Just come back from a weekend at this all year round site (nice and peaceful this time of year). It's obvious that the pub across from the site didn't work last year as they tried to go up market. What a difference now though. It's been taken over and put back to a cheap and cheerful all day carvery for £3.50 and kid friendly again. A lot of work has been done over the winter at this site and we can't wait to go back in the summer.

Have just returned from 5 days camping at this site while working in Nottingham.
All of the site looks level and there is a security gate at the entrance.
The staff were friendly and seemed happy to help with any queries.
As discussed the toilet block is a little old, but so am I!, and really needs a good clean ( I wash on a regular basis ). The floor is clean but the skylights/upper areas of the walls are a somewhat dirty. 20p gets you a 3 minute shower. As the site was quite empty there was plenty of hot water and the shower lasted more like 5 minutes.
There is a laundry room which I didn't use and the dish washing room was fine.
As stated on the site there is an abundance of wild life, mainly chickens, which I quite like but there is normally a 5am wake up call from one of the roosters. If your tent/caravan was next to said rooster when he opened up it was be quite a shock.
Had a meal at 'Shepherds' which seems a little pretentious and not really a 'locals pub'. The meal was 'ok'. The menu was good with a starter being about £5 and a main at £9, puds £5.
Overall Thorntons Holt was a good site and I'd recommend it.

Just returned from a 2 night stay with friends, Site could be great but needs better toilet/shower facilities these were very dated and primitive. Also only 1 block for whole site, so quite a walk from most pitches. Swimming pool is very popular and there is limited spaces per session so unfortunately a lot of disappointed kids at busy times. Did not find some staff very friendly or helpful in fact quite rude. Awoke 4.30 every morning by the otherwise lovely chickens. On the plus side spacious pitches on a well set out site that was great for kids and ball games.

Nice site not much to do but OK for base to tour Nottingham . Found that pub across the road not suitable for kids as is a up market place . Staff friendly , showers clean and tidy only bad thing is that the waste points and water was a fair distance away from caravan if you were in the bottom field.

My parents were having our children for the weekend so we decided to go away to Thorntons Holt with our caravan. It was a glorious weekend and VERY RELAXING. The staff very friendly and helpful when asking about local walks and pubs. The local pub has been refurbished and is lovely, although not as children friendly as before (which was fine as we didn't have the kids with us!) - but the meal was beautiful. The showers, toilets and washing facilities are basic but clean, and when you walk out into free range chickens, peacocks and hens it is lovely. The shop is basic but the Sunday newspaper ordering service is well worth it! We enjoyed ourselves so much we booked to come back the next weekend with our family and my sisters family.

Stayed for four very long nights. Site was swarming with mosquito's, men's toilet block needs serious improvements you can see over the top of the shower stalls, 20p for 3 mins but you do not get 3 mins and you must get in quick or the hot water runs out. However my wife says that the women's are good and you get more than 3 mins typical lol. Play area desperate for repair but could be nice. games room again needs work no net on table tennis table etc. My main gripe the camp shop opens at 9.00 shuts for dinner 2 hours and then closes at 5.00 do they not realise this is a camp site, very over priced as well. Swimming pool was good nice and warm and i liked the way they regulated how many people entered but again it is only open for 4 sessions a day shuts way too early. With some repairs to the whole site and a few improvements this could be a fantastic site, i would prefer to pay more for better facilities. i do not think we will return. O be prepared to be woken at 4.30 by the cockerel.

Had a weekend at this site and really enjoyed it. Lots to do and see in the area and the site is nicely laid out. Plenty of toilets and they were clean. We didn't use the pool, but others said it was fine and they had a play area for the kids. The only problem I had with this site is that they don't have a dog walk area - lots of lovely parks, canals and walks around and about, but a little area on site would be handy.

Just come back from UKCS meet here. The site was flat and level with swimming pool (£2 for one and half hours). There's a site shop, selling the basics, a play area for the children and plenty of animals. Peacocks like to visit the awning at all hours, lol. The toilets are a bit warren-like but quite adequate and clean. All in all a good site with friendly staff.

Just returned from this site. pitches where very gernerous electric was good no tripping out on this site. Toilet block bit dated but very functional and had loads of toilets too. shower looked ok and the wife said very hot 20p for 3mins but she reckoned they where longer. Brilliant play park for the kids to play on and also a big field to play ball games, even have a volleyball net on it. Shops close by which includes chinky, indian and fish and chip shop. Site had a small shop so the kids could get sweets and ice cream. Horse's also on site and a friendly cockrel to arose you at 4:20am.lol. Dog friendly site all dogs on leads and all dog mess removed by their owners. A++ all round will be back to this one diffinatly.

Visited this site a lot last year as the grandchildren love it. And it isn't far from home for us. Peacocks ducks and chickens roam free. There are only 2 horses there now. The site has just been taken over by a young couple, and I noticed a lot of work has been done during the winter, the breeze block toilet buildings have been refurbished and the shop and reception extended. Security barriers and new fencing and roads in places resurfaced. The weather was bad when we went and the swimming pool has been completely re vamped and we spent more time in there. Will be worth a visit again when the sun comes out. Shepherds restaurant has also been taken over and is also being refurbished. The play area is as it was, but the games room has now got 2 pool tables, a table football thing and table tennis table which all are free. There is a very good park and ride system to visit Nottingham from the Colwick race course well signposted from the site as driving and parking in the city centre is naff
