We had just bought a second hand Combicamp and wanted somewhere close to home to test it out. The site is very well run but was quite busy as the weather was kind. It was interesting to have the chickens wandering about, and discuss the vegetable garden with the owner. Security is tight, but some areas were a bit crowded. There is good shelter and the site is slip into smaller sites by trees and shrubs. Excellent facilities, although we did not try the pool. There is some road noise through the night as the A52 passes close by. Good pub two minutes walk, and basic groceries on site.

We stayed here as part of 3 families with small children and it was excellent. The toilet facilities were clean and usable. I believe they are being updated soon. We were on the meadow field which is enclosed and there was lots of grass for our children to play on safely. Our friends daughter even managed to learn to ride a bike without stabilisers whilst we were there. The staff were very helpful. The children loved the playground and all of the animals that were wandering around. We will be visiting again and I recommend this site for families with small children.

We have just come back from a weekend at this site, and we were quite disappointed. We arrived, checked in and was given a handy local guide. We found our pitch, after negotiating the pot holes, which was level and clear. Once pitched we went to check the site out, all was tidy, no sign of the new toilet block, and I must say how disappointed we were with the old block. The ladies had 4 showers, 1 was out of order, in the 2nd the shower head did not fit into the holder, in the 3rd the shower head had been dropped and was running water from the cracks in the top, I am presuming the 4th was OK as it was being used when I was in there also the fact that you pay 20p for a shower and cannot regulate the heat was a tad annoying. The toilets were clean but the overall feel was miserable and old. The hair dryer was also out of order. The waste water disposal point had a tap for rinsing but was not working this was also annoying.
We found this site near to where we wanted to be. We walked over to the pub in the evening and was good value for money. We didn't get to use the pool, but this looked ok, we don't have younger children so didn't view the park. Overall nice location, but the dated feel of the facilities let it down.

We stayed for five nights at Thornton's Holt and had a lovely time. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the site is clean and very spacious. There are chickens roaming round, which really makes it feel country-ish, although Nottingham is very close.
The on-site shop always had what we wanted, but I did see one person disappointed as they had run out of bread. There is a Sainsbury's in Cotgrave, which is about a 10 minute drive - there is a pavement all the way, so it is also walkable.
There is a pub right across the road from the site, which we didn't try, and while we were there a pizza van was on site - we did try this and can confirm that the cheesy garlic bread is tasty!
We went in the swimming pool once. When we went it was very busy - no chance of really swimming, but plenty of room to splash around with the little one. The playground closes at dusk and opens when reception opens. We played on it every day, although there isn't much for toddlers (swings and a roundabout).
If there was a problem with the site, it was that the toilets are not up to the same standard as everything else, but staff told us that their next job is to have new facilities built. The main issue for us was that there was only a changing table in the ladies', which meant either Daddy sneaking in while nobody else was around, or loitering by the door - neither of which are ideal. A family washroom would have really made the site perfect for us, but even so, we don't hesitate is heartily recommending this site and would certainly go back if we wanted to stay in the area again.

We visited this site for 2 nights over a weekend and we stayed in a tent without EHU.
We are 2 adults and 2 children who were also staying with frinds (2 adults and 3 children in a campervan - no EHU).
Overall the campsite was very pleasant and well maintained. The facilities were plentiful (never had to queue for toilet, wash-up) and well stocked with loo roll and soap. We did not make use of the showers however my friend reported that they cost 20pence for approx 3 mins and were very hot in the mens with no temperature control. Our neighbours reported that there was temperature control in the ladies.
The site was well laid out and the shop provided the children with boucy balls, drinks, sweets and ice creams. The free-roaming hens and the horse in the field at the bottom of the camping field were all nice touches.
The play park was adequate.
The swimming pool was fine although many were disappointed as it had been booked by other guests in advance. I understand the maximum capacity is 19 people in at one time. It is organised into sessions which you have to book in advance. Unfortunately for our neighbours who arrived on Friday tea time they were unable to swim on the Saturday as it was already booked on their arrival. As they were departing Sunday they missed out completely.
The one major criticism I have is the additional charge of the swimming pool of £2 per person per session. This is not clear on the website. As we had chosen this site for this facility we ended up paying £16 on top of our pitch charge for the 4 of us to go in the pool twice (each session is 1. 5hrs).
I have to mention the great little pizza van that opens on an evening. Very handy and the children enjoyed their pizzas!
There are quite a lot of site rules and the staff were also very strict.
The sire was very busy with families and lots of children and the layout of the camping field meant that they could all play in the middle with plenty of room for ball games and badminton nets.
The site is well located for the major attractions of Nottingham city centre and the National Watersports Centre.
I would recommend but would mention the additional pool costs.

