We found the site easily, and booking in was fine, we were given a booklet with all site as well as local details listed.
Our pitch was a good size, flat and remained dry through the weeks heavy rain.
The site it's self is really nice, well set out, we were happy for our 5 year old to potter around to the park. The animals are a real nice touch and an area the park could develop further. However, the park was locked one day, and when it wasn't locked she wasn't able to open the gate and if we did get her in she couldn't get back out, minor point, but one that drove us mad. The park does need some attention, but the younger children didn't seem to mind.
Having read previous reviews we were hoping for a new shower block, but there doesn't appear to be any construction going on. The existing ones are tired, although relatively clean the age of them makes them appear dirty, my kids weren't too impressed. You still have to pop 20p in, which is plenty for a shower.
I would really like to see a new block, or a re fit, as it will put people off, it's a basic requirement now, along with family rooms with large sinks for smaller kids.
The washing up areas are plentiful as well as been indoors
We did use the pool, and it was great, lovely clean and warm water, it was £2 per person, but as the park was empty we had it all to ourselves.
We did go to the shepards and yes it is a Carvery, like any other, but you can have a beer, the football was on, and you can walk home. Bonus. We took some board games and sat in a corner
The cotsgrave connect into Nottingham is perfect, for four of us return it was £12, and the bus runs till late in the night, we got back around 9pm. Spent all day in Nottingham, plenty to do.
After a couple of days it became apparent both of us had experienced some negativity from one member of staff, however everybody else was lovely.

Easter Week
A lovely friendly campsite, we had a lovely quiet pitch for the majority of the week at one point we had the only tent in the top field. We had lots of rain (and ice cold sleet) and the drainage was very good we had no problems with flooding.
The swimming area was very nice and a welcome relief in the sub zero temps! The toilets and shower blocks were kept clean and tidy, some of the shower areas had separate areas to keep your clothes etc (always a good thing). Showers were 20p but you had more than enough time.
It did get very busy around good Friday for the weekend.
We visited the pub up the road for a carvery, it does get busy but was good value.
The pizza van on site was a godsend on a freezing cold night, lovely pizza and very good value for money.
We walked into Cotgrave to the Sainsburys for our supplies, but there was also parking and its on a bus route.
Some lovely walks and a haven for geocachers.
Will be adding to our list to revisit.

As expected from previous reviews; the toilet blocks are really dismal: dank and depressing. The rusty coin boxes on the wall requiring 20p pieces for a shower of luke warm water really aren't acceptable today.
The pizza van on site is very good, with delicious, reasonably priced pizzas hand-made when you order them. The pub up the road is good; nice breakfasts and reasonable carvery.
The swimming pool is adequate for kids. The play area looked quite good.
My biggest gripe has to be communications with the site. Two unanswered emails and one phone call. You cannot expect to run a business with such poor attention to customer service. If we hadn't already agreed to meet some friends there we wouldn't have bothered and we certainly wouldn't bother again unless there is a significant improvement in the showers and the service.
My low marks (the lowest I have ever given) reflect primarily the squalid ablution block and the site not replying to my emails and phone call.

First impressions count. A very good clean well managed site. Pitches are well placed with good hard standings for caravans and motorhomes.
You are given a comprehensive booklet on site information and local points of interest when you book in, which was very useful.
A new shower block is being constructed, but the present one is still adequate. Location is well placed for Nottingham and canal walks.
The village of only a short drive, where you can stock up on vitals from the local Sainsburys.
The Shepards Well Pub/Restaurant two minutes walk from the camp site is worth a vist for reasonable good food.
Thorntons Holt Camping Site is well worth a visit.

Booked at short notice due to great weather, not the easiest place to find if you don't know the area and lots of road works around the A52 so sat nav not much use. But once on the A52 look out for a set of traffic lights with a big white pub on the corner and that's the junction to take.
We arrived late in the dark but lady on reception waited for us, welcome pack and directed us to our plot. Very little lighting so make sure you have a light / torch for setting up.
Play area for kids up to 12 was always busy and well used. Site is really nice, shower block etc reasonable as all other reviews state. Plans in place for new shower block, shop and reception so will get better.
Didn't use the swimming pool but looks very nice.
Will be going back again real soon.

