We arrived at this site and was given our pitch number. The person who gave it us then said hold on you have kids would you like a pitch near to the play park and toilets.
The result was a great pitch less than 100 yards from the play area. Large pitching area for our 12 berth pod tent vango 800dlx the park was locked 9 - 930pm each night and reopened around the same time in the morning.
Farm shop had basics and games room a bit outdated but everything within the games room was free so had no moans about it, we never sampled the swimming pool. But was told by other campers it was well laid out.
We found this site to be very central for nottingham. Will be back whenever we are in the area again

A lovely campsite!
We stayed here for 10 days in August with 2 children aged 3 and 8. It rained frequently but we had no problem with the ground. Plenty of space for each pitch as well as a large area of grass left free for playing.
Toilets - In the 10 days we were there they were always clean and had a plentiful supply of paper. Showers - a generous 3 minutes of hot water; there are plans to modernise the blocks in Autumn 2010 which is good because they are rather outdated and it would be nice to have thermostats on the showers.
The playground was fun with a variety of interesting things. The games room was ok for my 8 year-old but it could do with a good hose-out! After playing a few games of table-tennis the dust flying around caught my throat and I had to get some fresh air.
We took our bikes and the local Cotgrave Park has some good paths for family cycling. We also went along some of the local tow paths which were very pretty. You could easily cycle into Nottingham itself.
The staff were friendly and easily identifiable by their uniform tops. The chickens were adorable and wandered happily around the campsite (Beware, they'll wander into your tent if you leave the door open while washing up!)
There is a freezer available for free. The swimming pool was warm and the quota system worked well to prevent overcrowding. Tricky if you don't know your plans though.
The 10.30 curfew worked perfectly on site.
To summarise, a friendly, spacious family campsite very close to Nottingham. Small enough not to get lost but big enough to have a shop and a swimming pool. 30-40 minutes to Sherwood Forest and a pilgrimage to Major Oak. Facilities need updating.

We found this a very friendly site and would highly recommend it. All 3 of our children loved the site, which had plenty of space for them to run around. They loved the animals, play area, etc.
We made use of the swimming pool one evening, booking it out and sharing the cost (£25 per hr)with two other families that we camped with, again the children loved it.
The toilet and shower area were clean and tidy and as previous people have said (at the minute)are little dated, but hey, we're camping. I'm told that this area will undergo a major refurbishment during October 2010, with somewhere in the region of £250K being spent, therefore I imagine that this will involve taking down the old building and erecting a new one, including a new games room and probably other improved facilities.
We visited the carvery up the road - Great food, great value for money. There's a Morrison's about 5 mins drive away, which also has a great family pub nearby with indoor/outdoor kids play area. Loads of things to do in the area - Sherwood forest, Nottingham Castle, City of Caves, National Space Centre (Leicster), etc.
Overall it's a good site to visit and one that me and my family will be returning to next year.
With improved facilities this will be a cracking site in 2011.

We stayed overnight as a stop off, we found this to be a site for regulars permanently pitched. The other close by campers were friendly enough. We didn't have much sleep due to loud music being played in the distance (not sure where it was coming from) and due to the chickens waking us up early.
It's a nice site, but bit pricey. Toilets and shower block tidy but dated. Kids loved the park and open space.(games room bit disappointing. No lights and equipment was old and very worn, missing peices and bit grubby) shop had everything you needed and was reasonably priced.
Not far from nottingham town centre (5-10 mins drive) pool looked clean but we never used it due to the time we arrived as we only stayed 1 night.

Just returned from a long weekend at Thorntons Holt, what a great campsite. Very spacious, tents not crowded in, which meant space for the kids to play without getting too near other tents.
The swimming pool is a fantastic addition and the children loved it. The only down side is the toilets and showers are ready for a renovate, which apparently is happening oct 2010.
Quite new to this camping lark, but this is the best site we have visited so far.

Spent 2 night's here with friend's and both party's loved it. Nice spacious pitches, kids loved having the freedom to run around and play. The resident chicken's where great and would come to see what we was having to eat every time we sat down at the table lol.
There is a kid's park and the kid's spent a lot off time playing on there so I guess it was good! We did use the swimming pool and it was nice and warm, agree 20p for a shower is a little cheeky.
Toilet block's look very dated and did have cobweb's but on the whole they where clean on our stay. Does look off putting when you first see them as it is a converted barn but you get use to it.
Small shop on site but this is aim more at kids with the small games and sweets on sale. We used the local Sainsburys for any bits we needed to buy.
The pub 5 minute walk away was fab and can highly recommend it! We had a carvery and pudding for 3 adults and 2 kids for £28 and that also included 2 lots off drinks plus the pudding portions are Hhhuggggeeee
Will we be returning. Oh yes and I can't wait.