We visited this site for the third time over August Bank holiday weekend. There was 20 of us in total in different pitches and in tents and a caravan.
The toilets and showers are really in need of updating. The showers do require 20p and this does suffice, however you cannot alter the temperature or pressure of the water. We found queues as there are only 4 or 5 showers in the ladies.
The shop is very limited and the opening hours do not really match other sites we have visited as in not open until 10 on the Sunday. Papers can be ordered and have to be prepaid.
Swimming pool, we did hear lots of people complaining about the fact they could not get a slot and what seems odd ids that they do not have it open all day, it is just a couple of slots each day. This could be easily remedied by having more slots. We were told when we booked that we need to come and pay before 9 the next morning or our slots would be cancelled! the shop didn't open until 9. We did feel as though this was brusque and customer service requires improvement.
The chickens are great to see but at 5. 30am when you can hear the cockerel it's not so fabulous I'm afraid.
There is a noise curfew at 10. 30 and the sign says 'unnecessary noise'. Every night the wardens walk around and this did seem as though you are being watched, we have never encountered this there before. On the Saturday night there was quite a lot of noise (music) coming from the back of the site and it seemed odd that this was not resolved by the wardens.
The wardens were also speaking to the children whilst they were playing football in the open field, they hadn't hit anything and yet they were told to make sure they didn't go near the caravans, this seemed odd. We all have cars and they didn't hit them. It all appeared to be a little over the top, I am not sure if they have had issues recently but we have never encountered this before at this site and it was really off putting for us.
The carvery pub is just a short walk away and is fabulous, make sure you go Mon - sat when its cheaper, Sunday is double. The food was fantastic and we all really enjoyed it.

This site is not far from where we live so was convenient for a weekend away.
We stayed here originally when we first got our caravan and found it a pleasant site. Although we have stayed at many others now so have a lot more to compare it with.
First of all I found the maintenance side of it really lacking.
1st. The toilets and shower blocks were really not well kept at all, there were cobwebs everywhere.
Also the waste disposal really did not smell nice at all. Could do with a really good clean.
Also for the price you pay, which is not cheap when you have 2 children and an awning. Which you get charged for! The hook up has a very low voltage. So tripped every time I put the kettle on.
The park for the children is nice and the little shop on site is well stocked. They also have a swimming pool on site, which is £2. 00 per person. Feel that this could be cheaper for children as, again there were 4 of us.
Not much around apart from a pub which is about a 7 min walk.

Visited this campsite recently it was in a lovely area. Nice campsite, toilets are a bit outdated but they are supposed to be building new ones.
People have said about 20p for showers but you only need 1 20p as you get more than enough time. If you want nice pubs go into radcliffe only 1. 5 miles away decent take aways as well.
Only down side was tents and caravans together. We had a large group in front of us which were very noisy considering signs on site saying 10. 30 noise curfew. Also the children were playing football and Frisbee in and out of all the caravans kept hitting ours.
We were near the warden and they still didn't do anything. Apart from that a very nice campsite.

When I was here it rained for 80% of the time so this may have coloured my opinion a bit.
Generally a nice site. The pitches are not too close together and we had a large area of grass in front of our pitch. Water was not too far away.
The toilet block was a bit basic and showers cost 20pence for a couple of minutes (not sure exactly how long). I generally spent 40pence per shower.
They have an indoor pool that has to be booked.
The gate barrier requires a PIN to open. This can be a bit of a pain getting in an out.
There was a take away van on site most days but no pub or restaurant. There was pub just a few minutes away though.

Just returned from 5 day stay. Level, well drained pitch. Reasonable size, although not marked out so difficult to know exactly where it started and ended.
There is no sign at all of the new toilets construction, and they are much needed. Current toilet block is old and tired. Having to pay for showers is an old fashioned idea, and as they do not appear clean (may purely be down to the age of the shower/toilet block), it only adds insult to injury.
Swimming pool is very warm and our children enjoyed using the facility.
Staff were efficient.
The on site shop doesn't stock papers, bread but does have milk. It isnt cheap and as Sainsburys is a 5 minute drive away in Cotgrove, it is easier to go there.
The carvery pub nearby is very cheap, and this reflects in the food. As another reviewer said, it is fine if you know what to expect!
Park and ride bus stop very useful for journey into Nottingham.
