Stayed over beautiful bank holiday weekend. Site had fabulous facilities and didn't feel overly crowded. Ideal location just a walk away from Brockenhurst and great cycle tracks direct from the campsite. Had some difficult hiring bikes as fully booked so suggest booking ahead if bikes required. Took open top bus tour around area so we didn't have to move van. Was excellent way to see all the sites and went from the entrance to the campsite.
Unfortunately we also had problems with noise. There was some quite big groups of people on the site and the group near us were up laughing and chatting til 1am. Definitely will need ear plugs if the site is busy. Wouldn't go to this site again on a busy weekend for that reason. Shame as everything else was great

This is a great site. No hook-ups and no plug sockets and no prescribed play area might put some off but didn't matter to us.
We love the natural feel to the enormous site, with the ponies wandering around. You're supposed to pitch 3-6m away from anyone else and on our 3rd day we returned from a day out to find someone so close the guys were crossing ours-the staff were quite happy to make them move the following morning and had a good word with them that night too.
There are loads of toilets and showers and Brockenhurst is an easy walk. Loads to do in the area but the children were happy playing in the forest and stream most of the time.
The staff are great, basics available at reception, and they lease out their own freezer packs for 50p or similar-won't freeze your own ones.

We've been camping on this site for well over 20 years (first with my parents and now with my hubby!)
It hasn't changed much over the years in respect of the pitches but the shower/toilet facilities are bang up to date and I've never yet had to queue up for a shower in the mornings. Always clean and tidy and enough blocks even when full.
The site is totally natural, no set pitches and has horses and cows wandering through it.
The last couple of times we have been we have experienced noise issues from other campers, running into the very early hours of the morning (one experience of a car screeching off and just missing our tent at 2am in the morning after a blazing drunken row nearly put us off altogether!)
Unfortunately the site managers are placed so far away from the very end of the site that they don't hear the noise, leaving it to us to have to deal with the issue directly.
However, we spoke to the manager the morning after our last experience and he advised us that they have an emergency mobile contact number (printed on a board near the loos) which people can use if this kind of thing happens.
I will keep going back to the site but will also ensure that I have the managers mobile number to hand if needed in the night.

We camped at this site over a long weekend early August.
The surrounding area is beautiful with loads to do and see - a favourite for us was nearby Lymington, and the stream next to the campsite which was great for paddling when the weather was warm.
We found the campsite pleasant though noisy with the main road running beside the site, and very crowded until Sunday afternoon when most weekend campers packed up.
The soil was very dusty and the grass thin, so when it rained everything was completely caked in mud.
Toilet facilities aren't well designed particularly for young families. We have 2 young children and found people were constantly squeezing past us when we were washing the children so that they could access the showers or toilets. Some low-level sinks would be nice. Also few hooks/places to hang bags/towels making it difficult to protect items from the floor that was constantly caked in mud (there was a mop + bucket full of filthy water provided for campers to use) and the toilets usually ran out of toilet roll by early evening.
Overall - we felt it was expensive given the basic facilities available - seems you're paying a high price to see ponies wandering around the site.

Had a last minute mid week stay at this site and what a delight it was.
Staff on reception exceptionally helpful and friendly. Site facilities clean and well placed.
We spent a wonderful evening just sitting and watching the ponies feeding on the common and it was an added pleasure when they congregated near to where we were pitched. Had a walk in the forest direct from the campsite - very peaceful and away from it all.
A lovely walk into Brockenhurst which is well served by a pubs and little shops - a very pretty place.
We will definitely be returning.

Wonderful.Describes our experience at Hollands Wood. We were blessed with lovely weather and this site really is a picture when the sun shines.
A fabulous back to nature haven is how we found our 6 nights (were only booked for 5 but enjoyed it so much and still had so much exploring of the area to do we extended by another night !)
The staff welcome on arrival was very friendly and informative. We were then advised as others have said to find a pitch all unmarked in the trees.
Once set up we found the site facilities really good this is a big busy site and only when it was absolutely full did we find ourselves from time to time waiting a few minutes for showers or the washing up facilities.
Showers are plentiful and hot and bearing in mind the people on site were keep very very very clean.
We (2 adults and 2 children 3 and 4) did the dusk watch organised by one of the site rangers in the forest. This I can highly recommend very good value and really informative. Our ranger was excellent extremely knowledgeable and friendly and great with the children. We saw bats, foxes, tawny owls, toads, deer and of course the ponies !
At the Weekend (FRI and SAT) as previously mentioned there was a couple of very loud inconsiderate groups otherwise very peaceful on site.
This is a very well maintained well organised site superbly located in the the New Forest.

Have stayed on this site several times and love it a little bit more each time ! Very natural, love the horses wandering around but make sure you put ALL food away as they will help themselves.
Lovely surroundings, I always pitch on the side of the 'common' (to the right as you drive in) rather than nearer the road. Worth a trip to nearby Puttles bridge, especially on a warm day if you have children. Hours and hours of fun playing in the (shallow) river/brook.
Very highly recommended. Staff very helpful. Nice walk into Brockenhurst (20mins) some nice quirky little shops and some lovely pubs (oh, and a Tesco express!).

This site is delightfully positioned between Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst, the Tesco in Brockenhurst proving very handy, the traffic through Lyndhurst not so! - try to avoid.
You can pitch roughly where you like but we stayed over the Bank Holiday weekend so as the site filled up, the 6m rule went completely out of the window (a bit annoying as we made sure we adhered to it). When we came back from a day out, other units had popped themselves into small gaps, putting branches to mark their territory.
Try to avoid the section next to the roadside, quite noisy, and it does spoil the effect of camping in the forest.
The toilets and showers were pleasant enough.
My 10 year old nephew said the campsite was 'dark' and I suppose he is right it is a little gloomy, but then it is in the middle of the forest.
The ponies are an exciting bonus for the young'uns. However, one group were foolish enough to leave food in their tent kitchen over night and by morning a few ponies were walking about with whole slices of bread hanging out of their mouths. We had a pony trying to investigate inside our tent, and there was an amusing episode with a pony, a woman and her breakfast.
A lovely area, but there are slightly nicer campsites there. Only slightly.

We spent a thurs and fri night here in July and thought it was an excellent site.
It is a really big site and as we were there during the school holidays it was pretty busy especially on Friday night. In a campervan we had no problems picking a spot, but people arriving with tents were finding it more difficult. This was made harder as due to the lack of rain the ground was too hard to get pegs in in places. But this is the only criticism I have.
There are no fixed pitches although the trees define space to a degree and there are a couple of tent only areas. There is plenty of big open spaces especially at the perimeter of the site with fields leading into the forest which children can have a free run of.
There is an excellent permanent road system around the site which I would imagine would hold up well in heavy rain and makes it perfect for bringing bikes. There is brilliant access to the cycle paths of the New Forest also.
The toilet facilities are excellent and were always clean. The showers were free and hot (perhaps a little too hot, I would be reluctant to put children in them, but that may have just been the time I went).
There were plenty of really helpful staff around also.

We had a lovely time at this campsite, our first ever camping trip as a family. We found the campsite very noisy on the Friday and Saturday night although it was much quieter after that. The kids loved the ponies and the cows coming in for a little wonder.
We found the toilet and shower blocks clean most of the time although not so much at the weekend. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We can't wait to go again, but next time we might try to avoid the weekend, although it could of just been bad luck with noisy neighbours.
