This was our first visit to the New Forest. We had tried to book a site on thge phone and the internet but was told everywhere was full. Decided to ust head down there and came upon Hollands wood. Fantastic!
Pitch where you like and wee chose a small private spot with views of the cows and horses on the heath.
Shower block was basic but clean. Noy enough showers in the famale side and the toilets were closed every afternoon for a couple of hours for cleaning. Fantasic pubs in Brockenhurst and Lindhurst. We will definitely be back.

We went here again this year for about our 20th visit! Much as we love the site and the area, the standards seem to be slipping in terms of enforcing the no noise after 11pm policy. During the weekend of our two week stay there were some very noisy people shouting and playing music until 3am and no-one was interested. Also, the units get closer and closer to each other every year and no-one regards the 6m apart rule. Otherwise, some things have not changed, the site is blissful in the week at this time of year when it is quiet and is nice and clean still. We were waterlogged for the whole fortnight and even took the Condor ferry to Jersey from Weymouth and got wetter there! And our ferry nearly sank in the rough seas! Still, we really enjoyed ourselves and are braving it and going camping again on Saturday 29th Sept, to a different area this time and just hope we have better weather than we did in June! Go to Hollands Wood, it is lovely really!

We just stayed on a Saturday night in September, the good weather brought out a lot of people and the campsite was full by six pm, it might be worth making sure you get there early. However, the site didn't feel too crowded. The showers and toilets and pretty good.
As others have said, the best spots are away from the road to the east. The road wasn't too noisy. There are some really nice walks from the site.
Brockenhurst, a short walk away, conveniently has a station, shops and pubs. Lymington is worth a look, has some nice shops and cafes, its very pleasant wandering around the quayside, and there are trips and ferries to the Isle of Wight available.
The roads can get a bit slow as there is a bottleneck in Lyndhurst.
Would definitely go again, though we're keen to try some of the other sites in the area.

I stayed at Holland's Wood for 4 nights in August with my husband and 2 daughters aged 1 & 2. We were dubious about the success of our trip at the start given the ages of our children however we were so pleased with the campsite & area we extended our stay for an extra night.
The location of the site is superb, I do agree with previous comments about traffic noise and would advise people to keep to the right hand side of the site. This is also where the best views are on offer.
The facilities are excellent, I was most impressed at the campsites facilities for babies which included a baby bath in the shower block by way of a wall mounted belfast sink next to a baby change mat. The horses and cows are daily visitors and my girls particularly loved the shetland ponies who would look in the tent windows every morning.
There is a site rule that visitors have to leave the site by 10pm and no cars are allowed to drive after 10.30pm which meant that the site was peaceful in the evening. It's within walking distance to the village of Brockenhurst means you can walk out for a pint or take away if you get the calling.
One piece of advice check for twigs and branches before pitching your tent, we learnt the hard way! We'll be back next year!

First time campers, we stayed for 2 nights at Hollands Wood. Never been camping I wanted to be able to get a little closer to nature so I wasn't after a site in a massive open field. On the other hand I didn't fancy catching dysentery either! This site is EVERYTHING I could have hoped for. You set up camp amongst the trees where ever you fancy, but the toilet and shower facilities are there to keep you smelling fresh (and they're clean). We set up at the back of the site on the left (away from the noise of the traffic on the main road) and was delighted to be woken at about 3am to the sound of the new forest ponies sniffing around the tent. You can't get much closer to nature than that. The next morning we went for a bike ride through the forest to Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst. The bike trails are fantastic in the forest and the pubs all around offer great food and a well deserved pint. The site offers maps and guides from £1. By this time the Ice in our cool bag had melted and I was pleasantly surprised they also offered Icy cool-blocks for £1 deposit (you get that back) and 30p per freeze, bargin. BBQ dinner on night 2 and a clear sky brought out the stars and nearly full moon. A magical end to a great break.
Tips: 1. Set up to the right of the camp (away from traffic) 2. Get a shower before 7:30am, they get busy 3. Enjoy!

This site was a turn up and 'pitch where you like' site, (as long as you are 6m away from your neighbour). There is no hook up and the setting is beautiful. It was quite unique to unzip your tent in the morning and see the ponies wondering around in front of you. The toilets and showers were clean and adequate for the number of people staying and the washing up facilities were good as well. We went in quite a busy time and managed to find a lovely pitch around 200m from the main road which you could hear at all times (but you get used to it). Brockenhurst was a short ten minute walk away and there were a couple of pubs which were nice and made you feel welcome. There are footpaths all the way to them from the site. Similarly to other reviews that have been left, if I had a criticism of this site it would be the cost and the lack of personal touch.

We stayed her for three nights the weather was not good for us and the site was wet and muddy so take wellies if wet. The view over from the camp site was lovely looking over a field with trees all around. Having wild ponies,Horses and cows wandering through poking there heads in our awning it was great my children loved stroking the ponies. Showers where cleaned every day and plenty of them so did not have long to wait. The laundry room got very busy and only had 1 working tumble dryer, We enjoyed the cycling roots and spotted wild deer in the pine trees. Lyndhurst was a short drive away with good shops and restaurants. This site was very busy so booking a spot is a must in high season we wanted to stay an extra night but they where fully booked and people waiting for are pitch.Dog friendly site. We enjoyed our stay here.

We've stayed at Hollands Wood many times before and always loved it, but were really disappointed this time - 3 days at the beginning of August 2007. The setting is idyllic - camping in the middle of a forest with wild ponies wandering freely. As it's on the outskirts of Brockenhurst it's also in an ideal location for exploring the New Forest. I think we probably just hit a bad time this time, we've never been in August before, but the site was full to bursting, the ground extremely muddy and the facilities were filthy with long queues at all times of the day and night. The people in charge of the site are friendly, but there were long queues for reception and the site office where ice-blocks are usually available. I say usually because we didn't manage to get any blocks on the 3 days we were there as they couldn't freeze them quickly enough to meet demand. Normally I would recommend this site to anyone, but although we will be back, we won't be going during the peak season again!

Very overpriced this site. It was very pretty and the facilities were very good, but because it's Forestry Commission it is expensive, was about £150 for a long weekends camping! We did have a pony try and get in our tent, so keep all food in containers! We were pitched with two other families on a small area but got quite a sarcastic comment from the ranger that another tent could have been fitted on there when it really couldn't. Would only return here if it wasn't so expensive.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Hollands Wood - you should be warned that if free roaming horses and cows are not your cup of tea this is not the site for you. We found it delightful to share your early morning cuppa with a nosy horse or two and the kids were thrilled. This site is large, and unlike other forest sites is not a cleared field but pitches are random amongst the trees. Shower blocks have loos with tissue and are clean and plentiful, hairdryer for 20p (plenty of time to dry even a thick mane) Good dish washing room. No on-site shop just basics and ice pack purchase at reception but nearby Tesco express in Brockenhurst 2 min drive. Lovely surrounding areas. All in all a great place to camp. Definately return.
