Had a lovely stay on this very picturesque site! Our stay was enhanced by the super weather for late September/early October!

Pros:

Managers always on site and ready to help!

The site was easy to find, entrance and exit roads superb!

Staff very polite and helpful!

Toilet block on main site very good, clean, plenty of showers and toilets!

Facility for washing dishes kept clean and tidy!

Great canal walk to Bath, bus stop close by!

Bar was handy, although we didn't use it all night, every night!

Free WiFi in the bar and in the bar garden!

Cons:

Mobile network almost impossible due to the site being in a valley, but, we managed without!

Like to see:

A room with information/ Wifi/ magazine and book exchange!

More selection of groceries in the shop!

After reading all the reviews we were really looking forward to this site, but we were in the old part of the site pitch 56,

We were advised we had hard standing for van & awning on arrival we were advised to put our awning on the grass, when I questioned this no response was given, we have eco friendly mats but as we were told it was hard standing we brought a carpet and killed the grass!

We were packed in, our neighbours car had to park 2cm off our awning strings, we would have moved on, but it was Bank Holiday and we could not find any other sites and we had tickets for Bath races on the following Wednesday. People who stayed for less days got better pitches, though there were not many I think pitch 70 would be the best

The toilet block had seen better days, the walls had scum on them, the shower curtains were dirty, cement pealing off! there was a new block up on the new park, but it was a fare trek and not much cleaner!

There were people actually living on site and every morning between 6am & 7. 30am people were going out in cars & mopeds.

The best part was the location next to the Bristol & Bath cycle path we cycled to Bath a couple of times, you have to go through a wood and cross a road, but it is not a problem, we cycled along the canal to Bradford on Avon and to Bristol.

The bar and restaurant were actually very clean and food was very good. But after receiving a very posh brochure 4* it most certainly is not. It was a good job we have a new van with a fab shower. It was not worth the £161. 00 for 7 nights

Visited with Granddaughter in tent. Although the weather was very wet we had a thoroughly enjoyable break. The facilities are excellent and always kept nice and clean. The walks around and from the site are pleasant. The walk to the bus stop for Bath is a little steep but I am not the best of walkers and managed ok. The buses into Bath are frequent. The reception staff are friendly and helpful and checking in was easy.

The bubbling stream running through the site was an added attraction. Restaurant and bar on site makes for some very relaxing evenings.

My daughter and myself stayed here for 4 nights in the middle of August. We had reasonably dry weather. The location was good for visiting the sights in and around Bath.

Upon arrival we were given the choice to go in the tent only field or stick with our allotted pitch, on inspection the tent only field (over a small walking bridge)was nice but it was very crowded and squashed in together so we informed them it seemed over full and opted for our pitch in the main section.

However when we arrived at the pitch it was a small patch of level grass next to the road (as they all were) with just enough room to put a tent and then park your car on the gravel next to it. No room for a chairs and table.

The lay out of the pitches was regimented along the road, tents one side and caravans/campervans on the other. It felt like a car park not a campsite. My heart sank in disappointment.

Above the caravans was another tier along a road (the exit road from the campsite) with some raised mounds of grass with tents on but spaced further apart. I negotiated a change of pitch. One member of staff said I couldn't swap and another very pleasant smiley lady sorted it out for us.

With some clever positioning of my wind break this pitch felt less like a carpark now. All the pitches had been purposely levelled so pitching was very easy.

The facility blocked for this section was located down 2 flights of stairs between the marked pitch area and the tent only field. There were cctv camera's and police warning signs attached to the walls outside it. You were given a key code to get inside the toilet and shower area.

The facilities in this section were filthy. No mats at the door so mud, water and grass all over the floor. My daughter reported she used the same toilet for the 4 days we were there and the same discarded sweet wrappers were in the cubicle every day. Some fellow campers left the toilets and sink areas in a terrible state. No soap in dispensers for 2 days.

The taps didn't turn off so were constantly running, in the wash cubicles the plugs were blocked up with peoples hair and these never got cleared out during our stay, so the sinks filled with water when you were cleaning your teeth!

