Stayed at Thornton Holt in August and had a lovely weekend. As mentioned by other campers the toilet block is a little dated but generally clean and a new one is being built. The site is great lots of pitches both grass and hardstanding there is also a little shop on site for a few basics. There are lots of chickens roaming the site and do be careful as they are nosey and have no problem climbing steps to have a look inside your motorhome! Only one issue very poor television reception they could do with an ariel booster system, but that's not so important. Overall a great site, quiet and friendly will go again.

Stayed here for the weekend arrived fri afternoon, nice established site.
Staff friendly on check in and directed to our pitch which was hardstanding and level.
Booked using the online system which is quick and easy, didn't like the fact that you have to state your nationally the choice being British, Scottish, Welsh, Irish and the rest of the world. Why no English??
Caravans around the outside and tents in the middle, not sure why they couldn't have kept a field separate for tents and caravans as people in tents are generally louder than caravanners and we were woken at 7am by kids playing football and screaming, bit of road noise in the evening otherwise peaceful.
Small indoor pool which is booked 24hrs in advance and was fully booked until Sunday morning so if you want to swim you need to wait for the shop to open and hopefully it won't be booked up.
Toilet block is a bit dated but adequate, showers are 20p for about 3 min but as previous reviews there is a new one under construction.
Nice play park for the young ones and lots of chickens running free.
I had no mobile or Internet, tv signal good, only 10 amp hookup.
Not far to Nottingham by car and there is a good pub nearby.
Overall a pleasant stay but don't think we would return.

What a lovely long weekend we have just had at Thorntons Holt.
Due to traffic arrived later than 5pm but phoned ahead and check in was not a problem at all, helpful and friendly. We had requested a hardstanding pitch but was unaware that unit and awning was required to be on hardstanding so requested to move to a grass pitch and again this was accommodated without a problem.
The site is level, very spacious and immaculately kept, barrier entrance for added security (not that we ever felt it was needed). Plenty of grass space for the children to mix and play games on without any danger of a stray ball or frisbee doing any damage, with a well equipped play area if climbing and swinging was more the required activity. In addition to this there is an on site swimming pool which again was very well maintained.
As mentioned on previous reviews they are undergoing problems with the new shower block but to be honest the original is fine, but can't wait to see the finished building up and running, looks amazing.
The site location is great for Nottingham city and plenty or other outdoor surrounding attractions. Supermarkets are within 4 miles and cheap pub just 2 minutes walk away.
All in all, a great site, very grateful to our friends for recommending it to us, we will do the same and return soon.
Thanks.

A great site for families, lots going on and a very busy site at weekends. Facilities a bit dated but currently building a new shower block. Swimming pool a great addition. Tip: if you want quiet, ask for a pitch away from the playground. Could benefit from an area for walking dogs, as the only place is to actually walk is around the tents and caravans.

Just returned from a great weekend at this lovely site. We wanted somewhere local to spend with friends and this site ticked all the boxes.
The site is reasonably priced, well maintained and very clean. There are a selection of areas to choose from and they all appeared to be of a good size and flat. We were in a area where the pitches were all on the outside leaving the centre free for children and adults to play ball games etc and the area was well used all weekend.
There is a small swimming pool which was reasonably priced and a small park although we did not use these facilities.
The toilets/showers were clean but a bit outdated but there is a new toilet/shower block being built at the moment but they do not have a date when this will be completed.
The site was easy to find and well signposted.
There is a pub just across the road which serves reasonably priced meals.
I would certainly recommend this site and will definitely use again.

Great site, worth the money they charge, great swimming pool, local pub is great, nice food and beer, phone reception not too good, great children's play area and at £20 a night, worth every penny. Once the new toilet block is complete, will be even better. This site is definitely worth visiting. The meadow field is flat and although I stayed on hard-standing, will try the field next time. Will definitely be returning soon.

Visited this site to try out a recently bought trailer tent before venturing further afield. Our pitch was flat, and there is plenty of space so we didn't feel overcrowded.
I had been concerned about the toilet facilities based on previous reviews, but to be honest I've seen a lot worse! They were clean and had plenty of cubicles so we never had to queue. The new block is still under construction and looks HUGE.
The play area was a bit tired, but my 2 enjoyed it. They also loved meeting the resident cockeral, hens, ducks and horses.
We enjoyed a great walk to cotgrave country park, and back along the grantham canal.
We didn't visit the shop or pool, so can't comment.

