Just returned from Blue Dolphin (BD) and we were quite apprehensive after booking and then reading the reviews posted for this site.

We had no problems, with electric (other than BD switching it on within 5 mins of a phone call to site security. It is a very hilly site and a lot of the pitches are uneven, but coped even with a 23ft unit.

Site is quiet on a night, toilets, showers, pot wash all kept clean.

We arrived on the Thursday to beat the Friday school run rush and by Friday night the site was full, however, we paid £99 for 4 nights and had all day and night entertainment for our 4 year old. We said there was enough to do to last at least a week if you have kids upto teenage years. You have to go into Haven site with your eyes open as you have to pay for the extras - but we paid £3.50 for lunch with 'Bradley Bear' absolutely Brill - and he came away with a lunchbox in with the price. Everything was well organised and controlled and the site has (we think) a new main complex. OK - there is is a burger king, a pizza shop, and a chippie (which is open rarely!. All ok in our eyes! We will be back!

Just returned from our 2nd break to Blue Dolphin, yes I said second.

Spent 10 nights, unfortunately the site was extremely busy Good Friday-Bank Holiday Monday but everywhere else would have been also. Instead of battling the crowds myself and my children Friday-Monday enjoyed the company of holidaying families staying at the same site, went for walks etc.

Facilities, well the pool could do with being bigger but the same as most sites they are always too small when it's busy. The changing facilities the same, but that happens at our local pool. The activities are £5/£6 which seems expensive when you're away but no more than our local pool/sports centre. Play area at the touring site then another near the main complex. Soft play area I think was open 12-4pm. Sports/activities area which has many activities on.

Showers, toilets etc - The cleaners do a sterling job trying to keep the showers/toilets clean on the touring site, unfortunately it's the users which make them messy (I mean why leave a poopy nappy on the floor? Some people are just vile! People allowing 3/4 year olds to the toilets on their own and to play in them etc)

Unfortunately there were 3 power cuts over the weekend, but this of course was probably not the sites fault. They did the best they could to get it back on ASAP. Caravans and tents with loads of lights, heaters heating the world, cooking stoves etc on it's bound to get overloaded (it was when people were back on site/late evening they mainly went off!) I still have no idea why people feel the need to try to overload ONE plug. Tent near to us was running a hob, grill, 3 heaters, stereo, laptop, TV and phone charger when it went off ???? Complete lack of common sense. They swiftly removed the trail of extension leads when it went off.

Shop is expensive, but Filey has a selection of local shops including 2 good butchers(and several owned by Dixons which stock some caravan items) then there is Scarborough not too far away if necessary. If you want takeaways many in Filey deliver to the site.

Overall, sorry but I can't blame Blue Dolphin entirely for the 'blips' when we were away. Many went home on Monday so it was back to being quiet enough to enjoy the facilities (inc many empty seats in the show bar) as we did until Thursday and no power cuts. Yes I do think they allow too many on site for the size of the facilities but most sites are the same now, they could definitely do with another decent size shower block for busier periods but most of the issues we had were down to visitors, not the site!

Staff are very helpful, polite and considerate, really good fun too when it was quieter so they could let their hair down a little.

We paid £200 for 10 nights, £20 a night for family of 5. Great value when you think about what you get for your money, CC site we tried to book was going to be that price with no facilities, pool, free entertainment etc etc.

We went to Blue Dolphin at Easter, for 3 nights.

1)the power went off at least six times, for an hour or more.

2)there was a generator running all day and night, powering the porta cabins(toilet block)

3)There was no CDP at the nearby toilets, the only one being at the top of the field, for 260 plus units.

4)There were tents pitched right next to our awning, when they are supposed to be 5M away.

5)Only 2 sinks had hot water in the gents.

6)there was no washing up area.

Need I carry on? Doubtless to say, we will not be going there again

We arrived Thursday lunch time and was given our welcome pack and rough directions to our pitch. We managed to park on the wrong side of the road but they didn't seem to have a problem with that. This was our first trip with the caravan and when we got there we thought it wasn't too bad, that was until Friday came when the masses arrived! They had 300 arrivals to the touring area, it was packed . They have 439 pitches and not the 279 stated here unfortunately. Totally agree with (Colin15250) below on the electric, what a pain this was, my 5 year old was gutted when the electric went off during the Dr Who special (thank heavens for repeats) Monday morning we had no electric in the shower block, so no hot water either. On the plus side for the shower block, we were in the centre part and used the purpose built shower blocks which were very clean. The wash up area was also kept clean but could do with a few more sinks. (There are currently four)

I wasn't overly impressed with the on-site shop, although it had most things it didn't really seem to have anything if that makes sense, and I did find it more expensive than the supermarket.

