This site could be heaven for certain people who 'vont to be alone' with no young ones allowed and the dark sky at night, but there are some drawbacks in my opinion.

Access is up a gravel road which, apparently, has been recently improved but is still a bit of a boneshaker.

The site is a rectangular field surrounded by hedging, trees and farming land. Pitches are very large and screened but some are not very level. There is only 1 toilet block and if you are told to pitch at the opposite corner (as we were) ( Pitch 18), it's a fair run in the morning (!) and a long haul with grey waste, toilet cassette and rubbish.

There is also no rubbish as such as everything has to be separated near the toilet block for recycling. The town Bourton (with shops, pubs, restaurants and buses etc ) is about 1 1/2 miles away by road or path but be warned that it is very steep on the way back and would not be suitable for a lot of people.

We are walkers but it was not a welcome stroll after a meal and a few pints, more like head down and go for it ! A major draw back is the toilet block which is kept very clean ( just like the whole site really) but only has 2 gents wc and 3 wc in the Ladies.

It's just not enough at peak times and the site was not full while we were there. Bourton is very nice but extremely popular and was full of tourists of many Nations at the weekend, so it can be a struggle to get a seat in the Beer Gardens in the sunshine.

There are decent walks around the town to other quieter, rural Cotswold villages.

We would thoroughly recommend this site. We did an overnight weekend stay in a T5 with awning.

The pitches are very private, they have electric if you need it, clean toilet/shower block with hot water, good recycling facilities.

Very friendly and accommodating hosts who gave us a good run down of everything when we got there and let us check in early [by pre-arrangement], which really helped us to maximise our short break.

Perfectly situated to explore the area too - only a short walk down into Bourton-on-the-water which occupied the afternoon. Longer walks are easily accessible - which we'd look at doing when we come back [for a longer stay!].

Personally - we loved the over 30's thing as well as it was inevitably very quiet. Far too many parents abandon their kids on campsites - letting them get up to allsorts - so its not often we get a trip quite as relaxing as this one.

Being in the middle of nowhere, its a bit dark at night-time is all I'd say - they could do with a few solar lights scattered over the site to assist the 'midnight-wee'ers.

9/10.

Overall we enjoyed staying on this site, it was well laid out with plenty of privacy between the pitches provided by the copious vegetation. It was also quiet but easily accessible with a touring van and we loved the walk into Bourton (about an hour if you're taking it at a comfortable pace)

It would be nice if there was a map to show the local walks however.

On the down side, we felt the families weren't adequate - it was bank holiday so fairly busy, but only two toilet cubicles for the men and three for the women weren't enough and a couple of times we had to queue. Also, no means of drying your hands was rather irritating and unnecessary.

A couple of reviewers have commented on the value for money - well we paid £30 per night which I thought was plenty. I really object to having to pay £2 per night for a dog which after all we accommodated ourselves and didn't need to be cleaned up after. I also thought that £4 per day for electricity was too much - most campsites include it in the tariff and being charged another tenner if you want to leave a couple of hours late was also irksome. I know this is a business but it really felt they were on to every technique for screwing a bit more money out of us.

Just back after an Easter break - loved it.

If you want 'peaceful' this is for you, love our grandchildren but this such a quiet adult only site.

The wardens were cheerful and helpful. Free wifi from the information hut - good 4G throughout the rest of the site. Toilet block clean and tidy and loads of hot water and a nice little laundry/dish wash area. The site has its own dog walk, though you are surrounded by public right of ways.

The owners have listened to feedback and repaired the approach track recently.

20-30 mins walk away is the VERY picturesque village of Bourton on the water with lots of gift shops and places to eat.

Will DEFINITELY be back :)

This was our second visit (we stayed not long after it first opened). Nice big pitches and mostly quiet and peaceful - but why are some dog owners so inconsiderate by allowing their pets to bark, yap and whine all the time?

Toilet block was clean, but a bit basic. Our one main gripe is the access to the site from the road - it is in a very bad state, with huge bumps and potholes.

We never saw the warden/owners - no-one in reception when we got there at 2. 30pm, only a sheet pinned on a board telling us which pitch we were on. Didn't meet Colin the cat either!

We would use site again when visiting the Cotswolds as it is I a good location and at £17 per night it is good value.

Fantastic site, fantastic people, nowt to complain about. They sell bbq food on site, steaks, burgers etc.

