From the moment you arrive at Hook Farm you are treated like a welcome guest.
This peacful site is very well, but pleasantly, supervised, with any queries or problems being attended to immediately.
The clever use of terracing on the sloping ground gives everyone flat and generous pitches, and the views of the surrounding valley are truly beautiful.
Facilities are excellent and always cleaned to a high standard.
Children and dogs are equally welcome, with a children's play area including a boat, and an enclosed orchard where dogs can run free- very rare!
The shop is well equipped with camping requirements and carries basic food supplies, however, there is also an excellent village shop at the local garage, a short distance down the lane.
There are also designated pizza and curry nights hosted by visiting caterers.
Plenty of local information is available including weather and astronomical updates for this 'Dark Sky 'valley.
As experienced campers we wish we had found this site years before and have no hesitation in re-booking for next year.

I enjoyed a few nights stay at this well kept, fairly quiet site, just a short hop away from Lyme Regis. The site is on a hill but pitches are flat. The shop is handy, and was very useful when my airbed decided to break! The walk is pleasant down into Lyme by the river, and there is a bus service too. The pub at the bottom of the road is ok, but menu very limited. The shower block was clean but only 3 showers which can be a problem.

Lovely site, not set out in rigid rows but more informally which adds to the atmosphere. On quite a steep hillside but almost all pitches are on level terraces. If you want evening sun ask for a pitch at the top of the hill. Don't forget your torch it is pitch black at night even on site. Amenities blocks good, and adequate shop. Only problems were access, the narrrow road in is quite steep and stressful! Disappointed we couldn't take our dog as she is a Staffie and so a banned breed at the site, bit narrow minded as some other dogs there were definitely not well behaved. Very international site and at times we felt like foreigners! Local pub, Talbot Arms very poor, limited choice of menu, tables frequently booked in advance, heaven knows why. Pub seems to be run by students, dirty tables, glasses not cleared and nowhere to sit to just have a drink unless you go outside. This pub could and should be an absolute goldmine, we saw the land lady once, she commented on how dark it was but left our empty dishes when she went! Unfortunately it appears to be the only pub in the village.

Lovely site cut into the hills a few miles from the coast. Each pitch is generous and cut flat as a terrace making for a really picturesque view. Absence of caravans makes a welcome change, had a really chilled vibe where we were. A couple of toilet blocks so you'll always be close and whilst they're not huge there weren't any queues. Generally they're clean and tidy, only to be improved if they had squeeguees and disinfectant in each shower cubicle. 20p for 4 mins of hot shower time is plenty. No campfires allowed but crank up the BBQ and its the same effect for bat watching. For an inland site it didn't suffer too badly from insects due to absence of lake/streams.
There is a small playground for the little ones but its a bit limited for over-7's. However, there is space for ball games and general play. The shop is well stocked and staff friendly. Perfect setting for a car trip (or long walk up/down the hill) to Lyme Regis. This was our first visit to that part of Dorset and we would definitely revisit, beach is good for swimming and beginner body boarding - sand at low tide, pebbles up top. Site is actually in Devon but LR is Dorset so you are right on the border with the fantastic Jurassic coast stretching along to the east. Lyme is pretty crammed so park at the newly extended long stay on the eastern side of town for £2 all day and walk back 5 mins to the centre and beach.
There are CoOp and Tesco Express in Lyme for provisions. We didn't sample the local pub this time but its only 5 mins from the site so pretty convenient.

Just come back from a short break at Hook Farm, first visited this camp site in 2003 Adrian and his wife had just bought the site it was very basic but nice. Going back last weekend was great to see Adrian and there family whose daughter is now 12, campsite is now fantastic still keeping the lovely feel of peace and tranquillity and great views they have put great terraces in which are very flat Toilets are great and nice to see a small well stocked shop. Site has a nice pub at the end of road and we walked to Lyme one day and to the Viaduct at back of campsite train used to run at back of site, Will be visiting again maybe September

Just returned from a few days of tranquil camping at Hook Farm. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The site is tucked away over looking the valley of Uplyme and is just a 40 minutes walk from the centre of Lyme Regis. The pitch we were shown to was very generous in size. It's peaceful there and the facilities are well maintained and clean. I'm sure we will return again sometime. A lovely spot to escape the hustle and bustle of town life.

Firstly, the site. The site is in a kind of dip/hillside and offers one or two nice views. It is an attractive site with lots of terraces to enable tents to be pitched, or vehicles parked.
There are two toilet blocks, one of which was closed for part of our stay. Each was divided men/women, with an area housing a washing machine. On the men's side there were 4 urinals, 4 toilets and just 3 showers in one block, 2 in the other. Showers were operated by inserting 20p for a 4-min. Shower. There was one hand-dryer and one hair-dryer (20p required).
We were told by other campers that the lowest point of the site was prone to flood in heavy rain, but did not experience this in a bout of heavy rain.
There was a children's play area.
The shop on site was opened at odd hours and served just basics.
What I didn't like was the lack of a restaurant/cafe on site, as I think camping has moved on from a fight with nature! The nearest pub in Uplyme was via a downhill walk (1/4 mile)and whilst it serves food it does not do so on a Monday. On Sunday they have a lunchtime carvery and this seems essential to book. Sadly, for me anyway, the beer, Otter, was NOT for me.
It was a short walk into Lyme Regis where there were some cafes, coffee stops and a few pubs offering food.
We went only for 5 nights, but left a day early as rain was forecast on our last morning and we did not want to suffer a wet tent, as check-out was 11am.
The site and location were not for us, but others we spoke with had been before and likely to return. As I indicated, I think camping has moved on and I want better facilities around us

Nice campsite in a superb location, but spoilt by an extremely officious warden. On arrival there was a slightly bizarre read through of the rules and regulations, which I was fine with, but then the way they're enforced is OTT. We were sat in our awning, chatting quietly (and I mean quietly - there were people snoring louder in their tents) when the warden turned up and virtually told us to go to bed.
Over the next few days there were other slightly odd complaints from the same warden over very minor things. We just smiled and nodded, but it's a shame that they didn't concentrate on more important things like resupplying toilet roll, keeping the facilities clean at busy times and other essentials.
Shame because the location and site layout were lovely.

We stayed here in our VW Camper at Easter - a lovely terraced site with electric hook ups, clean facilities and friendly staff. The site is quite quiet and family friendly and a great base to walk into Lyme Regis (which took us 45-60 mins) along the side of a river. A short walk away is the Talbot Arms pub which serves food and seems popular. I'd recommend this camp site and would certainly go again.

Access to this site is up a narrow lane. We were allocated a level pitch on a hard standing with our own designated grassed area. Toilets, showers and wash up area very clean. Local shop on site. Staff very friendly. A lovely walk down to Lyme Regis. Ask staff for directions, very easy. However coming back is all uphill, with last bit to the site being the hardest. We couldn't get a taxi, so had no choice! We did the walk there and back each day though! Would certainly recommend this site.
