After a long week at this site with amazing weather. So glad that we picked this campsite. We had stayed here before for a long weekend a few years ago and were so impressed by it we picked it for our first family holiday. We had a great pitch by the shower block with lovely views. The showers are 20p for 4 mins which is plenty of time very clean and good temperature. The site is nice to work round with a small playground for kids from 4-5 up. It is a bit steep to get too the top if you have kids I would recommend that you ask for a pitch at the bottom of the site plenty of room for them too run round.

It is within easy access of Lyme Regis and short drive to Axminster and only an hour from Weymouth making it really well located. It might be a bit more than expensive than your normal sites but its well worth the little extra for all that you get. I cannot begin to say how amazing the staff are. We where stayed with my in laws who had a caravan next to our tent. Which my mother in law who is a Permanent wheel chair user, which can make things hard when it come to some campsites. But from the out set they told us that they don't really cater for wheel chair users, but there where no problems with her getting about, it was all level from our pitch by the shower block. They were more than willing to help at anytime even offering to help my father in law take there awning down when they left. They made sure that the wheel chair accessible showers where in good order since they had never been used. They went out of there way to make sure she was well looked after. We are all so very thankful too all the staff for all they did for use and will be sure to come back again. Only a shame the rating does not go up too 11!

Overall a pleasant site with some lovely views, with 10/10 for friendly and extremely helpful staff.

Nice easy walk into Lyme takes about 25 mins, walk back up to Hook Farm is the steep bit!

However for the price £18 for a small tent thought it expensive especially as the toilet block in the lower camping field was extremely dated and the showers unhygienic - wooden shower plinths were old and black. Only two washing up sinks so at times had to queue.

The newer shower facilities at the top of the site were great with more sinks etc. So obviously these were the nicer ones to use.

Therefore, probably won't return due to cost and older shower block.

Hook Farm is a very welcoming & friendly campsite, right from my first email communications with them back in February to our leaving the site at the end of our stay. The site wardens were always around if needed and the shop/reception was open for a lot of the day.

We stayed for a week (22nd-29th June) and had a lovely time.

Although the site has some rules, this was a bonus to us and a deciding factor in our staying there. They aren't over-officious & certainly didn't feel the need to spend a long time reading us the rules - maybe we looked the sorts who wouldn't cause trouble :) and having rules means you tend to get better behaved, considerate campers.

The site has a lot of flint in the ground so there were a couple of bent pegs and occasionally having to re-try putting the pegs in due to locating stones but we managed it just fine and had a perfect spot for the view across the valley.

There are 2 toilet blocks - the older one was closer to us but as there were not so many campers on site for a lot of the time we were there, this was closed for most of the week. This, however, was not a problem as it wasn't much of a trek to the newer block & as we had specifically requested a quiet pitch, we were fully expecting to be further away from the toilet block. Both blocks were kept spotlessly clean and all showers/sinks/toilets etc kept in full working order.

The showers were 20p for around 4 and a half minutes, which was just about enough but 5 minutes would have been ideal. I didn't mind paying as it's not a fortune & it prevented long queues on a morning - in fact I only had to queue once, for 10 seconds!

It was also 20p to use the hairdryer, I don't know the exact time it lasts but I needed to use 40p to dry my hair the one time I used it. There is a plug next to the hairdryer, which also costs 20p - I used it for my straighteners & that seems to last for a long time - I didn't need to use more than 20p worth and it takes me ages! :)

The on-site shop is a little pricey but handy for any essentials you may have forgotten. Although I found it odd that the only fresh milk available was in bottles - this isn't very handy when camping as once opened they are difficult to store in a coolbag without spillage. We just re-used the plastic container from the supermarket milk we'd taken with us. There is also a shop at the local garage in the village of Uplyme, a short walk away.

Walking into lovely Lyme Regis itself was easy. It was about a 2 mile walk along the riverbank and although some of it was a little muddy, it wasn't a difficult trek, in fact it was very pleasant.

We got the bus back to the campsite on only 2 occasions as we enjoyed the walk so much.

All in all, I would definitely recommend the site & would love to go back in future.

I liked it! Hook farm have a real handle on customer service and they go to every effort for its campers. The facilities are spotless, the grounds are well kept. Down the road you can get some supplies, in my case coffee and fags from the local petrol station which doubles as a post office.

The weather was a beaut so I decided to sleep outside my tent, my morning alarm was waking up to the sound of hundreds of birds chirping in the surrounding woodland.

The pitches are perfect, the staff friendly and helpful and the weather was a great.

Nice site apart from being up a steep hill. The weather was great while we were there so don't know if it gets waterlogged. It was also a quiet week so not crowded. Ground was very stony so hard to get the pegs in.

