I felt that this was a site that I really should have loved, but came away not being totally enamoured by Hook Farm.
The views are fantastic; it is an attractive site, spacious pitches and large shower block, so why do I only give 5 or 6 out of 10? I think it might be the reading of the site rules as you book in, called a Health & Safety briefing. I work in H&S and most things are not H&S issues, but rules.
I understand that sites need rules, but regular campers know what they are and abide by them, and the prices at Hook Farm will keep any potential young revellers away. Being read the rules on arrival just makes you think you’re being watched and could be ejected at any moment.
The sense of being watched is also not helped by the terraced layout of the site, giving the feeling that any campers up the hill are peering down on you.
Toilets were not always particularly clean, this maybe unfair as I was at the site during the uncommonly hot October weekend where unexpected numbers swamped the site, but the second facilities remained shut throughout. Plus why no ceiling, it makes the block look unfinished.
Before the crowds arrived work was being down on many of the pitches by a heavy tractor which shattered our peace and one lady member of staff really was not very friendly.
A bit of a moan I know about nothing that is particularly earth shattering, buts it’s the little things that make a site feel good, bad or just average and this site very much sits in the latter category.

We had a lovely one night stay here in September in our small tent. Location is superb - fantastic for Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast. Quiet unspoilt spot - just lovely and easy to find - well signposted from main road! The facilities were very good, absolutely spotless and I saw cleaning going on twice there.
The pitch we were given was on a slight slope and the ground was very stony (I think where they had levelled off) which meant it was impossible for anyone in the top field to get their pegs in, this wasn't a problem for us as we were there on a dry, still day but if windy you might want to check you have an easier pitch
It is a bit pricier than some sites but I felt overall offered good value for money and didn't mind paying more. The team working there were friendly and polite - we did however buy a torch from the shop which only worked for about 10 mins though - don't rely on the shop!

Visited Hook Farm at the end of August this year. We are a family of 2 adults and a 14 yr old boy and 12 yr old girl. It was lovely! The area is stunning, the campsite is stunning, the caravan was stunning! The stars are amazing - we all saw shooting stars! This was our first time in a caravan, we usually camp. The site is very clean and really well looked after. The owners were very hospitable and welcoming. On site shop had pretty much everything you need (no off licence though!).
Would recommend the walk from the site to Lyme Regis along the river - even that was stunning! Would NOT recommend the local pub for food - over priced, do not go there for food! Would also recommend a mackerel fishing trip with Harry from the harbour.
All in all a very enjoyable stay and we'll be back!

The site seemed very crowded to us after the much quieter French campsites we had been visiting in the previous weeks, but I guess that's to be expected at the end of the school holidays! There were a lot of children so for people without children it could have been too noisy.
The playground was always too busy for our boys to get to use it, but we weren't at the campsite all that much. The facilities were good (although as it was so busy, I noticed that there were some queues for the two showers in the shower block in the mornings).
The people running the site were very friendly and the shop was useful.
One small gripe was that having been told that the Lym valley was a designated dark valley and that we should use torches at night, the light on the shower block was so bright that it was very intrusive at night.
I was looking forward to a really dark night! Also, for the price, it would have been quite nice to have free WiFi provided.

My criteria when searching for sites this time was primarily to find somewhere that would provide peace & quiet (our previous trip had been the worst experience ever!) and I was really pleased with the reviews of Hook Farm that said how controlled it is.
Some reviews say that they are too controlling and you get a big list of rules & regulations when you arrive, and this did worry me a bit, but I've got to say I couldn't be happier with the site (well, maybe if it was a bit cheaper)
When we arrived and checked in the staff were all very helpful and seemed happy, yes you get a list of rules but it's nothing outrageous and nothing that considerate campers wouldn't do anyway. We were led straight to a lovely pitch, IMHO it was the best pitch in the place, in a corner where we felt separated from other campers with a lovely view across the valley.
The facilities were clean, 20p for 4 minutes in the shower was more than enough (I think the woman get 5 minutes due to a possible delay in the hot water) and the cubicles were large enough that I could be in there with my two kids and have one in the shower whilst drying the other. The shop stocks most things you might need.
The children's play area is small but functional, it acted as a central meeting point and you couldn't keep my kids away from it when we were back at the site (as long as it is before 8. 30pm).
And yes, it all goes quiet around 10. 30pm - 11pm, people still sit and talk, but they do it considerately, not like they are sitting in a pub.
In summary, this is one of only two sites that we've been to that we'd consider going back to.

We stayed at Hook Farm on a busy August bank holiday weekend. We arrived late, after dark and relied on friends that were already staying there to guide us up the very narrow Gore Lane and site us, as the office was closed. We have quite a large motorhome, and even though there are a couple of passing places, the lane is very steep, narrow and not for the faint-hearted.
The site mainly caters for tents and small campervans, there are electric hook-ups on the pitches, but all are grass, with no hardstanding and no fully serviced pitches. There is a pot washing and laundry area, with 2 toilet blocks. The one nearest to us had 3 showers at a 20p charge, with piping hot water, but dated and constantly had a queue until mid morning.
There is a children's playground, a great dog walk, very helpful staff and a shop on site selling food, supplies and gas.
Walk down the lane and there is the Talbot pub, with a couple of beer gardens, great food and real ale, but a pity they don't allow dogs in, as bizarrely they have 2 of their own in the pub lounge.
A bus stops down the lane or you can take a pleasant 45min walk along the river to Lyme Regis.
All in all the site is in an ideal location, but we found £31 per night far too expensive for the basic facilities that were on offer.

A lovely site with trees and terraced pitches. In a great location within walking distance of Lyme Regis, down a pretty path by a stream. Well placed for visiting locally.
Facilities plentiful, clean and modern; showers, wash up sinks, washers and dryers, some recycling facilities too!
Staff here are fantastic, couldn't be more helpful and cheerful. We mentioned some noisy campers near to us and a quiet word was had straight away.
Overall excellent. One word of caution, this site is very popular with families with quite young children, you have to rely on the parents to be considerate.
We will be visiting again, but will avoid the school holidays.

A site in a prime location being just over a mile from Lyme Regis and this is reflected in the high prices,
paid £54 for two nights for two with ehu, that said the site was in a very secluded valley surrounded by trees with many terraced pitches and the toilets/showers were spotless however this incurred further costs with a shower taking 20p coins.
Thought the staff worked tirelessly and were helpful. The town can be walked to in 30 mins, we walked from the rear of the site via the coastal footpath.
The Talbot pub down the hill does Otter real ales and had a beer festival on so there was no normal menu on suggesting it may be better to check before visiting for food.
The hourly bus service stops near this pub to Lyme Regis and beyond.

Excellent camp site, well run, clean and well managed by owners.
Really good welcome from owners. Also dog friendly with additional dog exercise area in orchard.
Good on site facilities - shop, toilets, showers all excellent. Even have a stock of bricks for doing barbecues without scorching the grass. Remember your 20p coins for the showers. Lovely quiet location, plenty of space.
Site does not take credit/debit cards or remember your cash.
Nice walsk from camp site, especially down to Lyme via River Lym walk.
Would stay there again.

Just had a great week here and have to say that its the best site we have been on, the staff are excellent and the reception is as good as your very own tourist info,
The shower and toilet block are very clean. The pitches are booked to accommodate the size of your unit so are very spacious, but a little stony about 4 inches down the
Shop is ok and you can get your essentials ie newspaper milk bread
The walk into lymn is very nice too,
Would love to go back here but like to go to different locations but its so nice may just have to return
Ps we have no kids but the little playground looked ok the site was very quiet too
