My family & I have just returned from a 5 night stay at Hook Farm. I have mixed feelings about the site and these are as follows,
The good points:
Beautiful location with lovely views, Quiet site, Generous sized pitch, Shower / toilet block clean and tidy, polite staff. If you are after a nice quiet site with great scenary then this site ticks all the boxes.
The not so good points:
Paying for shower was not a problem but the fact that it took one and a half minutes until the water was warm enough to use and the water being on a five minute timer did make me feel agrieved. However I was refunded for the two showers where this happened.
No heating in shower block (really noticable as the weather was really cold. Also no ceiling which meant that cold air was able to circulate the whole building from outside.)
Hand dryer in gents toilet block not blowing warm air (only cold and not effective)
Footpath running through the site crosses grass plateau where two pitches are disected by it.
The shop was closed during the length of our stay. In fairness to Terry who was running the park at the time, he said that if we found him he would open the shop for us. As there were only three pitches being used when we arrived, I can see Terrys point but I think It would of made more sense to open the shop at a set time for prehaps 1/2 hour each day so that if we wanted to purchase items we could have done so. There were times when I looked for Terry but could not find him.
Also be aware that if you require to use the chemical disposal point then you will need to pay a £5 deposit for the use of a key.
Lyme regis and surrounding area is very picturesque. The river walk to the sea front was also enjoyable.
All in all the site is set in a good location however we felt that some of the ammenities were lacking.
I chose this site on the strength of other visitors reviews and must say I was slightly dissapointed with the park in its current state. However the park has potential and is at the moment still being upgraded.

We stayed slightly out of season, so the site was very peaceful and half empty. Perhaps the two well-maintained toilet blocks get rather busy when the campsite if completely full?
You can hear the main road several hundred metres away but other than that, it was a very quiet campsite with no rowdiness or late night noise.
The views are really good over the surrounding hills. The little pub at the end of the road has a nice cosy atmosphere and ofcourse Lyme Regis is an easy ten minutes drive away.
The owners were friendly and welcoming. I would stay here out of season again.

Owner Adrian was very enthusiastic and helpful when we telephoned to book for three nights over the Easter Weekend. He was not concerned when we called on Friday morning to say that we would not be arriving that night after all. I said that we would pay for the night, of course, but he told me not to worry (and he didn't charge for the Friday). Good website and easy to find.
On site, Adrian and Terry were very jolly and helpful.
The facilities are excellent - lots of hot water in the newly refurbished showers (a generous and more-than-ample 5 minutes for 20p), very clean loos - lots of them.
We had a great Saturday evening meal at the local Talbot Arms pub (five minutes walk from the campsite). Most tables were reserved - we arrived early and managed to getr a table before 7.00am.
Lovely location, under five minutes drive into Lyme Regis.
Quiet, clean campsite.
We will be back!

We stayed for 4 nights at Hook Farm and it was great. Nice big pitch, hot and clean toilet block and showers and a very useful little shop for morning milk, bacon, bread and pastries. Adrian, the owner and Terry his assistant were more than helpful and always cheerful. The walk down to Lyme Regis goes through the woods alongside a stream and brings you right out in the middle of Lyme and then you can catch the 31 bus back (we did this three times!), the children loved it. The pub at the bottom of the hill is ok, we only stopped there for a drink with the children. There are some great beaches around, we only visited Branscombe and Sidmouth bit were very impressed with both. On our last day Adrian let us pack up and then for a small fee we left our packed car at Hook Farm whilst we went down into Lyme for the day, which was really helpful. We will definitely return to Hook Farm in the future.

Have spent two short holidays at this campsite this year. One was a five night stay in June when it rained everyday and the other was a 3 night stay over the August Bank Holiday. We came away on both occasions with very positive views and feelings about this campsite.
The site is well laid out with terraced pitches of varying sizes. Some have a degree of cover/hedging around the edge of the pitches. The upper pitches in particular have lovely views. At night the site is very dark, allowing a great view of the night sky. We saw shooting stars and satellites whizzing overhead as well as uncountable numbers of stars. During our second stay, the site was full up but, thanks to the thoughtful layout, did not feel overcrowded. The owners are very clear about the main site rules and go through them with you on arrival, which we thought was very helpful. They make it quite clear that there should be no undue noise after 11pm. In fact there was rarely any noise after 10pm. It was still possible to sit up, having several night-caps, late into the night and enjoy some sparkling repartee, without making too much noise about it. We liked the fact that they point out the boundaries of your pitch. It felt good to know this and stops one feeling annoyed when neighbouring campers pitch their tents too close, as can happen on sites with a ‘pitch it where you like’ attitude. The campsite’s attitude towards dogs is great. They make it clear on their website that certain types of dog are not welcome and enforce the rule about keeping dogs on a lead.
The facilities were fine. The toilet/shower block we used was clean and well maintained. The shop sold enough basic foodstuffs etc to get by. We do not expect campsites to have a mini-supermarket etc as we find that we can travel to decent supermarkets quite easily. The children’s play area was very basic but it gave the children a place to congregate. Our pitch was right next to the play area and kids being kids, it was sometimes a bit noisy but that was not a problem. This campsite will suit anyone looking for a quiet, family-orientated holiday. If you want to camp in a caravan big enough to sleep a football team and have a social club to drink in, with noisy arcades, games machines and stinky take-away shops selling poorly cooked food then this is not the site for you. We had booked a table at the Talbot Arms, (at the bottom of Gore Lane) for 7.30pm on the night of our arrival. The pub telephoned us late that afternoon to say they could not allow the table to remain empty from 6.30pm when they started doing food until 7.30 when we were due to arrive. We felt this showed the pub to be interested in meeting their needs rather than meeting the needs of customers and we did not set foot in there for the entire stay. We spent our money elsewhere. This is a great campsite and we will definitely return next year.