There was no mop for the showers just a mop bucket with dirty water. The showers just dribbled water. It all felt very unhygenic. Yet outside the grounds were immaculately maintained. Grass cut and beautiful trees.

The washing up area consisted of 4 indoor sinks. Each hot tap vibrated noisily and spluttered out the water when in use. Again fellow campers were leaving these areas dirty. This site needs to invest in a good plumber to sort it out.

The site had a well stocked shop selling all essentials and ice creams, cold drinks and even a coffee machine. There was a nice looking restaurant/bar tucked around the mill house but we never used it and a small play park - but no space for ball games or for children to run around on site.

A lovely stream runs through the site and some people were properly fishing in it. On another area of the site which was mainly caravans/campervans all on hard standing again, the site took on a much pleasanter feel.

More space between each one. Here the toilet block had mats at the doors, 2 mops, immaculate toilet block, notices on the walls politly asking people to clean up after themselves and even benches and hooks for clothing etc.

Here there were some bathrooms for use at extra charge. It seemed that people staying in tents don't deserve the same standard of facilities for some reason.

I would say I just about coped with this site for 4 days. With the facilities as they were I wouldn't recommend it, but if they had been kept cleaner and in better state of repair and you don't mind regimented or completely overcrowded fields then then it's ok.

I wouldn't come back. Yet parts of it were really good.

We hadn't booked anywhere for the august bank holiday weekend so were very pleased to secure a pitch at this campsite. Here are the pros and cons:

Pros

Very helpful staff
The pub has nice food
Very local for visiting Bath and Longleat safari park

Cons

Full of caravans
Pitches sloping so we would wake up during the night at the bottom of our airbeds.
We asked for a pitch away from the bar/road and we were a long walk from the showers and loos.
They close the loos for 2 hours in the morning for cleaning.
Very noisy pub, loud music.

As you come into the site, there is a road with a grassy verge on one side. They use this for pitches for tents which are literally right beside the road. Thankfully we had a pitch shoved in beside a load of caravans at the other end of the site. We arrived late on the Saturday and pitched ate and more or less went to bed. As I said the pitches were sloping so not ideal. The countryside around the campsite once you are away from here is stunning. We had a full day at Longleat with the children on the Sunday and came back starving so were grateful for a delicious meal in the pub although there was a disco going on beside our table which was too loud for myself and my husband to hold a conversation but the children enjoyed dancing

The loos and showers were very clean but they close them for 2 hours in the morning to clean them which to my mind is crazy, they should be done early ie 7 am so that you don't have to hang around for a shower. This is definitely a site for caravaners as it is not geared up for tents and for this reason we wouldn't return. There is organised entertainment each evening in the mill house which wasn't really our cup of tea. There is a useful shop on the site and a children's playground. Having said all of this the staff were super helpful and polite and happy to go that extra mile.

Google Darwin Holidays and it states 'Top Class Holiday Parks in the UK'! I think we stayed at the wrong one! At £30 a night we hoped to get Top Class how wrong we were

The pitch was small ( ok not the end of the world) As for the toilet block it was in great need of repair and a thorough clean, the smell was off putting, the walls had chipped paint and the shower cubicles where very dirty they had mould on the ceilings and grout, not what I would call Top Class !

The parks grounds are well kept but there is an area where they have Residents living which looks quite run down

We looked in the Club house and was not impressed so we didn’t use it

This site could be really nice but it so needs an update on facilities to be charging £30 a night

The path leading from the site to get to Bath is to be avoided if its been raining

Bath is a place we have been many times before and it never lets us down, it’s a wonderful place to visit

I selected this site as my 3rd choice, as was unsure what to expect having read previous reviews. However I was very pleasantly surprised, the site is well maintained, yes its compact but in all honesty if everyone parks in their allocated space there is ample room.

The setting makes the site feel small but its in a valley so it will always present itself this way. We thought the site was really quite good, 10. 30 at night all quiet, no problems at all with noise. There is not an area for kids to play (except the park )but in the 5 days I was there there was usually somewhere for folks to have racket games as units had left. TV connection worked well although extension was needed.