I stayed here for 2 weeks last year, and what a lovely site. Kids spent hours in the playpark, and the pitch was plenty big enough for us, car, dogs and the occasional visitor. There is a pizza van on site every evening, and the pub just outside the entrance is fantastic. Excellent food and good value too.
Staff were lovely, family mostly so much more of a personal touch, and very accommodating. Loos etc were always clean, and plenty of them. Pool is quite small, and you have to book a visit as it is not big enough for everyone to just come and go, but that wasn't a problem. Fresh eggs all the time, as chickens run free on the site, providing endless fun for the little ones. I will definitely visit again, cannot recommend it enough. Oh yes, it is just a little bit out of the city, so the quiet is wonderful, perfect silence at night.

We had a one night stop off here on the way down South.
Booking was easy and we got written confirmation posted to us before we set off. Checking in was just as straightforward which was in the shop.
You got a code to punch into the barrier and off you went, the pitch we had was hard standing which was level and shaded by trees but open to the rest of the field which was a mixture of tents and caravans.
We didn't really have time to explore the area but there was an indoor pool on site which we didn't use, a shop, an adventure playground and lots of free roaming chickens which my 2 year old spent most of her time perusing around the field.
The toilets and shower were well aged and could do with some investment but they were clean enough.
There is a pub close by which is a brewers fair type of establishment with a carvery on an evening, it was cheap but the quality suffered.
All in all a good value site, and I would definitely consider it for a stop off or a few days stay over.

Some details about us. Family of 4, 2 adults and 2 girls (14 and 12).
We found it a little tricky to find, but that's not down to the site, totally down to my Sat Nav. Phoned for directions and the staff were really helpful.
Simple and efficient check in process and really easy to find the pitch.
Pitches were clearly marked out and had plenty of room. We opted for electric hook up (with two girls what did you expect?) and thought the cost was reasonable.
As previous posters have mentioned the toilet blocks are quite tired, but there are plans posted on reception detailing the new building work they'll be doing over the winter months. It sounds great and should really improve the facilities. We didn't mind paying 20p per shower, although the time you got depended on which shower you used, but plenty of hot water.
Very nice.
The site itself if very clean and tidy, and the chickens etc wandering around were a lovely touch.
There is a playground on site, but we didn't use this, although it looked very nice.
Again we didn't use the pool but it looked OK. Although be warned you must book in advance, numbers per session are limited and get booked up very quickly.
We ate at the Shepherds Crown carvery and were quite disappointed. It was very chaotic. Would recommend that you go for a 40 minute drive to Seven Mile Inn in Manston. Again it's a Crown Carvery but just cannot be compared to Shepherds. The food was hot, vegetables cooked and plentiful and really friendly staff.
We used the site as a base to visit Alton Towers and Warwick Castle, and found the site perfectly located for these trips.
There's a large Morrisons supermarket about a 5 minute drive from the site.
This was our first time camping (having spent many years with a static caravan) and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Would definitely visit Thornton's Holt again.

What a fantastic place to stay we stayed here for two night, Very Friendly staff, Great size pitch, toilets and showers were great (it's 20p for a shower but this lasts to have a decent shower and they are warm can get busy on a Saturday morning!), we didn't use the pool but it looked nice from outside,
Grounds are well kept, great little shop on site, safe with the security barrier, And my perfect site even more because they are very keen on people recycling which I am all for.
Great pub round the corner you must visit and have the carvery this is the only food they serve but worth a visit if you only go once well worth the money.
The next village has food shops newsagents and a couple of pubs, We walked there as it was a lovely sunny day but it was quite a walk, so wouldn't recommend walking if you have small children,
all in all a fantastic place to stay and the chickens running around is a great feature for a fantastic campsite also a great pizza van calls around 4:00 and stays until around 10:00 very good prices and the pizza was freshly made and very nice.
Looks like this site will also only get better with new shower block and a cafe being built well worth a visit

Group of 21 (6 children)in 7 tents. Given our pitches, and have never been given such a large area per tent, giving us plenty of room.
The play area was close enough and the kids enjoyed it, they also liked to watch the chickens wandering about.
There was plenty of room to play games on the big field.
The on site shop had the basics, if you forgot something.
The Toilets were clean, but look like they are ready for redecorating.
The noise curfew states half past 10, and is strict.
Tried to book the indoor pool on the Friday, but was already booked up, so would advise booking, when booking your pitch if possible, or as soon as you arrive.
Didn't venture of site, as we take our own entertainment, so not sure what is close by.
A nice site with nice people.
Would recommend if you are after a nice quiet relaxing time.
