July 2004 We have just spent a nice restfull weekend here, with two other families.I must admit I thought overall the site was adequate for a nice break, but like other reviewers have said, the toilet / shower blocks need a little upgrading. All of our kids had a fantastic time, with plenty of space to play and they all enjoyed the play area, however the "death slide" wasn't in use, it might have something to do with the "compensation culture" that we now live in. Overall very good site and we all said that we would return.

July 2004 Originally booked for 2 nights, but extended our stay as we loved this site. Owners were so friendly and good with the kids. They loved the huge selection of sweeties in the shop, hens roaming about, playpark, swimming. Excellent fun factory just over the road. We didn't have a problem with toilets, have seen a lot lot worse. Great rainy/sunny day activity at Wonderland, Melton Mowbray (about 30 mins drive). Definitely would go back.

July 04 Nice location, great for kids and large parties. Not a place for quiet, adult get-away breaks.
The pub nearby is also well set up for kids with indoor and outdoor play area. The children's menu is good value for money.
It's a shame that the shower/toilet block has not been modernised as this seems to be a recurring theme in all the feedback. But you can put up with a little inconvenience!
Would consider returning, but only with the kids.

May 2004 This campsite is very pleasant to stay at. The campsite is within easy reach of Nottingham city centre, but, just far enough away to be away from the 'hussle and bustle'. Being set on a farm makes it good fun for young children and the play area highlights this fact. The toilet facilities could do with updating but, were perfectly adequate for our needs. The Brewers Fayre pub is within walking distance. All in all this is a cheap and cheerful site ideal for famillies with children and with a great family atmosphere. We would definitely return.

July 2003 Agree with most of previous comments. However we had no problems with other kids; we have a big outfit and were placed in a different area with what appeared to be the long stay brigade. The tenting area I would see could suffer though as this was next to the play and ball games area.
This site has dated but tidied up and adequate facilities, small site shop and helpful staff.
The kids thought this was a fab site (play area, duck pond, roaming chickens, swimming pool and room to safely cycle around).
We visited Ferry Farm Park at Hoveringham which cost £14 2 adults and 2 kids and this was a low key place with animals and a variety of play equipment (trampolines and zip lines included) A great day out. The Colwick race course is only about 15mins away for horse racing or greyhounds (we did the dogs and the kids enjoyed that too).
Would visit again as only 40 mins away for us (Derbyshire). Cost £25 Fri and Sat night school summer hols inc hook up (stayed to 4pm Sunday as no one coming onto pitch that day).

August 2002 Have just spent a weekend here with the wife and 4 kids, (only 2 are mine thank goodness). The site itself offers plenty for the kids including an excellent play area and a games rooms with table tennis, tv and a few other bits for a rainy day. There is plenty of space if you fancied a game of footy or rounders.
The shop is adequate for essentials eg soft drinks, ice creams, information etc. There was an indoor swimming pool but we did not venture in there so cannot comment on that.
There were adequate numbers of toilets, wash up sinks, laundry facilities etc but the state of them all left a lot to be desired, The toilets, although cleaned regularly, were very dated and a simple shower curtain or duck board would have improved the showers ten fold.
The showers were 20p and mine ran for about 6 mins and constantly changed between nice and hot to shockingly cold, so I actually missed half the shower waiting for it to get hot again.
There were chickens wandering free and people riding their horses in the equestrian part of the site which kept the youngsters amused for a while.
Overall for £14 per night (inc electric) I would come again but next time I want to go to Sherwood Forest I will camp a little closer, this site was just under 20 miles to the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre and about 6 miles to Nottingham centre.

Jun2 2002 Satyed one night here and t was fine. It is lively which is a good thing with young children but not too much. The 10.30 pm noise reduction idea seemed to be observed by everyone.
Facilities seem a little old but the owners seem to have done thoer best to tidy them up. Some modernisation would be useful but nothing that is essential.
The pub is about 100m away. A pretty place which is part of the Brewers Fayre chain and has a Charlie Chalks.

I visited Thornton's Holt on the 13th May 2000 with my mother and sister with the view of visiting Nottingham.Thorntons Holt Camp site is only 100m from the bus stop which will take you directly into Nottingham City Centre, which is excellent for shopping.Thorntons Holt is also an excellent base for visiting other sites around Nottinghamshire such as Bevoir Castle, Clumber Park and Sherwood Forest. However, if you are looking for a quiet camp site without screaming kids then this camp site is not for you, we were woken up at approximatly 6.30 - 7am by the little darlings. The camping area is also around the edge of a field that doubles as a playing field for the kids. So if you are not being woken up by them you are dodging footballs. The swimming pool is in excellent condition although please remember if staying at this Camping facility on a weekend when you buy your ticket (which costs £1) please state which session it is for Morning/Afternoon or Evening or the staff can get a little tense about it (p.s the shower in the swimming pool also costs 20p for 3 minutes hot shower to wash the pool water off also).