However I can complain about Bourton on the Water. I hate it. NO Butchers, No veg shop. IN the town there is a shop (Londis I think), but poor, expensive selection of meat and veg. The Coop is a bit better, but not much and is a bit out of town if like me you are on shank's pony. ( ie walking). Not a dog friendly town or even area. Thankfully we had carried our own lunch and bough a take away coffee. We had walked 6 miles to get to Bourton (thankftully only 1 and a bit to get back), and literally it was standing room only on the town. Never again in high season. Quieter on our veneing vist (needed a pint or two). Nearly 8 quid for two pints, expensive pub food, not value for money.

Good site. We were camping toward the top of the site and when we were there it was very windy. I would recommend the lower numbered pitches, with hedge sheltering and near loos.

Colin the cat who is in charge is very friendly. The wardens are too!

Although only 3 showers and 2 loos in ladies and gents, had no problem and they were kept clean.

Good landscaping with amazing elephant grass.

Incredible stargazing because no ambient light at all, take torches!

Yes the EHU can be quite far but the wardens will supply extension leads so no problem. (£10 returnable deposit).

It is walkable to Bourton, either by a quiet lane or footpath. Steep coming back though and need a torch at night! Takes about 25 mins there, 30 back!

Bourton must be on the Japanese tourist route, 100s of them snapping everything, but go 10 feet off the main drag and it's quiet. Loads to see in Bourton and easy signposted walks to the Slaughters.

Easy access by car to surrounding towns and villages.

Effectively adult only, nice and peaceful.

Take plenty of tent pegs, it is very stoney under topsoil.

Nicely laid out site with large separated pitches. Big downer for us was road noise from nearby A road - possibly better if you are on a pitch lower down the site with hedges. Dated facilities.

Expensive for what you get. Potholed gravel access road, apparently improved since our visit. A bit far to walk to Bourton. No staff on site this being their last week open of the season.

Stayed 1 night having prepaid for 2, would not go back.

Just back from a fab week at Field Barn. All pitches are large, on some you may need an extra electric lead as some are quite a distance from the power supply. We were on a bit of a slope and needed levelling blocks. Pitches are separated by grasses and shrubs which is really nice. Facilities were fine, recycling is easy enough with clear signs of what goes in what container. Plenty of dog bins around the site too. Wardens friendly and helpful.

Easy half hour walk into Bourton on Water - beautiful village, lots of families sitting having picnics on the grass next to the river. There was even a duck race on the river which was doing a roaring trade for charity.

Ok so now for the Dog Friendly bit:

The Kingsbridge, The Old Manse & The Duke of Wellington are all dog friendly. The first two it would be far too easy to sit and people watch all day with a glass of wine or two. There is also pub called the Mousetrap which we sat outside but never asked if you could take dogs in. Have you noticed a pattern yet :)

There are quite a few cafes and teashops that are dog friendly too but I cant remember there names.

The Motor Museum is also dog friendly and is a must. Not just cars in there but bikes, caravans, old signs, toys and clothing from the era of the vehicles on show too. It's fab. Birdland just on the outskirts of the village is also worth a look and once again dog friendly.

We wanted to go around the Model Village but this wasn't dog friendly - boo! Don't know why as it was outdoors.

We went on the Steam Train at Cheltenham to Toddington - lovely journey and dog friendly.

There are lots of lovely villages in the area which we wandered round. We went to Upper Slaughter (definitely worth a look) but beware if you are looking for somewhere to eat - the only pub, all be it dog friendly, was expensive £15. 50 for fish, chips and mushy peas!

One night as we took the dog out for her bedtime wee wee we noticed the sky had cleared so we sat out and within minutes we had seen 3 shooting stars and a satellite - as you aren't near any street light the sky was amazing - hubby wished he had brought his binoculars.

We would definitely go back to this site

This is a perfect site if you like peace and quiet, massive grass pitches, clean facilities and a little bit of free wifi (in the information hut). It has all those things along with good recycling and a nice walk into Bourton where, as well as the ubiquitous tourist-type cafes, pubs and visitor attractions can be found an excellent Indian restaurant/takeaway - the Aroma. Well worth a visit. The site is divided up by strips of what they call elephant grass, around 8 feet tall, beautiful grass which rustles in the wind and helps to disguise any road noise (of which there is very little) and people noise (again, very little). From our pitch only 5 or 6 other pitches could be seen, so effective is the grass planting. Whoever thought up this ingenious idea is to be commended. Did rather put me in mind of long dead baseball players appearing suddenly for a game, though.

I could easily have stayed put every day rather than go out on our usual jaunts, so nice was the site. We will definitely be returning.

Just one thing - presumably people who choose an adult-only site do so for the lack of noise. Why, then, do they think it doesn't count as noise to leave their dog outside the van and let it bark at every movement or noise from anywhere on the site? One of those imponderables of life, I guess.