We stayed at Hook farm for a lovely 4 nights in April. I have to say that the campsite is excellent. The pitches are marked out unobtrusively but with plenty of space for both a car and a tent and room to cook etc. We were on the top field, which is slightly sloped although this didn't cause us any problems. The toilet block is fantastic and obviously quite new. Everything was very clean and there were more than enough toilets and 3 showers (I didn't have to wait once). In the shower cubicles, there is enough space to change easily and you don't have to worry about splashing your clothes. It was 20p for about 5 minutes (the timer made it easy to see how much longer you had left). I believe the men's shower gave you less time - it was explained that they are closer to the tank and so got hot water for longer, whereas it takes longer for the women's water to heat up. However, the temperature of all of my showers was perfect from the start. The area is beautiful and an easy drive to nearby Lyme Regis (or an even more pleasant walk). Just watch out for those hills! The pub at the bottom of the hill served lovely food although BE WARNED! Neither the campsite nor the pub would take cards and we had barely enough cash for a meal. There is one cash point in the village - in the garage, although it charges you and the garage wasn't even open when we tried. (the campsite was very amenable and allowed us to pay them after we had made a trip to Lyme Regis.) So make sure you take plenty of cash with you! All in all, an excellent stay and I can't wait to go back!

My wife and I have just returned from this site after 3 weeks holiday. It is every bit as good as it was last year (see previous review) except that this year the reception/shop is completed and running, stocking most of the things you require, bread, milk, biscuits etc. The site had suffered slightly from the bad weather and when we arrived on 30/06/07 the bottom part of the site was closed off due to flooding, but this lasted only a few days when the rain stopped the site dried out very quickly. The facilities on the site are still in good order, I noticed that the hot water now lasts through the early morning rush, and both of the toilet blocks are kept clean and tidy. There is a pub at the bottom of the lane from the site - The Talbot Arms - which serves food, which whilst good, did not appeal to our tastes. We found the Hunters Lodge, on the A35 about a mile away, far superior. Excellent food, local beers, first class service and comprehensive wine list!

Arrived a day late due to tent being eaten by mice, not the sites fault but the first thing the owner Adrian did was refund one days fee! A good way to make a good impression. A great site, pitch was spacious and relatively level. Toilets very clean, done twice a day. Was horrified when 50 school kids arrived, as far as we were concerned with no warning, raised this with Adrian who apologised for not telling us, we don't hate kids but choose not to be in with a party of that size, In fairness to them they behaved themselves but made the new shower bloke a no no at peak times so I chose to use the older block which was fine. Small shop in village for papers etc or the Tesco in Axminster for more in depth requirements. All in all an enjoyable stay and will return one day.

Stayed here, along with my girlfriend, my brother and his wife, for 8 nights during what can only be described as local monsoon season. Unfortunately weather was horrendous for most of stay, but due to the location of our pitch we found ourselves well sheltered from the wind and rain. Had two pitches with electric hook-ups and there was plenty of room on the pitch for our tent (which is rather large).
Site facilities are fairly basic, there are two toilet blocks, one of which is only open over the weekend period. If you're camping in the lower fields, then it's quite a trek up to the other block. That said, the toilets and shower areas were kept clean and I found that 20p for 5 minutes in the shower was more than enough. The showers even had a timer on them so you knew how long you had left (no more soapy hair, with no water to rinse).
The shop sold very basic supplies, and is only open for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening. There is a garage just down the road however, which sold a larger variety of supplies, or at worst, the Co-op in Lyme Regis is only a few minutes drive away.
When pitching the tent, the ground seemed very rocky (luckily we had rock-breaker pegs), yet after all the water we had, plus a constant thoroughfare of traffic walking back and to between the tents, it became VERY boggy VERY quickly.
Lovely walk down the river into Lyme Regis which takes about 40 minutes. Friendly pub called the Angel on the way. The local pub at end of the lane seemed very sociable, and allowed dogs into the bar area. (As did most pubs in the area) The owner of the site seemed a bit miserable upon arrival, although he seemed much more sociable later in the week (maybe it was the bad weather). His wife also seemed very pleasant. The park warden who showed us to our pitch was extremely friendly, and was wiling to help wherever possible.
Overall a highly enjoyable holiday, apart from the weather, and would recommend this site to people who are looking for a relaxing, peaceful and quiet holiday. (But do suggest trying to book it during sunny weather, or else take your wellies).

A very nice site in a very nice location. Lovely views of the surrounding hills. Only a short drive to Lyme Regis itself, or a riverside walk if you fancy. Nice clean modern facilities and a more than helpful owner who guides you right into your pitch on arrive! Will definitely be visiting again!