Again to agree with (Colin15250) below (The club house was packed by 6pm with nowhere to sit, and there was a private function going on in the second bar, and the queue was so long that even if you joined the back there was no way you would get a seat.) Also to get to the swimming pool you had to make your way through the amusements, nice one Haven 'NOT' ! The changing rooms for the pool are somewhat small for the amount of people using the pool.

The local area is lovely, we visited Scarborough, Filey and had a great time at Eden Camp in Malton

We arrived on Thursday evening at 7.15pm and the touring office was just closing, the lady gave me the welcome pack and rough directions to our pitch. When we got to the Superpitches there was no pitch numbers so we had to guess which one was ours. Although it was a super pitch it was not level. After levelling the van all was well until saturday at about 4pm, where the electric went off, me along with several others went down to the office where we were told someone was coming to fix it, at 7pm we still had no electric, then we saw someone playing with the electric box and was told it should be back on in half an hour. Yes it came back on then an hour late went off again, then some came back on where others were still off.

Overall it was our first and last time to Blue Dolphin Touring Site.

The club house was packed by 6pm with nowhere to sit,and there was a private function going on in the second bar, and the queue was so long that even if you joined the back there was no way you would get a seat.

All in all, the kids had a great time, but as for us adults never again.

Visited this site last weekend as we were able to obtain a great offer via their web site! On arrival all was a little confusing as someone was already on the pitch number which we were allocated, so we pitched at the side of them - this turned out to not be a problem, so all ok!

The pitch itself was pretty level, but the bordering hedge had been cut recently, therefore there were a lot of small fragments of wood remaining on the ground which became evident only after we had pitched the tent!

The toilet block was pretty clean with plenty of hot water. No plugs in any of the sinks though so tricky having a wash!

There was a little noise at night (a few people shouting and swearing on the way back from the club) but luckily seemed to soon die down.

The major comment however is in relation to the on site swimming pool. This pool (although free if you're staying on the site) was horrible. We went in with our 4 year old and really wanted to get out as quickly as possible. The water was very murky, with odd bits of grass floating, the pool was quite badly lit (about 3 of the lights were not on), and the changing room was very dirty (floor covered in mud, and some kind of soggy biscuit). I would not recommend this pool - if you want to swim pay and go somewhere else!

However, aside from the problems with the pool we had a good first camping trip for 2009 and this is a great base to explore the area which has loads to offer!

We arrived on Monday, so not their busiest day to check in. The lovely lady at the touring reception was rather flustered as people hadn't vacated and therefore freed up their pitches in time for incoming guests. Someone in the queue in front of me hadn't booked an electric pitch (an error when he booked online according to him) but she was so stressed she just told him to pitch it on one anyway. Caravans were pitching on hardstanding when they hadn't booked these pitches so that meant that there was a shortage of these for the people that had paid for them when they arrived. Check in was a total disorganised shambles. I was told that as the lower toilet block was out of order it would be wise to use the electric pitches near the upper toilet block. The 'lower toilet block' if that's what you can call it, was just a load of portakabins so quite relieved that they were closed. The upper toilets were no better. The only redeeming feature is that they were at least warm and in the sub zero temperatures this was a HUGE bonus. There was mould on the ceiling of the ladies shower block, due to poor ventilation. The showers were old, tired and not very clean. The toilets weren't much better. None of the sinks had plugs and the water temperature varied between too hot and too cold and just occasionally, if you were lucky, you'd get it just right. There was a ten pound refundable deposit for the key to the ladies but we were told at reception as the lock was a bit dodgy you'd have 'to wiggle it' to gain access. More often than not campers were relying on people already being in the shower block to let them in than the key actually working! Not good if you're desperate. I did see a cleaner a couple of times but evidence of any action was, how shall I put it, not obvious. Her equipment was significantly insufficient. I don't consider a bucket used to carry a cloth and some cleaning fluid to wipe down the sinks as adequate cleaning supplies for a shower block with a high volume of traffic such as this. The floors were definitely not cleaned all the time we were there and several of the showers were slow to drain which unfortunately you didn't realise until you were actually in them and were swimming in a shower tray full of someone elses hair which came back up the pipework. NICE! With only one hook on the back of the door and a flooded 'dry' area of the shower, getting washed was more of an olympic event than a normal daily routine.

