Positives: gorgeous site, lots of hardstanding space for caravan, awning, car and room for the kids to play. Fruit trees everywhere. Fabulous new toilet block, the best I've ever found on a campsite. A family/disabled area is available too. Even the toilet emptying section had a sink and soap for your hands (that's rare). Met 5 staff, all fab, friendly, helpful and polite. Chickens are fun to watch. Easy to find. Lots to do nearby.
Not so positives: pool could do with being a bit warmer and have a rail to help those not so able bodied in and out. Changing rooms and some woodwork in the pool area need upgrading. But are adequate.
Play area needs some quite urgent attention as some areas were closed off and items were broken. But it is clear the owners are working really hard to improve the facilities and we are looking forward to returning to see what has been improved.
If the owner reads this I would suggest some heavy duty play equipment for kids of all ages. It's not just the little ones that like somewhere to go.

Third time visiting - lovely site with big pitches, plenty of space for the kids to play (especially on the back field). New toilets now open and they are huge, warm and free showers, lovely and clean. Well worth the wait.
Near the National Water Sports Centre too - loads to do there for all ages.

Very pretty site but if you want a gazebo you need to book another pitch! You will be asked to take it down. It's a shame the running of this site lets it down by their strict rules. Staff aren't very courteous.

We have been coming here for 14 years and 9 of those we have had a seasonal pitch. A beautiful location with immaculate grounds. Bus service to Nottingham very convenient, with a pub close by. This month the new facilities block has been temporarily opened as it is almost complete. WOW well done Simon & Polly it's been well worth waiting for, let's hope the campers give it the respect it well deserves. Although, due to no fault of your own, it's taken a while to build the block Simon's dedication and hard work has paid off. 10/10. Would recommend this site to anyone.

Campsite was nice but freezing cold showers that you had to pay for! Staff not very courteous and when I mentioned the showers had no hot water I was basically told to get up earlier! Tried that but still freezing! Other issue was if you were unfortunate enough to have a pitch near the hen house, you were awakened to the rather annoying sound of cockerels at the crack of dawn!

This was our first visit to this campsite, being new owners of a motorhome we wanted somewhere not to far from home while we tried everything out. We were welcomed by friendly helpful staff. We found the site clean and tidy, electric worked ok and toilet facilities although dated were warm and very clean. There was a small play area near to us for children, ponies in the next field and chickens, cockerels walking around. The shop had adequate supplies. We didn't use the swimming pool so can't comment on that but looking in at it seemed nice and clean. We took two of my grandchildren aged 6 and 2 and 3 small dogs and must say we all had a good time and enjoyed our weekend break there. The only fault I could find on this site. There wasn't any bins around the site to allow you to put the used doggie bags in and they can't be dropped into the main dustbins, other than that for a quiet place to stay we will be going back.

Lovely site. Great pitches. Poor Toilet facilities. New ones in progress but have been for 3 yrs still not completed and for the prices charged I feel it is very expensive. Weekend at the coast would have been same price with top facilities. Also rude staff. Back to Holmes Pierpont next time we go local.

We booked in here for Easter weekend as there web page boasted this site to be excellent well to say we were disappointed is and understatement at a charge of £33 per night for caravan ecu and awning the pitch we were given was not big enough for our caravan our tow hitch was near the road I would have said the pitch was for a small tent we where stuck on the a corner into the next field so everyone kept staring as they went past, people walking there dogs and letting there dogs go to the toilet in front of our van not a nice sight when your eating your breakfast the electric kept tripping, for the size of the site and how many pitches you had to walk a fair way to the toilets(yes they are building new toilet and shower block not enough to service 150 pitches the elson point and grey waste was by the toilets so if your pitch is not by the barrier you had a long walk don't think it is worth the money that they charge and will not be returning

We have now stayed here four times in as many months and can say with some experience, that this site is run for the convenience of the owners. They care little for their clientele.
The chickens are quarantined under Avian Flu rules, the staff are still young, inexperienced and sniffy, and the new toilet/shower block, several years on, is still under construction. For goodness sake, get it done! Paying for substandard showers in substandard facilities is simply not on. They are a disgrace.
Why do they lock up their laundry facility at 5 pm? The only reason we could see is because they knock off at 5. However, they have a warden, much use they seem to be. So why can't they lock it up at a more reasonable time? Also, why do they allow people to arrive any time of the night? They simply leave their arrival packet in a box outside reception. The rest of the campers are then subject to noise, cars revving, children running around, dogs barking etc while the owners are blissfully unaware. Again, the warden is never in evidence.
They are not cheap, but they are failing in every respect to deserve your money. We will not go again, and we suggest you vote with your feet and find somewhere else. We will.

We have stayed at Thornton's Holt on more than one occasion this year, and like other reviewers we have found the site to be well maintained with hard standing and grass pitches, some with electrical hookups and all with nearby water standpipes. There is a playground, an indoor pool (fee chargeable), and a small shop. WiFi is available in the area of the shop. The site promotes a quiet time, which we have found to be observed, and it is accessed via a coded barrier. Chcickens run around freely which is lovely and there is the odd cat or horse to be seen too.
The shower/toilet/wash facilities are indeed old but they are cleaned daily. The new block still hasn't been completed, but the owner was still working on it late into our last visit.
Nearby there is a chain pub which does budget breakfasts and carvery meals, and there is a bus stop outside for transport to West Bridgford and Nottingham.
Now for the negatives. There is a storage facility for caravans and motor homes within a central area of the site (just opposite the toilet block) which houses a number of seemingly long forgotten vehicles that appear not to have seen a bucket of soapy water for a long time. This area despoils the site which is a shame.
Secondly, while we have always found the owners to be polite, friendly and helpful, our latest visit was marred by an inexplicably rude young member of staff who was frosty and officious. This put a dampener on our stay.
However, we will return and would heartily recommend the site.