Staff at the sight are all very helpful, both in reception, bar and on site itself. I had to get gas and despite the late hour the ladies were exceptionally patient. Site appears well maintained I was particularly impressed to see one of the groundsmen walking through the site everyday picking up litter. 9/10

Toilets and showers were I thought very good overall( hot water and simple infra red on off mechanism)), one shower had some paint flaking off the wall, but the rest were all fine, as were the loos. Mop and bucket facilities to clean up after yourself and it appeared people were happy to do so. Pretty good overall. 8/10

Bar and Restaurant - overall very good its pub grub but its well presented, good value and the staff are again very pleasant and helpful. 9/10

SO what were the negatives-:

The shop facility is very poor, and to be honest I think they would be better making a clear choice to either have one or not, because my expectation here was not met at all. I asked for a television extension cable as this is required unless you have specialist kit yourself and they don't even stock it either for sale or hire.

Pity as if stocked properly they could make a killing, but this may impact on the restaurant food sales. They don't do papers either.

Only minor criticism here was the entertainment, Saturday was a male singer and he was ok, but Wednesday offered up a belly dancer which in actual fact was Arabic music with a dancer. In itself probably very good but not exactly great entertainment for the kids after 10 minutes.

The area we were parked at had the river 20 meters awaybut it was hidden behind shrubbery It would have been more pleasant if this had been opened up a bit.

Thats the bad bits over- some additional info though:-

For those of you looking for a paper in the morning, turn left as you exit the site and about a half mile up the road is a CostCutter. In addition another half mile and there was a Co operative store in the process of being put together and was due to open. But I can really recommend a visit to a local baker. Keep driving through the small suburb and you will see this baker on the opposite corner-its fantastic!

Anyone looking for Sainsbury's you have two options either headc into Bath and where you see a sign for MAGNET on the left handside turn in this opening. Alternatively, as you exit the site turn right then immediate left and head towards Frome and there is a store about the same distance in that direction.

So in short this is a good site but you need to be prepared to get your provisions off site.

We have just returned from a lovely stay at this site.

We were on pitch 10 which is located close to the shower block.

The pitch was level and not a bad size (we have a 4 berth family tent so personally for us the size of the pitch was ok).

Parking for cars on these pitches was located on a hardstanding in front of the pitch which was a welcome change, in our opinion.

As mentioned in previous reviews, this site is very picturesque with a pretty stream running through also lots of wildlife including tame ducks that seemed to love a slice of bread or two!

The staff were very helpful at the on-site shop (I would recommend buying the eggs - some of which contributed to a lovely breakfast on our last morning!)

The toilets/showers were very clean with plenty of hot water as was the washing-up area too.

To summarize, a beautiful site that is well worth a visit (we have already booked another stay later in the year!)

We stayed in the Meadow - absolutely beautiful site with a stream running through but no car access at all - not even for unloading - don't let this put you off though it was so beautiful & worth the trek with our gear.

Other pitches are raised with hook ups & not nearly as out in the wilderness feeling. Still well maintained though.

Clean loos & showers & never had to queue. The pub is OK & the food was superb & good value for money. There's entertainment at the weekends which was belly dancing when we were there! Well stocked shop.

Sweet little playground for the children, shame its not in view of the pub so the parents can have a drink while the kids play.

Would recommend on the stunning-ness of the meadow itself!

We have just returned from 2 nights at Newton Mill and had a lovely time - despite the rain.

We were situated on pitch 10, an electric pitch, which was very close and convenient for showers, toilets and clean up kitchen.

The pitches are well proportioned so we weren't too close to neighbours and you park in front so slightly screened from the road.

The other two camping fields looked flat and near to the stream. They were also further from the road and train line so possibly more tranquil, but I can't say that either of these bothered us.

We went in the bar once to watch the football. It seemed nice enough but didn't stay for the entertainment as that's not for us!

We did walk to Bath, which took about 50 minutes, walking through the site, across the cricket club and then joining the riverside walk. Fairly flat, pleasant stroll.

The shower / toilet block was very pleasant. Clean, warm and plenty of cubicles. Even a bath if you want to pay £2 (showers free). There was a kids playground too.

All in all, it's a good location and we would go back.