The pitches were rather hit and miss. You could simply pitch wherever you wanted. Everything was SO disorganised I'm sure you could have just turned up, driven around and got an electric pitch having not paid a penny as there was never any evidence of wardens patrolling. We were lucky in so far as we had no trouble with neighbours but if things had been different I don't think anyone would have sorted the problem out. Haven's website asks the length of your unit when booking online and stipulates a maximum length of 21 feet but to be honest I think you could have turned up with the biggest tent on the market and pitched it wherever you liked as there was no definition between pitches, nor anyone to care for that matter. Given the weather we had (rain, hail, snow!) the pitches seemed to be draining away adequately but they were rather exposed to the elements which made packing away a challenge (understatement of the decade!)

The location of the touring site was quite a way from the main part of the park and almost felt like the poor cousin.

The onsite shop in the main complex had very limited supplies as it was the last week of the season and shelves which would normally have had food on them were filled with yet more Anxious Elephant cuddly toys. Not much good to cook on the barbeque though.

The pot washing facilities had NO plugs either. Do they have a plug snatcher on the loose in Filey?

We decided to avoid the facilities of the swimming pool after a fellow camper told us about their daughter surfacing with a safety pin lodged in her hair which she'd picked up whilst in there. Ok, so Haven can't be held responsible for someone else's carelessness but it really summed everything up about this park. We decided to leave a day early due to bad weather and when we tried to get a refund on our toilet block key touring reception was closed, in fact it was closed more than it was open. We had to ring a number for someone to come and open up to give us our deposit back.

The surrounding area on the other hand had plenty to offer with Filey, Bridlington, Scarborough and Whitby all within an hours drive. Eden camp (war museum) at Malton is well worth a visit if you have kids. We love the area as we honeymooned here 17 years ago so come back quite frequently and can't speak highly enough of the breathtaking scenery and lovely seaside towns.

Ideal if you drive a 4x4 and want to test how good it is in mud ruts and poorly maintained roads with bits missing and potholes!

Originally booked a superpitch but when we arrived I could not even get close to it with the state of the grass, superpitch concrete base would have only accommodated an 15ft van anyway (Whats super about that pitch??)

Eventually pulled on hard standing which was on a big slope and quite a trek off the road over muddy grass again.

The whole site was just a big muddy field on a slope with a road that was laid about 20 years ago, rubbish was everywhere, toilet and shower blocks where a disgrace.

A large site with a variety of hardstandings and grass pitches, few level pitches, most sloping.

Good facilities on the touring park. Plenty of toilets/showers etc, washing up area - childs playground. Very busy and active site during the day yet amazingly quiet at night.

I thought the general maintenance of the touring site was poor as bins were left full and overflowing, discarded tents and general rubbish left on vacant pitches.

A 5 minute walk to the main club complex which consists of the usual Haven standard facilities.

Very pleasant walk along the clifftops along the Cleveland Way is only 2 mins walk from the site.

Bus stop just outside the touring park giving easy access to Scarborough/Filey/Bridlington.

A very busy site which was excellent value for money and if the touring park was better controlled and maintained it would definitely be on my revisit list.

Returned to this site at my sons choice for his birthday weekend. Had to set off after school which meant that we got there in the dark at about 8pm (due to traffic and bad rain!). Booked in at reception and was told to choose an electric pitch, if we could find one! Did not understnd this as we had booked a couple of weeks earlier.

Apparently, it had been raining solidly for days and as a result most pitches left were waterlogged or very muddy, nearly turned round and booked in a local hotel. After 45 mins of searching and testing the ground we found a pitch on a corner, not very flat but the least boggy - was very glad that we had brought the easiest tent to put up as it was dark, raining and muddy!

Tent went up quickly though and we were soon settled in although it was very slippy under foot! Someone heard my prayers though as the sun was shining when we got up in the morning.

It continued to be sunny for the rest of the weekend and we even stayed an extra night. The toilets and showers were kept as clean as possible (considering the very muddy conditions) and the cleaner was in there 2 and 3 times per day! The activities were all on and the kids were always busy and had a great time.

My only suggestions would be somewhere to put your clothes whilst you are having a shower as the floors were muddy and one hook on the back of the door really does not suffice and the dog walking area is just a REALLY overgrown field and so more an exercise area for very well behaved dogs! There are poop bins but getting to the area that your dog has used is extremely difficult!

Advice would be get there early, especially in bad weather, to secure a reasonable pitch. Many people arrived after us and left without even setting up, and some of those were in caravans!

Burger King on site was very good but didn't risk the breakfast as there were flies crawling on it under the heat lamps! Alpine Bar great for sports but clubhouse all about selling stuff to kids as usual for this type of site!
