We visited this site for 2 nights with 1 other family.
This is a very well organised and clean camp site, there are lots of staff when you arrive and they are very friendly. After choosing our pitches we set up our tents.
We felt like we had a lot of space and it was nice to see the ponies wandering around.
The shower / toilets blocks were very clean, with plenty of hot water and they were warm and well maintained. The only downside was not having a shop on site, they are not allowed to open one as it would take business away from the local shops, just make sure you take your own bacon and milk.
There are plenty of pubs and places to visit near this camp site and the area is great for cycling.

This is a fabulous site in a great location. Kids and dog friendly, plenty of day time staff around if you need anything. Toilets and showers are great.
Been here 3 times this year though for the weekend, and we now realise that weekends are a problem with noisy people. There is rules about keeping quiet at certain times, but people are just not considerate to the rules and other campers, and so far at every weekend on being there we have had problems Friday and Saturday nights keeping us awake until 2.30am ish.
They really need a warden checking round this site in the evenings to stop these situations. Other than being so tired we loved it.

We stayed for a long weekend and, overall, had a great time but with a few reservations.
As the website will tell you, the site is what I always imagined a 'proper' campsite would be; tents nestled under trees in a proper forest, with no marked pitches or manicured lawns. Toilet blocks are clean and well-maintained but the site could do with one or two more because, and this is not obvious from the website, the site is HUGE (look at it on Google Maps).
We were fortunate to go with friends who had been before and they found us a great spot, away from the road and on the site edge over-looking a huge, open field, with grazing horses and cows - wonderful! We did a superb cycle ride from the site entrance through to a place called Bank near Lyndhurst, which had one of the best country pubs I've ever been to (The Old Inn or something like that?) - 12 mile round trip and mostly flat, so even my 7-year old was able to do it - great day out.
Brockenhurst was a pretty town and had most of the facilities you need; small Tesco and a great bakery/deli which had some delicious doughnuts!
However, as others have said, the site happily allows groups (good on them) but this means this is NOT a site if you want peace and quiet. On our weekend, the local hotel had a wedding (with a firework display at 11pm in the field next to the site edge, that annoyed some of the other residents around us - our kids can luckily sleep through anything) and several of the guests stayed on site. They weren't too bad and I didn't hear them after I went to sleep but large groups make noise all the time, not just at night, and it gives the site a slightly frenetic atmosphere. Possibly better during the week but there were still groups there when we left on the Monday.
The site also looks very crowded when full, with every little patch of ground covered with a tent. Seperation was generally OK from a privacy point of view, although I doubt it was the required 6m or whatever it's supposed to be.
Also, I know the site is 'natural' but, in reality, that means lots of bare earth and horse poo - I make no apologies for preferring the 'artificial' beauty of neat lawns and flower beds.
Basically, this is a campsite for the wannabee-Hippies (several old VW campervans and flowery shirts on view) and us city-campers; it looks like a wild, windswept campsite but has the basic facilities to allow us our hairdryers and morning capuccinos.

We went for a week and had a lovely time. On the Friday night there was a group making considerable noise quite late at night but these were spoken to by the campsite staff. The rest of the week was peaceful, we had plenty of room for our dog to run around without being worried by other dogs.
We were right near the main road but this didn't present us with any problems and quietened down at night anyway.
We found the toilets always clean and stocked with toilet paper and soap, and the showers always clean and although the site was fully booked never had to wait. The facilities were frequently checked by staff, and a mobile number was available in multiple places that you could call if you had any problems 24 hours a day.
There is a Tesco Express in Brockenhurst, about a 20 minute walk from the site and basics are available from reception. For 50p a time the site provided frozen ice blocks for our cool box and staff were happy to offer advice and help whenever they could.
Just remember to throw your rubbish away, we accidentally went out for the day leaving it in a bag outside the tent and upon our return a horse had gone through it!
We had such a good time we have rebooked to return in 3 weeks time!

Just come back from this site after a four night stay. I hadn't been back to Hollands Wood since I was a little girl and camping with my parents. The campsite was still lovely and the facilities had definitely improved.
The toilets and showers were clean (the only time they weren't was when some campers didn't mop out the showers after using them - mostly young girls). The showers did get busy around the weekend due to weekend campers but didn't have to wait for long.
The ground was a little hard and my parents couldn't get their pegs into the ground for their awning but they were able to purchase some rock pegs from the reception.
My little girl loved seeing the free roaming ponies and playing around the trees - great site for children to explore.
Brockenhurst is nearby - a short 5 minute car journey, a good 10 minute bike ride or you can walk. At times the road does get busy leading into Brockenhurst. Brockenhurst has a fish and chip shop, chinese takeaway, supermarket, butchers (lovely fresh homemade burgers, sausages, etc), bakers (the cakes are to die for especially the doughnuts!), and plus other shops including gift shops.
Definitely will come back to this site again next year.

