We visited Thorntons Holt over new year and it was our first time.
Things Good
1 nice play area 2 nature walks 3 nice and quiet 4 the chickens 5 the wildlife 6 the pub over the road (Great food)
The Bad Things
1 The toilet blocks are clean unheated and out dated. 2 We were supposed be on hard standing and it only just managed to fit the caravan. We were covered in mud every time I filled the water barrel or emptied the toilet.(We were situated in the orchard area). 3 Only some of the staff on the site are nice. 4 On the section we were on there was no water and we had to walk some distance to the toilet blocks to fill up. 5 The site was ok but lots of bits and bobs with the fields that have been added on making it messy in its lay out.
But if all you want is the basic amenities and run every thing from your caravan, have children or a dog, don't mind roughing it then you will love this camp site.

Nice welcome from staff but they changed the barrier entrance code whilst we were out in the city and but for another camper we would not have been able to get in. However, toilet block / shower are reasonable, but I agree with other reviews in as much as the 20p charge for showers is a bit ott nowadays, as it is not cheap for low season and considering the swimming pool is closed. The hens still wonder around and the hard-standings are good, but there is a problem finding the site, as the postcode used is not accurately recognised by satnav systems, so you finish up about a mile or so down the road. I would advise you check location on their web first and use ordinary map when in the area. Otherwise, very handy for Nottingham City centre which has fantastic shopping, both inside (Victoria centre) and the old part of town by the market which is all outdoors with all the big stores and upmarket shops / bars / eateries. Excellent city nowadays for tourism and shopping. Only 10 mins from site.

Had a two night stay here & can honestly say it was a lovely site. Although the facilities were a little dated & could do with a re-vamp, they were all in good working order.
The kids loved the animals & the play areas, but were not too keen on the pool as when we went in the afternoon the water was far too cold to be swimming in (having said that it would be lovely in summer!)
I would visit again.

For my first camping experience I could not be more pleased with this site. Nice spacious plot for the tents, plenty of toilets / showering and washing facilities. Aim for the showers after around 9 as you seem to get more than the allocated 3 mins for your 20p. The chickens and roosters wandering about was a delight with an occasional rabbit hopping about too. A minute or 2 walk away to The Shepherd's pub with a £3.50 carvery and not badly priced pint. Grantham canal isn't too far either and a nice walk can be had.

The site was one of the best I've been to. The entertainment was fantastic. And at 10.30 the sites started to get quiet. Which was good.
The showers were a bit old. I agree. And to pay for them was not the best. But they were right temperature.
Everything was organized and the workers were very nice.
A very good family holiday. The chickens where great fun. Its a highly good holiday for family's. And I recommend you go there.

Thorton's Holt is a fun, family friendly campsite with big pitches and room for any size tent whatever the weather.
I came to Thorton's Holt in May with a smaller pitch next to the playground, which was a bit of a pain as you get the screams from the children if they fall over or are over excited, which can be a bit annoying at first but you do get used to it after a while. On the plus side, we were very near the toilets, shop, laundry, washing-up, games room, pool and chemical disposal.
This time round, we were near the entrance. To get into the site you have to go through a metal barrier which slams shut when anyone closes it. It's really loud so that's usually what wakes you up in the morning.
Also, around 8 o'clock in the morning, around 100 Canadian geese fly overhead. They're extremely loud and our tent got covered in goose poo, so bring an extra cloth just in case, and don't leave chairs outside!
Again we were near the shop and cleaning facilities, which is always handy.
To close, I really enjoyed this site, and would visit again. Out of 10, 8.

Just got back from a nights stay and had a great time, the owners are very pleasant and helpful. The site itself is very clean and great for the kids they have a couple of horses and a lot of chickens running about every where. The park is clean with lots of climbing frames to play on.
The toilets and showers are very outdated and were not clean, they should be sorted out.
There is no bar on site but a quick walk down the road about 5 minutes away is the best bar / restaurant you will ever visit.
They do a carvery all day every day for £3.50 except Sunday which is £6.00 and worth every penny. The staff are pleasant and helpful.
I will be going back to this campsite very soon we all enjoyed our time here.

Spent 5 days there and it was perhaps a bit different to the standards I would expect having been used to using the C&CC sites. The loos were like a rabbit warren and not particularly clean but functional and I thought that charging 20p for a 3 minute shower was on the harsh side as you were paying a good whack per pitch per night anyway.
Supposedly quiet after 1030pm but Friday night was sheer hell, but to be fair to the owners they dealt with them first thing the next morning and made them leave.

Spent from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon at the site. Booked two pitches next door to each other, 4 adults and 2 children (one 3 years old, and one 3 months old).
Pitch sizes are fantastic, plenty of room.
Situated in the Paddock area, mix of Tents, Camper vans and caravans, but with a nice big green area in the middle, even though every pitch was taken, you didn't feel crowded or the site feel over busy.
The shop on site was good for essentials, but if you want bread - you have to be there early!
The swimming pool was used by my Fiancée, my Brother in Law and my niece, they said it was lovely and clean, if a bit on the small side! The site does limit numbers though on how many people are allowed in the pool.
The playground was fantastic also - it was always busy with kiddies and adults hovering keeping an eye on things.
The toilet / shower block was also nicely kept. The wash up areas were perhaps a little tired, but they were clean. From where we were, it was a bit of a walk to the toilet block, but it was still close enough to get a 3 year old there in plenty of time!
All in all, even though the site was mega busy, it was clean, tidy, and spacious.
At night it was lovely and quiet - with everyone keeping to the noise curfew - no music, keep things down (no shouting etc) after 10:30pm.
We will be returning.!

We have just got back from a 4 night stay at the start of the school holidays.
This is a lovely & friendly family run site. Great for kids, and despite its size and being fairly full was not too noisy.
You get an information leaflet at the start of your stay which was quite useful.
Very animal and disabled friendly. The visiting chickens were a delight.
Huge pitches.
Functional toilet block, kept fairly clean.
Showers were 20p for 3 minutes, I had a few problems with the showers not starting, however the staff were really helpful and sorted it out quickly.
The pool was lovely although with it being school hols you had to book early, I did wish that you could swim in the evening too.
There was Sainburys local in the next village, and a caravan supply shop not too far away in case you forget anything.
There is a barrier with a code that you input to get into the main site (not too sure I would like a pitch nearby as there were lots of opening and shutting door sounds).
I really enjoyed the stay and would go back again!