1st trip out this year so went local so Booked 4 nights over the Bank Holiday using their online system which was very efficient, arrived at site at around 2. 00pm to find a bit of a queue with people booking in. Walked round to Reception to find a large party booking in (The Units Queuing)and dividing the cost between them so took a little time but no real problem. We were greeted warmly by Polly and duly handed over our Booking Confirmation, as there were no outstanding pitch fee's we were given a little printed map with highlighted route and gate codes etc and off we went. First impressions of the site were very good, it was nice and tidy and clearly well tended, we were pitched in The Meadow which was nearly empty as it was so early, getting on the pitch was a bit of a struggle as the grass was not quite fully dry but we got there eventually and were hooked up to the nearby electric in no time. We had a wander around the site which was filling up nicely with a mixture of units and all shapes and sizes. There are free roaming Chickens that our Grand Daughter thought were great, there is also quite a decent park to keep the little ones entertained too and she took full advantage.
There is a Swimming Pool on site but cant comment as we did not use it. The toilet block is frankly 'Tired' but all the same very usable and was spotlessly clean even though at times the site was extremely muddy! The Elsan was nice and clean and had a tub of sanitizer on the side for you to use once you had emptied, a nice touch.
Out and about there is a pub across the road 'Shepherds' that is part of the Crown Carveries chain and quite nice, but anything beyond 'Meat and Veg' and it is struggling, there are supermarkets close by with a Sainsbury Local in Cotgrave (5 Minute Drive away) and a massive Morrisons at Gamston which is about 10 minutes drive. There is frequent public transport also if you fancy a trip into Nottingham City Centre.
It did rain heavily while we were there and the field we were in became somewhat of a quagmire, in fact so much that we even got our car stuck and had to be pulled out by Simon and his Tractor, in that time I got talking to Simon and talk turned to the Construction of the new Toilet Block and as I am in the building game I got a guided tour of the site which was pretty good, all I can say is when they are finished they are going to be superb and a real boon for the site, its just a pity the suits in our Banking Industry seem to think differently, also, from an individual (Simon) who has little experience of the Construction Industry the quality of the workmanship undertaken by him so far would put time served Tradesman to shame. Keep going Simon, it will happen!
In summary, although we did not have great weather it was an enjoyable 4 days and we would certainly return once again, just might book a Hard Standing Pitch next time!

Thornton's Holt is one of a handful of sites near to home that we visit each year. Been coming for about 30 years and have watched its rise and fall.
Unfortunately this year things had deteriorated somewhat. When we arrived reception was open but with nobody there; we had to call around the site until we found someone who reluctantly booked us in. Although there is no notice in reception, we were charged 85p to pay by credit card - illegal in this form, and we've never had it before. Also no tariff board on display. Not given a receipt either.
As we had previously agreed over the phone which pitch we would be on, didn't need to be shown and headed straight up there.
The new facility/reception block is now at least recognisable if still a 'work in progress'. At present rate I reckon it will be 2017 before it's operational. In the meantime the old very tired toilet and shower blocks continue - with a lack of maintenance very obvious. (The hair dryer in the ladies' has not worked for over two years!) Some taps didn't work, nor did the hand dryers for more than 5 seconds. It also has to be said that we never saw any staff member during our whole 5 day stay! All this is a pity, as Thornton's Holt could be a very good site, and despite the notice saying that the bank has reneged on it promises, I don't believe that a good corporate finance broker could not have solved the problems months ago.
The site location is good, with access to Nottingham and West Bridgford towns very easy, and a frequent bus service from close to the entrance. A52 East or West, A606 to Melton & A60 to Loughborough all very easy to access.
The Shepherds pub across the road is still cheap and nearly cheerful - but you do 'gets what you pays for', so don't expect cordon bleu! (or cordon anything!)
Cotgrave village is well serviced with shops - two small supermarkets, fish & chips, chinese and indian take-aways. Also a nice little tea rooms opposite Sainsburys.
Cotgrave country Park is nice for a relaxing stroll.
We will continue to come here - but only off peak and because it's convenient. However have downrated it now - more effort needs to be put into customer service and the facilities.

Great site, great holiday. We spent 4 nights at this lovely site. The children loved the park and swimming pool, whilst older members of the party were able to find quieter areas to spend their time.
The toilets are a little tired, but they were clean and the water was hot, which is really all we ask for. It really looks like this park is going to get better and better. The owners are putting in a great deal of work, and were working on the new facilities block every day while we were there. Lovely flat, gravely hard standing pitches. We will be back, as we have more of Nottingham to explore.
Site is very close to Loudhams and Fullers caravans, if you fancy a look at a new caravan.
