july 2004 One of the best campsites that we have stayed at and are already planning our return. Great location (10 mins into Bath on regular bus from just outside the campsite). Beautiful surroundings, bar on site, didn't try the on site restuarant so can't comment, great on site shop, seemed like a lot of things for kids to do, shower and toilet blocks are great, owners very friendly. If you are planning a trip to Bath definately take a look at this campsite.

June 2004 Giving a review is somewhat subjective and depends what you like..... All I can say is that we had a great time here and would definatley go back again.
The site is quite small and located in a steep sided vally with a stream at the bottom (good or dangerous for children depending on your view!). The one way tarmac service road winds down the hill to a smart log cabin type reception, round a huge tree, and then back up a hill to the main road.
Don't be put off though, you will not be disturbed by traffic - that is the beauty of this site - located on the SW edge of the city, just a short bus or taxi ride into town, yet still with a complete feel of being in the countryside.
The shower block (new I would imagine) is totally immaculate with decent showers, washing up sinks etc. Even a sensor switched industrial type fan was laid on to suck out those early morning aromas! Located midway down the site there was never too far to walk at 4am.
You are allocated a pitch number with enough, but perhaps not massive amounts of room.
There was a bar which served breakfast if you wanted - but didn't try it in the evening.
Anyway, well done Newton Mill. You get a 9/10 from me.

June 2004 It was our first time camping as a family. The family being 2 adults and 2 children aged 9 and 5. The site was an excellent first choice of camp site. Before we even finished removing our tent from the car the kids had made a couple of friends. We got their bikes off the car and didn't have any bother from them again until we had the tent erected and all the stuff put neatly away inside. The site was a fair distance from the roads so the kids were happy to go and play safely. There was a lovely stream and kids play area for them. A well stocked shop, pub and restaurant for us. The shop had good opening hours but didn't sell alcohol (the sites only down side). Had a lovely weekend. Really relaxing. Can't wait to go there again.

early May 2004 As everyone else said, lovely site with very nice clean and modern facilities. Excellent welcome from the lady at reception who also kindly swapped around our pitches so friends who were there in their tent could camp nearer us. Shop well stocked and I must be honest - not as expensive as I expected! Meals served at the onsite bar/restaurant were very nice and we actually used it both nights we stayed.
While we were there apparently there were also a large group of 'bikers' i.e. motorcyclists, in residence but due to the layout and the size of the site they weren't evident to us - only knew about them because our friends came across them when walking to the cycle route.
The well managed site showed it was welcoming to all, especially the wildlife and there was an abundance of duck and ducklings, various birds and such to be seen. It was nice to see the mown areas for pitches, but also the areas left to nature for the wildlife.
We will definately be visiting this lovely site in easy reach of Bath again.

May Bank Holiday 2004 This was me and my partners first camping trip ever, and it was a very nice experience! The site is situated on the edge of Bath and is only a short drive away from the main town. You could if you wanted to visit Bristol in about 15mins (but I am from Bristol and I didn't fancy doing that!). It is set in a little valley-esque location with a stream that runs right through the bottom. We were put into the bottom field which meant that we had to leave the car at the top of the small hill and carry our tent and equipment over the stream via a wooden bridge. It wasnt too far but not much fun if you old or totally unfit (like me!). There were other pitches where you can put cars but we arrived on Bank Holiday Sunday for one night, so we didnt mind too much.
It was very quiet where we were with just general modest chatting to be heard (the occasional snoring and baby crying didn't put us off our sleep too much!).
The facilities here are very good, with nice modern showers and toilets and washing up area. The toilets are situated in the middle of the whole site and is not too far if you are on the ends of the fields. Also, there is a small shop/reception, large shop (which was shut so can't tell you about that!) pub and small restaurant/bistro, launderette and a small kiddies play area with swings and climbing thingies. We had a meal outside the pub which took about 20 minutes to come. The service was excellent, most polite, and the price was fairly reasonable. The meal itself was very good value for money as it was quite large and tasted excellent.
My only complaint (and a very small one) is that the "dog walk" was on a mini Mount Everest! So we didnt walk our dog there! But he had fun anyway as it was his first camping trip!

Nov 2004 Fantastic site with very well kept ammenities (new shower blocks). The site is in a valley with no TV reception, but you can hook up to a tv point with a co-ax cable, for a small charge (site supplies cable for a £10 refundable deposit). Friendly people with a well stocked shop and a good pub (slightly expensive) on site that serves good food. There is a small stream running through but no good for the fishermen out there as it was too small. Plenty of wild life, we saw lots of squirells and some ducks outsite the caravan in the morning. Only about 3 miles to Bath City centre and a bus runs from outsite the site - in case you want a few bevvies in town. Enjoy!! Don't get too trollied though in case you cant find your way back!

August 2003 First impressions of the campsite were good a lovely reception area, very well equiped store. However there were a few niggling nuisances. We arrived early about 10ish were told our pitch number and headed of expecting to be able to set up only to find someone still on it and they would not be leaving till 11am (which is when everyone is to vacate the pitches by - not explained by reception but never mind).
Toliet block by the electric pitches was clean but had that aged look (very municipal). But there was always hot water (only two of the showers in the ladies had manual temperature control)& loo paper! Comment added by site owners - "These toilets have now been completely refurbished and have received the 5-Star Loo of the Year Award: December 2004"
The campsite is in a valley the only views are of other campers unless you walk one of the foot-pathes from here you should get a lovely views.
The bar is not open to campers during the week till after 5pm. On the weekend you will be able to get a pint at lunch but don't expect bar meals. There is a resturant on site that opens in the mornings for breakfast and evening for dinner. I can only comment on the breakfast and it was fine. The arcade is also only open in the evenings.
If you have small children beware a stream does run through the campsite. Otherwise if you would like to set up near the stream it might be worth mentioning this when you book?
We did look in on the new toilet block which is situated in the non-electric part of the site and it seems quite nice and smart.
It was rather busy when we were there and some of the non-electric pitches appeared to be over-crowded, near to roads with nowhere near for the kids to play (there is a play park on site near to the reception).
The laundrette found near the kiddies play area is well equipped there is a room off this with books and information pamplets - more information can be found in reception.
Other then a few barking dogs (which owners left behind in there camper van) and a family domestic I would say this is one of the quitest sites I have been to.
There is a Waitrose in town (rather expensive), on the A4 heading into Bath you should see sign posting for Sainsbury on your left there is a Safeway in town also. However the store on site is very good!
The cycle path into town in a very quick hassel free way to go into Bath. We rode in nearly every day and had no problems locking our bikes up and leaving them.
This site is in such a good position for visiting Bath.

April 2003 This campsite is a great hybrid: it's small, friendly and peaceful (or at least it was in April!) but commercial in the sense that it has great amenities and is in a fantastic location very close to Bath. We received a warm and personal service. The pitches and grounds are very well kept. The bar wasn't to our taste (sports clubhouse in style) but it has a nice outdoor seating area and must be great for parents who can't leave the site. We don't have children but from what I could see the facilities seemed good - there is a new playground and a snack bar plus the reception has lots of literature on local activities / places to visit for families. The site itself is very green with a beautiful stream running through it. This is a brilliant site to use as a base to expolore the local area: Bath, Wells and Marlborough are all great day trips. It's a good starting point for hiking and cycling too. I would recommend this site without hesitation!

August 2001 A good site within close proximty of Bath Town centre. There is a bus stop that runs into Bath a short walk across a field. Facilities on site include a childrens play area, a bar with pool, games machines and TV.
Overall this is a good site which I would return to again.
