August 2005 We have just returned having spent 5 nights at this site; our first family camping holiday. It was a very enjoyable experience and the campsite was very good as far as we were concerned.
Yes 20p for a 4 minute shower seems a bit stingy but to be honest 4 minutes is actually a lot longer than we found we needed and metering the supply seems a reasonable way of preventing waste (and profit loss) by less considerate campers. Facilities were clean and modern and the site was quiet and well located for our needs (2 small children = beaches, beaches, beaches)
The shop is a dissapointment as it stocks very little but there is a large Tesco's at Axminster a couple of miles away.
We would definitely visit again.

August 2005 Just got back from this site; I couldn't agree more with the preceding reviews. Whatever problems there were last year have clearly been sorted out by the friendly and helpful owners. A fine campsite in a stunning setting.
We had a great stay, helped by perfect weather. Nothing to add to previous comments, no complaints whatsoever. The only suggestion I'd make is that the shop could easily hold a greater range of stock, not necessarily of the perishable variety if that's an issue.

August 2005 Spent a night at Hook Farm last week as part of a walking trip. The site was busy but basically well-managed by friendly staff, and the layout encouraged a friendly atmosphere. Showers were metered but OK, though washing up space was a bit limited for so many people so you had to choose your moment. The on-site shop sold fresh bottled milk - really useful for us as we didn't have a vehicle. The pub nearby had slightly disappointing food (everything with chips) and atmosphere, but was handy for cheap grub and had Sky sports on a large screen TV!

July 2005 We booked this site only the week before going to stay as it was only a last minute decision to go camping. All that previous good weather had swayed us but unfortunately for us, our few days turned out to be a bit damp!! Having read the other reviews for this site I have to admit that I was expectng the worst but despite others being so disappointed we found the site to be absolutely fine.
The site wasn't completely full when we stayed and we had a great pitch at the top of the field overlooking the fabulous views down the valley (pity it was obscured by the weather for some of our stay). The facilities were clean (despite the rain), in working order and didn't seem overstretched as there was plenty of loo paper - as someone who has camped in France and has always had to take their own this was great!
Admittedly you did have to pay 20p for a shower but my four and a half minutes were lovely and hot. The water for the washing-up sinks was hot too and the sinks even had plugs. The shop had most things that one would need (apart from dog food which we managed to forget!) but it wasn't far to go if you needed more than the basics. As mentioned in previous reviews there was a small play area but there were plenty of grassy areas available for people to play ball games and the like. The play area was really only for the smaller children athough my two aged 9 & 12 enjoyed it all the same.
Even though the weather was not the best, we made the walk from the campsite down the riverside path into Lyme Regis - it was lovely and would probably have been even prettier if the sun had shone, but never mind, that's what camping in this country is all about.
To sum up I would say that this was a good site and I would go back. It's definitely not an "all singing and dancing" site but I think that would spoil it. It's just a nice site, set in beautiful countryside near to the pretty town of Lyme Regis. Go for the peace and quiet, the lovely walks and the fossils.

July 2005 What a fantastic site and location, with very caring owners that make all the difference. Wonderful views from the top field, and lovely peaceful atmosphere, very well maintained and very clean toilet / shower blocks.
The owner makes every effort to cater for your requirements, ie private and suitable for small children, and exceeded all expectations - The small shop also has the personal touch and you can pre-book your bakery orders!
We enjoyed ourselved so much we went back again!

July 2004 We came to this site after having spent a week on a very windy and quite ordinary campsite in Cornwall. To come here for our 2nd week was an absolute joy! It's a beautifully quaint and well set-out campsite with fantastic tiered levels. We were given almost exclusive use of the topmost field so had more room than we knew what to do with!
The facilities of the site were excellent, the brilliant new bathroom block provides many generously-sized showers and toilets with endless hot water. The only thing I would say is don't even bother trying to go the their on site shop because they're rarely there when they said they would be. They do an ice pack freezing service but it was almost impossible to get at them as they are kept in the shop.

June 2005 Travelled 320 miles to site .On arrival was met by a very polite and helpful owner. We were shown to a large pitch with excellent views. The shower block and washing facilities. were very big and spotless. Found the local people very friendly . There was also alovely walk from the camp site to Lyme Regis along the river. All in all a very worthwhile journey.

May 2005 This was our second visit to Hook Farm and it was every bit as enjoyable the second time around. This time we came with another family and although it was a bank holiday and fully booked we had plenty of space and it never felt overcrowded.
(When we came off season last time it was almost like the kind of non-campsite, tent all alone in a field stuff I did as a child, which was wonderful.)
The landscape and views are stunning; point the front flap of your tent in the right direction and you'll begin each day with a spectacular vista. The woodland walk into Lyme is also a real joy. Lyme itself is an excellent base for a holiday in the South West, with a good mixure of cultural/historical interest, outstanding natural beauty and plenty of places for children (or adults) to romp around.
Even though the site was busy, I only had to queue for the shower once, and that was just a matter of minutes. The ground can be stony in places, but you can always get your tent pegs in with a hearty whack of a mallet/shoe/log.
This is a family run site, and the owners couldn't be more helpful. We'll definitely be visiting again.

June 2005 I have just returned from a weekend stay and this site seems to have improved (slightly) judging by previous reviews.
The toilet/shower block appeared to be fairly new and was very clean indeed. The hot water took a little while to get through but was worth the wait.
I have a reasonably large 4 man tent and the pitches were adequately sized and well grassed. However, the site was not exceptionally busy and it appeared that space may be at a premium when it is.
Despite the very small play area I have to agree with other reviewers that the site does seem to attract more than it's fair share of little perishers who seemed to be left to run wild around the entire camp - on this occasion with noisy cap guns! When many of them left on the Saturday, the owner decided the peace and quiet was too much to bear and got out his tractor mower! So not the most peaceful of weekends.
I did not use the shop since it was only open an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening, and judging by the view through the window of a couple of jars of coffee and two tins of something there was precious little to buy - however the village shop and post office is open 7 days a week and this is only a 5 minute walk away, as is The Talbot public house where excellent food is served with a smile and the natives are friendly - just one word of warning....it's a steep climb back up the hill to base camp.
On the whole a nice, friendly little site within walking distance of Lyme Regis...for the fit and healthy.

August 2004 Great location, potentially good facilities and pitches, but not recommended over a bank holiday. The campsite was way too crowded. There was a half hour wait to get in the showers and then no guarantee the water that you had paid for (showers are extra) would arrive, or worse, would continue after you’ve emptied half a bottle of shampoo over your head (that’s NO water not just no hot water!). The campsite owners consider this tough luck but will grudgingly refund your 40p if pressed.
They took our booking for 20, squeezed us in to an extremely small area, charged extra for a small cooking shelter regardless of the fact that all the other tents were midget size hike bivvies. They were, of course, happy to charge the same price for a small hike tent pitched 6 inches from the next (due to lack of space the cars had to be left in the carpark) as a family dome tent. Counting tents and collecting the money seemed to be higher priority than sorting any problems.
