We have just arrived back from a 2 night stay at Beech Croft Farm.

This site is easy to access as it is just off the A6, although is situated so that you don't hear any noise from the road traffic. On arrival we found a pitch and then went to the shop to book in.

Pitches aren't allocated prior to arrival, so we were told to choose one and then let the owners know we were there. We chose the pitch by the gate leading to the shop - we liked this pitch as it was surrounded by trees and quite sheltered. We thought the pitches were good, particularly the one we had and the one the in-laws had next to ours - plenty of room for the caravan, full awning and the car, as well as being quite private.

The location of the site is lovely - we don't like to be in the middle of a town or in a built up area, so the rural position was just up our street. There are beautiful walks right on your doorstep so perfect for us being walkers and dogs owners!

We followed the 'Monsal trail', which took us through fields, along the river and a disused railway line. Make sure you wear your walking boots and are prepared for steep inclines, declines and slippery rocks if you take the river route. It's worth it though - the views are stunning!

The site itself comprises of the lower site (for tourers) and an upper field for tents. The facilities include the shop (ran by the owners who are extremely friendly and helpful), toilet block, showers and washing up room.

The only thing that does let the site down are the toilets and showers. These are in need of a refurbishment and are not big enough to service the camp site at busy times. There are 3 toilets in the Ladies plus a shower, 2 toilets, 1 urinal and 1 shower in the Mens plus 3 unisex showers.

The toilets and showers were cleaned daily but it wasn't long before grass was on the floor and everything in the shower areas was soaking wet. I think a lot of this came down to a few of the campers being a bit inconsiderate to be honest but there were a few things that could help this - e.G. A squidgy mop in each shower and a J-cloth for each of the sinks, with a polite notice asking guests to wipe the sinks after use.

Pub wise there are a few located about 5 minutes by car, 30 minutes on foot. We would recommend the Crown Inn, which is on the information sheet you receive on arrival. That was the only one we tried though but the food was lovely!

Overall I would recommend this site. Easy to access, stunning location, excellent walks, good size pitches. If the toilet blocks were given a facelift it would be perfect!

We arrived Friday for a weekend visit, it was pouring with rain and getting dark. This made it difficult to squeeze into the narrow space, we tried to find a bigger one but unfortunately they were all taken. The site was on 3 tiers with the bottom one getting a little water logged. We settled for a spot somewhere in the middle.

The tent field was on the top teir, they seemed to have lots of space up there and all seemed to be enjoying themselves.

The toilets were a bit old and shabby and some people liked to leave long black hairs in the sinks. The showers cost 30p for 6 mins, with the toilets not being kept clean I didn't bother with the showers.

I think this site was very good for tents but unfortunately not caravans.

I doubt if we will use this site again.

We've just spent three nights at this campsite and thought it was really good. It is small enough so you still feel like you are actually camping, but has all the facilities you need.

There is a new toilet block planned for next year, but that said the old one is just fine, just a bit old looking. But everything works well, its very clean, well stocked and plenty of hot water.

The people in the shop were very friendly and helpful. They recommended pubs and were happy to let us freeze ice blocks in there freezer.

Also the Church Inn does a very nice meal, a proper friendly pub, with a great specials board and good with kids without it being a kiddie place. My husband is a chef and said he hadn't had such a good steak in a long time.

Excellent little site, well worth a visit.

We went for 3 nights between Saturday and Tuesday and managed to squeeze our 8-man tent into a small pitch on the left hand side. Be warned though that the site is on a slight sope, making things like sleeping and cooking awkward if you don't get an ideal pitch.

The ground at the site is perfect for tents with most pegs being able to be pushed right in without needing a mallet, or the frustration of bending half of them trying to get them into the ground.

I would fully recommend you book in advance, as we found the site very busy on the Saturday when we arrived with most of the tent pitches already taken. However by Sunday afternoon, most people had packed up and the site was a lot quieter.

The owners were very friendly, and were often on site to help out and to empty the bins. The site even encourages you to recycle with bins for empty glass and tins.

The toilets and showers are due to be refurbished at the end of the season, so I will only make a passing comment on them for now - they alway appeared clean and tidy, and 30p for a 6min hot shower is not bad at all.

For those with Chemical Toilets, there is a decent Elsan point in front of the shower block, which is also clean and comes in the form of a toilet encased in concrete and a hose to rinse the toilets out.

