Quite a large bustling site with plenty of character and interesting animals! The kids really loved this site, with plenty of space for them to play in and the games room was also a winner. On the down side for the adults I do feel the shower block could do with a refurbishment, despite the constant cleaning which it did get. Plus points included the large chest freezer for open use.very useful in mid July! Also despite the number of people on site the noise curfew is well respected. Good base for lots of interesting days out near bye. Highlights for us included the National Space Centre in Leicester and Belton House in Grantham.

We enjoyed our weekend stay, lots for the kids to do. Toilets and showers left a bit to be desired. But otherwise enjoyed our stay. Was good to have swimming pool for kids when hot. Plenty for kids to enjoy

This is our 2nd visit to Thorntons Holt, and we really love it, kids call it the 'chicken place', with all the animals wandering around. On both visits we have had good plots, and have had NO problems. The shop is well stocked and the pool is a refreshing relief in the summer. Some nice walks along the unused railway, or the local canal banks.

Turned up late friday evening , just as the sun was going down. Not such good idea even in the summer. The shop was still open and we were greated very kindly and shown to the site. The field we were shown to was great, hardly anyone on, fully serviced for our tent's. Staurday - Had a really good look around and found to our amazment the site was really really well looked after, free range chickens and horses were also guests at the site. It took us back to the good old days when you felt free and safe. the kids play area was great and everyone was friendly. If only we got pitched at the back of the site in the Orchards it would have been even better. If you do go here, try the apples and pears from the orchard, they taste so sweet. Best kept secret around Nottingham. Will be back again next season.

Went here for our 1st camping trip, and was pleased with the sites location and basic but clean facilities.
Had a walk in to Cotgrave via the canal and counrty park - very tranquil.
Only gripe would be the shop opening times as mentioned in other reviews.
Will probably make a return trip though.

August 2005 Very Very busy campsite with a good walk to the toilets for little ones (or big ones through the night!), washing facilities etc from the far camping field we were on. It appeared to us that this site catered more for caravans and motorhomes etc. The swimming pool was lovely and clean however as were the bathrooms and wash rooms.

June 2005 We have stayed at Thorntons Holt quite a few times and came back yet again in June and from checking in we were looked after, taken to our pitch, excellent sevice, we had a large party of children next to us and thought it would be noisy, well it was far from it - fourteen kids and teenagers not a sound.
Recommended for families, lovely walks along the Grantham canal, beautiful countryside, even had a chat with Larry [a seventeen year old horse in the paddock] loves carrots.
Have couple of days there you will like it.

April 2005 We visited this site with 3 other families for the weekend this May Bank Holiday (2005). The site was very busy and we were placed in the “Paddock”, which quickly turned into a mud bath when the rain came down. The ground was not drained and so the water lay on the surface instead of draining away like it seemed to be doing on every other pitch on the site. Not a happy experience!
The site was interesting because of the farm animals, and the children had a good time, but the swimming pool was very overcrowded and needed some supervision and cleaning.
The local pub was great and served really good hot food. We were disappointed overall with the site though and will not be returning.

September 2004 Camped here for a weekend last year. Stayed on nice field with tents around the edge and large grassy area in teh middle for kids to play. Nice site with relaxing atmosphere.
Toilets/ showers fairly basic but clean. Pool was good idea but always packed! Kids had a great time and would definitely return again. Did not venture off the site as only went for weekend with friends!

June 2005 Chose this site as venue for our first camping trip. Wasn't disappointed. Camped in large field, which had the pitches around the side and left the middle free for games.Had nice large pitch. Right next to the busy road, but wasn't as bad as I first thought. Enjoyed having the free range chickens wandering around. Clean facilities and plenty of them...never had to queue and the place was full. Nice owners. Little shop that could have longer opening hours. Didn't use the pool, but it seemed popular, was always full.