I agree that 20p for 4 mins of shower is cheeky (luckily our daughter wasn't with us as that would have been £1 a go). Make sure you are not first in or the first 1m 30s is cold (7 1/2 p or 1/6 for cold water). Had to put a second 20p in and waste 2 mins of water.

Pub is not good for vegetarians but the beer is good.

Don't follow the advice to go up Gore Lane to get to Lyme-the single track road is very busy and you will be stopping and reversing all the time. Use the main road and then double back to the car park.

 Interesting site.

Pros:

Quiet

Large clean shower blocks

Easy walk into Lyme Regis and on hourly bus route

Attractive site

Friendly helpful staff

Pub close by (but not dog friendly)

Cons:

Lots of rules

Expensive £72 for 2 nights but you still have to pay 20p for shower.

Shower blocks massive but lots of wasted space and No apparent heating so you feel very cold when showering

Electric for our part of site tripped out both nights we were there

Overall would we return - prob yes

Just want to say that we had a lovely 3 nights at Hook Farm. They even lent me a tent when I forgot to bring my tent poles. Wife was not happy!

All the Hook Farm personnel were friendly and very helpful. The site itself was kept in excellent conditions, everything was clean and in good working order. If I had a minor complaint it would be that in the old shower block the water flow in the showers runs very slowly if more than one shower is in use. I hasten to add that the new shower block is lovely and I'm told that the showers don't have any flow problems.

Our two children had a lovely time playing around the site. The playground, although small, was thoroughly enjoyed.

Lyme Regis is a short walk away which our 4 and 6 year old managed no problem. This gives you the opportunity to leave your car at the site and still enjoy the beach, fish and chips and lots of lovely pubs and restaurants.

A great 3 days. Thank you.

Just stayed here for the weekend and the campsite has both pros and cons.

Unfortunately I am going to start with the cons as I feel this for me was the definitive part of our camping experience at Hook Farm!

Rules, rules, rules.

Upon arrival you will be taken through every rule that the site has on a piece of laminated card and Boy oh boy must you obey by them! You will then be taken to your pitch and explained the rules again, lines you must not cross, where your vehicles must be parked etc, etc.

We had one night where It rained all evening so we decided to go into Lyme Regis for a meal. We managed to get a taxi back at around 11:30pm and as the taxi pulled up on the campsite the cab driver insisted that, as it was raining he would drop us off at our tent rather than let us walk from reception.

No sooner had we got out of the taxi and thanked the driver than there was a campsite warden (of which there are many) shouting at us and shining a torch in our faces, telling us that there are no Taxis on site after 11pm and telling us to be quiet.

We were making no noise at all but the chap obviously clearly upset that we had broken one of the fundamental rules (which were not on the list by the way)

The next two consecutive night we went out (fishing) and advised the warden that out of respect we would park at reception and walk to our tent by torch-light so not to disturb any campers. We arrived back at the campsite at around midnight. The same guy on both nights was waiting outside his static home and was on us before we had switched the engine off and telling us to be quiet! This guy seems to spend his time chasing people around the site quoting from the rule book and he is very rude with it!

The pros for this site is that it is:-

Clean and well presented.

Nice clean toilet block with solar panels which provide light and hot water.

Large pitches.

Well stocked site shop.

Nicely positioned in Up-Lyme away from the hustle and bustle.

Nice little play area for the children.

Unfortunately dispute having been here a few times, the experience we had this time means that they have lost the business of at least two families and a poor review.

If you are prepared to pay a premium for a campsite that doesn't have large, rowdy groups, then this site is well worth a visit. Adrian and his team work tirelessly to ensure everyone has an enjoyable stay. The pitches are well laid out and the terraces give the site a more intimate feel than a large, flat field.

Some of the facilities could do with updating but they were always kept clean and I never had to queue.

The bus into Lyme was a real bonus and there were so many good places to eat that we left the 'camping chef' at home for our last visit!

Nice enough site, well managed with friendly and helpful staff (although we didn't need the list of rules going through in that much detail). Pleasant walk down to the seafront, if a little mucky after the rain, but would recommend the bus service as it's a very hilly area.

The pitches are fairly level and set up in 'mini fields' giving a cosy feel to the site. Good little play area for the kids. Shower/toilet blocks are very nice and kept clean.

Only gripe is the price. We stopped on 3 other sites on this year's road trip, all with the same level of service and in much better locations and Hook Farm cost around half as much again as any of the others (20p for a 4minute shower as well, that's just cheeky!)

Would certainly go to Lyme Regis again (really good mixed grill at the Cobb Arms) but wouldn't stop at Hook Farm unless they dropped their prices, which is a shame.
