June 2005 Good site, pitches flat with plenty of room. Toilets and showers where clean and there was plenty of hot water. Pool good for the kids, had it completly to ourselves for the evening! Staff friendly. Only 2 problems.. couldn't get a pitch close to amenities because of pre bookings, tho there where plenty of empty ones while we were there, and people walking past on the roads at 11 30 at night. Minor moans i know.. but otherwise a good site.

May 2005 A lovely peaceful site. The facitilies were basic but very clean and maintained well. Loads of hot water in both showers and washing up area. The playground was a good size and pool was cool but clean. There is a real farm feel to this place with chickens and horses. The pitches have ample space and nobody patroling round. This site is in the middle of nowhere but there is a pub a short walk away which serves pricey average pub food. The only fault is the opening hours of the shop on site. (not early enough) overall very nice.

April 2005 Nice Site - Friendly Folks. Pool wasnt working - which was dissapointing as was a key attraction to the site really. Again, fairly basic, but with a playpark and free roaming chickens and other animals to see our two young boys enjoyed.
A quick 500 yards to the nearby pub, serving beer and with added bonus of indoor and outdoor play areas was again a treat for the kids.
Site had a small shop well stocked, and proved ideal base for trips to Nottingham Castle and Sherwood Forest areas.

April 2005 This was our first time camping as a family of 5 and there were good and bad points of this site.
Good points, peaceful and quiet and no problems with noise at night. Pitch was spacious and flat no problems there. Lovely views and a working farm so the animals were loved by my children.
Neg points, the play area looked really tired and the seasonal tourers kids ran amok around the area . Also dog poo !!! and we have a dog so its annoying when we take the time to clean up but other people dont. The heated pool was really cold my children were shivering after 4 mins of swimming. Also around the pool was dirty and the signs giving instruction on how to use the pool we all faded so we couldn't read them.

April 2005 I actualy went to thorntons holt about 5 years ago and found it a really nice place, the swimming pool is indoor and quite pleasant. Theres a pool table and tv room for the kids. As for the surrounding area, its near the vale of belvoir (pronounced beaver) which is full of small villages and local pubs, not too much going on though. The campsite is reasonably close to the A52 which leads straight into Nottingham so you can do the tourist spots like 'the tales of robin hood' and 'the galleries of justice'

April 2005 Just cone back from Thorntons Holt - found it to be very peaceful and relaxing. The owner could not have been more helpful. He came to see if every thing was ok. Very reasonable prices toilets and showers a bit dated but what do you expect for the price!

September 2004 Spent a great weekend at this site. We had a good pitch just a few yards from all the main facilities. Swimming pool was great for our 5 year old nephew although it looked quite busy at times. Although the site seemed very busy, we had a really peaceful nights sleep. We will definitely be going back.

August 2004 Visited for a short weekend with friends who had two kids. A large site with quite a few different camping areas. A lot of touring-statics here.I think the site is good for kids with having the play area, games room and swimming pool(although we never used that) and as said previously a well-stocked sweet shop!! Toilet/showers, I have to agree with other reviews- although clean(ish - depends what time of day you visit!) they are dated and could do with refurbishment, that remark is in comparison to other sites we have visited but I must stress they are ok.
I think the best thing about this site are the pitches, we were in one of the rally fields , camped around the edge with the large inner bit reserved for kids playing ball and games etc. I know not everyone likes to have kids around playing ball but its good to have them doing it somewhere safe and in this case we could keep an eye on them-and join in at times!! We didn't visit the surrounding area (only live an hour away)so cannot comment - this particular weekend was for our friends to try out their new trailer-tent. Return visit? Nothing planned although I wouldn't rule it out if we were looking for a short-break again.

August 2004 From the web site e.t.c I got the impression that this site was a bit regimented and strict, also as you enter there are signs eveywhere, what I found was far from it. The toilets had been done up at some stage but were let down by the fact they needed a good clean, they were adequqate. In fact the whole site could have done with a little t.l.c. and it would have made all the difference.
We were pitched in the large field, I got the impression that most other parts of the site were taken up by seasonal pitches. The tents and caravans are all around the edge of the field with the middle left for a football/volley ball pitch.
Although the signs said no uneccessary noise after 10.30 there were quite a few children having a lovely game of chase around your caravans/tents with a torch at 11.30 at night.
This site is cheap and cheerful and if you have children and/or in a group it is o.k for a fun weekend away. Don't go if you are used to caravan club standards.

June 2004 Thorntons Holt was our first attempt at camping in our TT, we found the site very relaxed and quiet ( although not empty ), loose chickens all around and horses in the paddock to feed. Good sheltered rec room for the kids and also lots of room for a spontaneous inter tent football match.
Good little shop with friendly and helpful staff, washrooms and showers fine.
Actually thinking of going again when we can, just for the break, plus it's only five miles from where we live