Just back from a 2 night stay at this site. Although it was fully booked for the weekend we found a nice spot amongst the trees (near fire point 33) that wasn't too close to the road and just about 100m from one of the shower blocks.
We paid in full in advance and this gave us a quicker check in which is ideal for a friday night when it gets very busy. The greeting was efficient and friendly.
The shower and toilet block were clean and tidy although a little bit more room wouldn't go a miss as you are squeezing past people who are washing thier hands/brushing teeth etc. And I'm not a big person. Showers were just the right temperature but you do have to keep pushing the button as it only lasts about 20 seconds - take a shower bag on a string so you can hand it behind the door rather than one you have to put down as it will get wet!
One downside to the site was the rowdy guests on the Friday night which meant we didn't get to sleep until gone 2am - not the sites fault that some people just have no respect but it should have been nipped in the bud a lot earlier. A lot of people complained and the next night the noise stopped at about 10.30pm. I think the site security had words but they should remind people about the noise time restrictions on check in - especially to groups.
The site is big but doesn't feel it and it is within walking distance of Brockenhurst village which has some nice pubs like the snakecatcher and the rose and crown.

Fabulous site, wonderful views and plenty of room for children to play and climb. The site was full but it didn't feel crowded nor was it excessively noisy.
Toilet blocks are good but not always very clean although there was always toilet paper and we didn't have to queue for the showers. Reception office sells milk and you can hire ice blocks.
Lots to do in the area - a great site!

We had a very disappointing experience here. The staff were unhelpful with making a booking and then very rude on our arrival. The campsite lacked basic services such as signs on buildings to help campers navigate around. The campsite is clearly aimed at families and, as a group without children, we were made to feel very unwelcome. We had travelled a long way to be there so were not impressed by the attitude of the staff. We asked for customer feedback forms but were informed they had 'run out'.

We went back to this site after 15 years this month.
The site is very large and settled in woods beside the main road on the outskirts of Brockenhurst. It has capacity for 600 pitches and has 3 large modern well maintained toilet/shower blocks supporting it. (No electric hook ups on this site)
The entry office also doubles as a small shop selling bread and milk and also freezer blocks and ice. Other shopping is in the small town of Brockenhurst or elsewhere. Brockenhurst has a number of shops for meat, fruit and veg plus a small Tesco store so if you don’t want to travel these can serve your requirements. There are a couple of pubs and some restaurants within walking distance of the site.
Staff are friendly and approachable. They are always around the site and also organize walks and other activities on the site through the day. We had a problem with our car and they worked with us to get the matter fixed.
The site is very clean and tidy and well maintained
You are not forced into regimental pitching positions and can pitch almost anywhere within the boundaries of the site. (6 metre rule between tents)
You maybe surprised if you go that the forest ponies and cows etc move within the woods without restriction. Don’t be surprised to see these outside your tent in the morning.
As the site runs along the side of the main road there is road noise in most parts of the camp. We pitched well away from the road so was not a problem for us.
Our only problem on our stay was that the site was full due to weekend campers over the Friday and Saturday nights which did stretch the facilities somewhat. There were queues for the showers on these days but the site becomes much quitter Sunday through Thursday nights.
We will go back again but not in peak season where it spans a weekend.

The description in the camping and caravanning club brochure is of a 'peaceful site' that David Bellamy describes as a 'paradise park'. I have to say that the location is superb and the environment is unique, you camp inside woodland of mainly oak and silver birch trees and the new forest ponies and cattle are free to wander on and off site at will.
We arrived late Saturday afternoon having booked and paid for 8 nights well in advance and were told the site was full but to just drive around until we found somewhere to pitch (not so easy on a site that is 3/4 mile long when you have a caravan attached). We were given a handful of poo bags and some dog biscuits for our dog (a nice touch which made him feel welcome).
However the brochure gives no indication that this is a 600 pitch site that accepts bookings from groups of teenagers. We grabbed the first pitch we could find as they were few and far between, not strictly 6m from the next unit as the rules and signs stated but many people seemed to be ignoring this rule. The location was fantastic, we were on the edge of the sight, furthest from the road and overlooking the 200 acre Balmer Lawn.
Saturday night was noisy and we were told that Friday had been worse but we tolerated this as many people left on Sunday and the place became far more peaceful. We had several walks in the nearby forest and were rewarded with sightings of deer within half a mile of the site.
The toilet facilities were adequate but there was little space between the sinks and the toilet cubicles for people to pass and in the block closest to us the hand dryers stopped working on our second day and were not repaired before we left (they were waiting for the electrician). The soap dispensers also ran out frequently and during the week part of the block was closed off due to fewer campers being on site.
We were disappointed that so many campers abused the environment by dropping dangerous litter, throughout the week we picked up bottles and cans that had been discarded on the heath alongside the site where ponies and cattle roamed. The site tries to recycle but the recycling bins were crammed full of general waste.
Things came to a head on Friday night when the rowdy behaviour continued until 2.30am that we heard and until 4am that another camper reported to us. This was followed by children running around shouting from 6.30am. The site rules ask people to be quiet, especially between 10pm and 8am. The following morning we found a whole case of mostly empty cider cans abandoned on the heath.
The final straw was our caravan being damaged by (presumably) a child wielding an 8' long branch that dented the awning rail and scratched the paintwork. In fairness to the staff they do patrol and they took action to eject two groups from the site the following morning but by then the damage had been done and we decided to leave a day early.
The site manager was very helpful and offered to resite us for our last night but we had already packed and made the decision to go, he also assured us that they have very few complaints. At times this could be a paradise park but not when it is filled to capacity and while it accepts groups that have no interest in camping or the environment. My advice would be if you want peace and quiet avoid Friday and Saturday nights at this site.