Our 2nd camping trip. A short weekend trip not far from home. The site was clean and tidy facilities a little dated. We thought the site seemed popular with families.
Several campers had loud music, which we were well away from this might have disappointed us had we been next to them. We were allocated a plot in the dog field which we only discovered half way through putting the tent up, not a problem but would have like to have known.
Well spaced out pitches and nice and flat. There is a little shop which has limited opening times.

Having read the previous reviews I will try to be as accurate and comprehensive as I can
We had booked into this site for 4 nights 12th to the 16th July. The site itself is fine and well kept, we had been placed in the orchard the ground is somewhat hard so rock pegs are required for the awning. You will only be allowed on site after 1pm for some reason not explained. This meant we had to sit about for over an hour at a lay-by as the previous site had to be vacated by 10am. I could see no reason why this rule was strictly enforced since nothing was done to any of the pitches that a few people vacated while we where there other than to cut the grass, and that was also done around our pitch at the same time, Water points are well placed and easily accessible, pitches are level and the electric points are close by
Toilet building has a tiled floor and is also tiled in the showers. The appearance is very much outdated and in a lot of places covered with cobwebs, I for one would not say it was very clean and as far as I seen they only got cleaned once in the morning and then only very briefly. Wife reported the same with the ladies toilet and also said the toilets had the same dirty marks on the bowls for 2 days before they eventually did get cleaned, floor was also rather dirty and she never seen them get cleaned
The only source for drying your hands is two hand driers; these could not be activated by my 4 year old Grandson as they are placed too high up, same problem with the soap dispensers. Showers are though very good and also warm and for the 20p do last long enough, at least they are not the push button type ones you have to keep pressing
If you are away at the back of the site it will be quite a trek to get to them. And you will also need some sort of torch as in place it’s very badly lit
The children’s play park was padlocked the whole time of our stay, I assume this was because the English school holidays had not yet started and they never seen the need to open them. I am sure if asked they would have opened them, but why should we need to ask since there was a few young children on site ???
Waste disposal is at the stable block and to get to the waste point does involve dodging the manure on the path (I know it’s a farm but why have it there)
Access to the site is by a coded gate this is not an automatic type gate so you have to get out, enter the code, swing the gate open, drive through then get out and close the gate. All fine if your able bodied or its nice weather or if you have a passenger but a bit of a pain in a down pour or by yourself
Swimming pool is great though and very warm. Only gripe with that was after your swim there is indeed a shower in the pool area. Only once again this requires 20p to operate it, bit cheeky since you have paid to use the pool, and since I went with no money meant getting dressed and then going for a shower
Washing machine on site is also rather outdated and from the wife’s point of view rather ineffective as washing came out dirty and still covered with washing powder even after doing the same load twice (and that took about 3 hours in total and it was not a full load) same with the tumble dryer …some what expensive as well with £2 a go for washing machine and 50p for drier, though used £4 in that and still never dried the washing
Never really used the shop but its got a few basic items in there, can’t comment on any near by pubs or eating establishments as we never use them. TV reception was fine so long as you are not directly on front of the large tress, if so you will need to have the Arial up some height to get decent reception. Site does seem to have a lot of caravans that are on site but not occupied, these seem to have taken the best pitches
Nearest shop and fuel is about 10 minutes driving away (Morrison’s store)
Not a bad site, but outdated toilet block lets it down and in my opinion would greatly improve the site if they spent some money on that alone.
6 out of 10 could do better, it could well be because the park was not fully booked and no doubt it was after we had left due to the English schools breaking up at that time, but if that is the case then they really do need to rethink there cleaning ratio and charging structure if that is how they are operating
One other strange thing that myself and the adjoin occupant did comment on, since both of us was packing up at the same time the staff came and took what we presume was an electric reading from the point we both used!

This was our second visit to this site.Pitches are flat and of good size and unlike some sites tents are not crowded into every possible space. This leaves a large area in the centre of the field for children to play.
The facilities were clean but dated, there is only one block which meant quite a walk from the field we were in. The pool is good but make sure you book as places are limited, the changing area and toilet however were dirty.
Our children enjoyed the play area, the games room has pool and table tennis tables but these were a little worse for wear. You can buy a few basic items (and lots of sweets) in the shop but it is not very well stocked-no bread when we went.
Overall a good site that we would return to again.

We stayed for 2 nights in June and had lovely weather which was a bonus! Lovely small site, complete with wandering ducks and rabbits! Showers bit old fashioned but adequate. Fab pub round corner serving a roast dinner for £3.50, must be the cheapest in the land but certainly nothing but good quality. East to get to and well signposted. Not too noisy at all considering there were quite a few kids on site. Very helpful lady in shop too with great info on local area. A great site and would visit again.