The site is well located between Buxton, Tideswell and Bakewell. Buxton has a large Morrisons supermarket as well as everything else you would need like a post office, takeaways, local shops, etc. Just make sure you bring plenty of change for parking meters!

Decided to take the dog away camping for the first time to see how he got on sleeping in a tent. Found the site excellent as pitched in a very large field with plenty of space. Downside is there is a slight incline but pitched our tent accordingly.

Facilities were a little walk away, not a major problem! there is a washing up room, showers and toilets which were very clean and well maintained, showers cost 30p for 6 minutes which is good value. (new facilities to be built for next year),

found the staff very friendly and gave us good advice on the walks in the area. There are several pubs within 30mins walk across fields and bridle paths. This location is ideal for people wanting a walking holiday. Will be going back soon to try out the other walks available.

This is a nice site with very clean toilet / shower facilities. Did not notice a playground as such. The children tended to play in the top field. This area (tents only) was very well kept although exposed in windy conditions so bring windbreakers!

Arrived on a Saturday afternoon. After waiting for ten minutes in the site shop we were handed a piece of paper detailing nearby pubs. A helpful touch although it fails to mention the nearby village of Taddington is uphill most of the way! This site is best as a starting point for walks as the pubs and attractions are all a good walk away (at least 30 min)

Only stayed for one night and disappointing that they now only allow a two night minimum stay for tents which can be difficult for some without taking time off work. Nice site but won't be visiting again as the customer service could be better.

I visited this site as it is close to home and I wanted to try out a new tent that I had just bought prior to a longer trip in the near future. I only really wanted to stay Sat night but the owners have a two night min. policy in place - payable in advance. Wasn't really a problem for me but as I have done lots of backpacking over the years I did wonder how the one night backpacker was catered for.

Anyway the campsite was okay - it does have the potential to be very good. The situation of the site is excellent, there are great views all around. The camping field is on a slight slope but there are some flat spots. The toilets are a good walk away.

The facilities, whilst clean are very old and nowhere near big enough for the volume of people on the site. There is plenty of nice hot water and more than enough loo rolls. Showers are 30p per shower - you need a token obtainable at reception. Basic provisions are also available from reception.

Washing up facilities are two sinks, which are undercover. I did read a notice on the ouside of the toilet block stating that the facilities will be rebuilt in the closed season and be ready for Easter 2011. The new facilities when they arrive will make this a very good campsite to visit.

There are more than enough good to excellent pubs in the area offering good food - the Horse & Jockey in Tideswell is excellent.

Very nice, clean and friendly site. Hard standing pitches with small grass areas next to them. The site has fantastic views over the country side.

Great location for walking, be it short walks or longer hikes ( we did both). Toilet block is slightly dated but a new one is planned. There is a small shop that sells the basics and some very good walking maps.

The owners are very friendly and you get a very warm welcome on arrival. Several pubs within walking distance which are suitable for kids and dogs.

Will be returning later in the year.

We had planned to stay here for two nights but due to illness we left in the evening of the second day so only stayed for 1 night.

We stayed in the tent field and it was quite busy as it was spring bank week. The views are lovely and it was nice to sit outside the tent and admire the view. Tents were pitched quite close to each other but it wasn't really an issue. There was enough room for children to run around and play cricket and football.

The owners were friendly and the little shop sold basic provisions. We visited Buxton which is a lovely place it is worth noting that there are a couple of camping shops in the town as well.

On the minus side the toilets, showers and pot washing facilities were quite a way from the tent field, and this was a bit inconvenient especially at 2 o'clock in the morning when the little one needed to go. The block is quite dated, there are two sinks for pot washing and I never had to queue. We didn't use the showers as we only stayed the one night.

I would recommend this site for a weekend / short break but I doubt I would return - only because there are so many other campsites to visit.

Very nice little camp site, really enjoyed stay there. Walking distance from Chee Dale - amazing place! Stayed there 3 nights, but was hot enough, will definitely back!

Also near to Buxton and a lot of pretty villages around with a lot of places to eat. Local Bus route passes nearby on A6, very handy if you do not want to drive.

Just one inconvenience - some pitches could be difficult to park for caravan as site got pitches on different levels. The site got clean toilets, showers, little shop and amazing views.
