there on our way back from a long weekend camping in Cornwall.
Im afraid Hook Farm has become a victim of its own success. Granted it was half term but the site was packed, we felt like we were in the middle of a 'where's wally' picture! This site has gone from a quaint farm to a commercial site where you are even told exactly where to park.
I enjoy the freedom of camping so was disappointed when the lady at reception read out the camp rules to me and then handed them to me in writing.
They also tried to charge me £24 for a small tent which I questioned (we only paid £17 a night in Cornwall for a top notch site complete with kids swimming pool) so they dropped it to £19.
Toilets are clean but full of cobwebs which isn't great if you are scared of spiders! There is a nice playground but its right next to main drive into the site, which could be a little dangerous.
The location is still wonderful and the Talbot Arms pub (within walking distance) serves good pub grub at reasonable prices.

Showers were lovely and hot regardless of time of day, as mentioned previously, you get 4.5 minutes, it's amazing how quickly you can shower in that time! Lots of space on the pitch we were allocated. Free use of freezers in the washing up area to freeze packs.
Very quiet and obviously very dark at night (being a 'Dark Valley'). Was considering visiting again in August but the tariff put us off.
Didn't go with children, not sure how long the facilities provided for children would entertain them for. As mentioned already, the pub at the end of the road serves good pub grub, and the portions are large.
