The site is in a fantastic location right in the trees but on the edge of open heathland. We had ponies visit daily as did the squirrels.
We had a pitch on the heath side of the site, near the main toilet complex. Although the site was fully booked,we had no problems with overcrowding and you didn't get the feeling that the had overbooked.
This was our first time camping and we found the facilities to be very good. There was sometimes a wait for the ladies showers and they could do with a few more WC's. We even used the dog shower as our pup decided to pamper herself with a mud bath!

We arrived at the campsite with my husband and two daughters and friend and border collie. Was surprised at how big the site was it was massive. There was horses every where and ponies, donkeys. The kids really enjoyed it especially my daughter who was 7 at the time she enjoyed the freeness of roaming around on bikes. Everyone was so friendly to talk to. Great facilities, the toilets were very clean and the wash rooms were clean. There were queues in the mornings and evening expected with the amount of people on the site for the toilets and wash rooms.
Great if you have dog we took ours through the woods and he really enjoyed the woods and running freely it was so amazing to see the deer in the silhouette in the dew in the mornings. There were local shops in the village and you were able to buy what ever you needed wild life would be running around such as horses, donkeys, cows really amazing. Staff were very friendly and helpful on site.
I would highly recommend this site to anyone who wanted to be up front with nature truly recommend this site. We are coming back this year cant wait for the summer to begin.

We have previously stayed at forest holiday sites and this one did not disappoint, you can rely on them for excellent standards. This is a very large site and I've never seen so many wardens, who seemed well organised and helpful, and patrol regularly. We found a pitch at the far end overlooking a large grazing area (balmer lawn) with cows and ponies, there is so much space the children could safely play and we could sit back and watch. And yes you can hear the busy road. Facilities (3) modern blocks were often busy but always clean and at busy times the wardens would open up extra shower facilities, the only queues were for the washing up sinks. This is a super site if you like the outdoors like walking, cycling or if you have a dog.Pitch you tent carefully (good pegs needed) if it rains it can flood in places. There is no shop on site but only 5mins in the car there is a small Tesco and local shops in Brockenhurst and we'd recommend Lymington 4 miles, but Lyndhurst is a traffic nightmare. Lots to do in area and a trip over to the Isle of wight is a must,a super day out for £50 return.

Just back from a lovely BH short break at this site. Very well organised and the facilities are the best I've seen so far.
The ponies weren't too much of a bother, they are actually quite small with only a few taller ones and keep pretty much to themselves. They were not about at all at night! We were told they are rounded up and regularly wormed etc so they are not unused to some handling. The squirrels, however, are very cheeky, one chewed through a zip to get to some bread and left a lot of crumbs! Naturally there are a lot of bugs, which I don't like at all, but this would not put me off visiting again because of the many redeeming points the site has to offer.
Theres lots to do at the site, both on spec and organized. The ranger trek was very interesting. We will return.

We've been to this site 6 or 7 times now. Just come back from a week there and it's still as lovely as ever. A few things that let it down compared with past few years: 1) dogs are now allowed all over site. There used to be dog-free sections. 2) showers are now improved but there still aren't enough in the middle section and there are no curtains in some of them, meaning clothes get wet 3) more kids doing stunts on cycles on the main route through meant driving and walking was impaired - this should be restricted somehow to the side routes.
All in all though it's still the lovely site it ever was, the ponies didn't trouble us at all (it's just a case of keeping food out of site and in containers). The surrounding area is fantastic and great for kids - as well as ponies we spotted, deer roaming while in the trees, squirrels, rabbits and even possible signs of beavers but weren't sure of the latter. We walked while the kids cycled and managed 12 miles one day. Easy walk into Brockenhurst for pubs and shops, train to Lymington for boat ride is a good day out. Price is quite steep for facilities but highly recommend this site.

Arrived late Thursday afternoon so understandably we did not have the best choice of pitches available. Ended up on the left side of the site towards the road (a337) and yes, the noise was very noticeable in our opinion.
We didn't experience any problems with regards to the notorious ponies raiding tents, although we did see them in other people's tent extensions whilst they were out.
Toilet/shower blocks were excellent, hot showers, regularly cleaned and didn't have to queue despite the site being full. Only complaint is that there is a 4 digit entry code to be typed into a keypad which emits 4 beeps EVERY time it's used. The sound of these beeps becomes tiresome to listen to if you are pitched near the shower block as we were.
Kids (8,8,3) loved playing in the forest, making dens etc. And the amount of wildlife - birds, mice, moles and of course the ponies are another source of entertainment.
Most of the pitches are uneven due to mole activity, tree roots etc and are prone to flooding, we had a 3 inch deep puddle next to our tent at one stage - just glad we have a SIG!
Overall a good, clean site. We look forward to trying some of the other Forest Holiday sites.

