Having returned from my 5th visit to Hollands Wood in as many years I can only praise this wonderful site and its staff.
A roomy site with pitches amongst oak trees and wonderful views of Balmer Lawn plus small herds of ponies, the odd cow and deer and a short walk from Brockenhurst (great pubs !).
The facilities are plentiful and clean; toilets, showers, laundry room, dog washing, large sinks for washing babies and dish washing facilities. These are regularly cleaned and queuing is rare.
Pitches are on a first come first served basis with a minimum distance between tents of 6m.It can get busy and slightly noisy during the school holidays but not excessively so, the general atmosphere being very quiet and peaceful.
My only criticism would be the lack of a shop as supplies for backpackers / non drivers are limited to a poorly stocked shop in Brockenhurst.

I love this site! The toilet block is always clean, the hot water doesn't run out, I've never had to wait for a shower, the staff are friendly, helpful and informative, the New Forest is just beautiful. Even the other campers on the site seem to be extra nice and considerate; very little noise after 10.30, and lots of friendliness. The site was full, but didn't feel crowded at all.
We hired bikes from Cyclexperience near the railway station and had a super pootle through the woodland on the little gravel paths, just perfect for my slightly wobbly 6 year old.
Can't wait to go back.

We have an annual trip to this site with friends - it is great for children as they can play and cycle around and see all the ponies wandering through. The toilets are fine although can be busy at certain times due to the number of campers.
If you want to get pitched together for a summer weekend you will need to arrive quite early as the site fills up on a frinday afternoon - you can book ahead but have to find a pitch when you arrive as they are not defined and numbered.
Overall a great site and very friendly - close to lots of things to do in the forest and near to the sea.

A lovely site which we will definitely be going back to. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the whole atmosphere on the site was relaxed and peaceful.
It was relatively quiet when we went so we had an ample choice of spots on which to park up. The ground was flat and we chose a spot under some trees - nearest neighbour was probably 30 yards away but I imagine that in the summer holidays it would be down to the minimum of 6 metres.
Toilets and showers were good - no queues but then the site was relatively quiet. We did several bike rides from the site and it is possible to cycle straight out of the back of the site into the forest thus avoiding the need to go on any roads.
Brockenhurst is a pretty village with several reasonable pubs. We didn't eat in any of them as the weather was so good that we BBQ'd instead. It is possible to hear the main road if sited on that side - we were in the middle and it didn't bother us but if in a tent on that side, then I can imagine that it might be an annoyance. Ponies and cattle came on to the site but weren't a worry.
Lovely site and will go back again.

So so clean, this site is a credit to the staff who are always around to help day or night and always cleaning up.
We arrived as two family groups on a busy June weekend. The check in process was seamless despite lots of people turning up at the same time.
The pitches are all flat and private thanks to ample trees and bushes. Although the site was very busy we were pitched right at the edge so looked out onto fields and forest, other campers were considerate and there was no anti-social noise.
We could hear the road but only as a low drone noticeable at night. Being in a flight path was a bit more annoying but this was mainly by day.
The dawn chorus was amazing! The horses were magical.
Our kids loved the freedom to explore this large site safely and are desperate to go back, we found it private and relaxing despite being busy and the staff are a credit to this place.

Friends recommended this site and we were not disappointed. It seems you cannot pitch your tent in a bad spot. All pitches look flat. There are 3 toilet / shower / laundry / washing up blocks which are spotless. They even have a place to wash you dog.
Plenty of hot water for washing up and showers. I had to queue to wash dishes but then it was bank holiday / half term.
Staff were very friendly and polite always checking the campsite and for those of us who like ice cream, a van comes around all parts of the site regularly.
This is certainly an area of outstanding beauty. You wake up to beautiful birdsong and see birds / squirrels just outside your tent. New Forest Ponies also like to graze very nearby! Will definitely be recommending to friends and returning ASAP.

Lovely site - beautiful location and good facilities. Plenty of space to pitch and trees provided some cover from the rain.
Other campers very considerate. Tarmaced roads great for children to use scooters and cars drive very slowly so very safe. Walk/scoot to Balmer Lawn for paddling in the river - a perfect way to spend a hot afternoon with the children.
Definitely a great place to camp - will come again.

This is a fantastic campsite without marked pitches where you can really camp within the trees. Despite being enormous it had a very family friendly calm atmosphere and was really quiet in the evenings.
The staff were friendly and very efficient.
The two shower/toilet blocks were always clean and we never queued despite there being no obvious pitches left.
A small shop would be really appreciated just to get milk / bacon etc as there are no hookups here or a fridge / freezer service - either would really help as the kids can tell UHT milk a mile off!
The only thing that spoiled our stay was that despite grabbing the kids straight from school Friday, we did not get there until after 7pm by which time all the pitches big enough for our Outwell Vermont XL had gone (bearing in mind the 6m rule).
The only pitches left ran alongside the A road and the noise was so loud at times we could not hear each other speak. The warden did tell us this side of the site is less popular and that the traffic noise stopped at about 11pm but it did not stop all night, and we're talking lorries!
This is not the site's fault at all but as we'd prepaid we had to take a pitch. Just warning you to get there a lot earlier and stay well away on the other side of the site where it was quiet and ponies amble around - aah!
We will definitely return as the cycling was fab but no way am I camping anywhere near the road again!

The place is gorgeous and staff extremely helpful and friendly. We've stayed from Monday to Saturday and until Thursday the camping was pretty much ours, the pitch was lovely and spacious.
The views, horses, ponies, squirrels and birds around you is absolutely fantastic. The toilet blocks were very cleaned and well maintained at least until Friday, unfortunately people don't clean after their mess as they should so again can't blame the staff. Showers were powerful and hot, with great dishwasher and laundry facilities.
Nice you can park your car just near your tent as well. On Friday the camping became really packed and some of of my neighbours had too much to drink and were quite loud, but after 10PM was fine again.
The only problems I had was the fact that new arrivals didn't respect the 6 meters space in between tents and I could literally hear the bloke next to my tent snoring heavily, but because was our last night, we've decided not to complain.
It was almost 28 degrees on that day and beginning of summertime, so that's no way the camping would be quiet during weekends, therefore not the staff's fault. The road can be noisy so I suggest you find a spot to the opposite side near the horse fields were you can enjoy this gorgeous black stallion taking care of all other horses. Also be very careful with the squirrels as they will for sure try to steal all your food from inside the tent.

The campsite is literally set in woods which is quite a nice novelty when you're used to camping in open fields. There are some lovely walks round the woods and a large open 'clearing' down one side of the site where you can play ball games etc.
The site is very large with 600 pitches and does some times feel cramped when at full capacity - Bank Holidays etc. The toilet and washing facilities are kept clean - obviously during the busy periods there is a little queuing and the showers do get a bit messy but not too bad for a site of this size.
I've used this site many times as there is usually plenty of availability (I booked 3 days before last May Bank Holiday). There aren't a great deal of other facilities on the site but Brockenhurst itself has everything you'll need - shop / pub and cafwise. The site is a little on the expensive side.
Overall a nice site which I will continue to use. Would definitely recommend especially if you can avoid peak times.