Beautiful location - although Lyndhurst traffic a pain to battle through (worth it when you get there). Facilities excellent, showers powerful enough and cleaned regularly. Plenty of toilets and rubbish bins as well as good washing up facilities. Gets very dark at night so make sure you have adequate lighting (no electric hook up here). We camped on the New Forest side (road side rather noisy but still pretty if you don't mind that) and what a glorious view to wake up to - watch the ponies though! Think this adds to the magic of the holiday though - just make sure you seal all food away! I have heard that it can flood this side so would suggest camping further in if rain forecast.
Agree with other reviewer about the noise at night. We stayed for a weekend and whilst Friday night all was quiet by about 11.00pm, Saturday was different with two large young parties near us talking and singing rather loudly until 2.30am. However I am sure they were paid back the next day as children began to get up and play outside as dawn broke! I was disappointed that they were not asked by a we have friends that have camped here during the week and the noise levels have been fine. I guess it is something you have to accept may happen at weekends!
I will definitely be camping here again and would definitely recommend Holland’s Wood to anyone that loves the New Forest.

An excellent site. Great location on the edge the town and also on the edge of the forest. We went for walks to town and in forest and also took our bikes so we could cycle in the well marked forest tracks. You can hire bikes on site.
Despite being busy we were able to find a lovely pitch below an oak tree and as we were erecting our tent, a pony and his mother came over to watch and investigate our car boot. We realised we'd left home without sleeping bags, so drove into Southampton to buy some!
I don't recall the showers or washing facilities - which is a good thing - it means they must have been fine. We wish we'd stayed longer - this is a fine camp site with all the traditions of good camping - freedom, large pitches and friendliness. We'd definitely go back

My hubby and I camped here for 2 nights on the 7th and 8th of August. This was my first camping trip in about 12 years and was a little nervous of what to expect. As soon as we arrived my nerves disappeared! The staff on the gate to 'check you in' were really friendly and helpful. We arrived at about 1230 on the Friday so there were quite a few vaccant pitches. We opted to stay in between the 1st and 2nd shower/toilet blocks where is was a little quieter, if you went closer to any of the blocks it was a lot busier. We chose our pitch and set up camp and then headed to Lymington to stock up on food and beer. We headed back to camp and had a BBQ and a few beers. Campsite was reasonably quiet after 1030 apart from the few kids on bikes going around the camp. We were woken up fairly early the next morning (about 6.45) by kids again on bikes and then cars and other people started to move around from around 7/730 - it wasn't too bad cos the weather was nice and we got some bacon butties cooking! Hollands Wood is a very good location for going to the beach. We headed down to Milford on Sea and then across to Bournemouth for a few hours. That evening we walked up to Brockenhurst (about 10 minute walk) and had a few pints in the pubs and a meal in the Italian. Weren't very impressed with the food in the Italian, fairly expensive for what you got and also not very nice!
Overall, we loved our trip here and didn't want to leave to come home. The site was nice a quiet and in a very good location for anything else you may want to do. We did see some of the wild ponies but they didn't bother us. We kept our food/drinks in the car and disposed of rubbish when we had any. Heard of a tent raid but that was cos people had left rubbish in their tents.
All in all - can't wait to go back!

This was my second visit to Hollands Wood and although I enjoyed the visit, it will probably be my last. This time around, I went as part of a larger group and it caused us some problems.
Firstly, finding space for four tents was very tricky and we had complaints that they were too close together. We then moved them, but as the floor is so uneven, one of the tents ended up in a ditch that turned into a puddle and eventually a lake! Secondly, some of our party were teenagers and while they were not noisy, they were chatting in their tent and this caused some people to complain as it was after 11 (though not 12 as they suggested). We therefore received a VERY stern telling off and while the complaint about the positioning of the tents was justified, the noise complaint was not and it marred our trip.
Additionally, as the floor is very uneven, it does mean that puddles are likely and in some cases inevitable, so be very careful where you pitch your tent. We were there during a thunder storm and this caused us some problems. There is also very little to do (for teenagers) within walking distance. Although the nearby towns of Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst have good amenities including Tesco / Budgens, chip shops, camping shop, bakery and pubs.
The site itself is very well tended. The toilet/ shower blocks are clean and plentiful and the washing up facilities are clean. There are also laundry facilities that are very resonably priced. The camp site will not freeze ice blocks for you, but you can hire theirs. Having said this, each time I went to ask, they were in the process of being frozen, but I suspect that was more to do with my timing than anything else.
Overall, if you have small children, this site is fantastic. The facilities make life easier and for one tent at a time is easy to find space. However, if you are visiting the area as part of a larger group, or with adults / teenagers, it may not be the place for you.
