May 2003 I have just stayed at this campsite and had a lovely time. The traffic on the road can be heard, but it's not very busy! We had no problems with noise (not a sound was heard during the night from the school party who pitched near to us). There were lots of ponies wandering around, a fair few of them had foals (and a lot more look like they were about to). Thoroughly recommend it!

25-27th April 2003 We decided to have couple of days walking and camping this weekend and decided try a different site from our usual New Forest location.
So yes is started raining on Friday but by the time we got to the site it looked like it had had actually been raining all week. Masses of large puddles all over the site and we must have spent and 40 mins driving round the site looking for a less boggy/lake like pitch. We eventually settled on somewhere on the left side of the park and as someone pointed out the noise from the road is quite loud so if you in a tent AVOID. Also we found the ground on this side to consist of a sandy soil with loads...and I mean loads of small stones so pitching the tent was a little difficult.
Saturday turned out nice for the most part with the horses walking through our camp looking for food etc but got a nice walk in. Now here's the really good bit. Now I know people have mentioned about the horses going for rubbish and there are signs up saying about not touching, feeding etc the horses it's a pity someone didn't give them the same info. At 5’oclock this morning a horse decided our tent was the 5th fence at the Grand National and began clawing or should I say hoofing the tent. As my girlfriend shook me awake it became more daring and it actually put more force on the tent squashing it and its hoof touched her stomach at this point she screamed and either this or for some other reason it then left us. After this there was no way she would get back to sleep so I was up and dressed by 5:15 keeping horse watch and packing away a few bits, we were packed and off the site by 8:00. Obviously we can see the funny side of this now but at the time she was petrified and who knows what might have happened if the horse had put its full weight on her or even trampled tent.
Apart from that the site is ok with good facilities. But what could have been better?
Well the NT sites all have wardens, when we arrived in the rain it would have been nice if the wardens, who I would expect to have a little knowledge of the site, gave a bit more advice than just ‘Camp Anywhere’, they new we were in a tent so they may advised us to stick to the right or the site away from the road or which areas of the site has the best ground for pitching a tent and where the least flooded areas are, am I expecting too much?
Now as for the horses, it would be interesting to know how often the horses get this close to the campers. If you’re in a Caravan or Motor home then I’m sure it’s not an issue. But for tents I’d like to see an area roped or fenced off that the horses can’t access (there are already tent only sections, but these have a fence my dog could step over and big gaps every so often). I’d certainly feel safer knowing the bleeding great things aren’t going to mistake my tent for a large sugar lump and start grazing on it in the middle of the night.
Will we go back, I don’t think so.

June 2002 I would say this is my favourite campsite in Hampshire, we've been here a number of times and will be returning again. Although the site is massive with 600 pitches it never feels that large as you are camping in the forest so can't see the other end of the site for trees!
It's reasonable safe for children to play, lots of gravel paths for them to cycle around some large fallen trees, which make great climbing frames.
The atmosphere is always relaxed, you can choose your own pitch and you don’t feel constantly hassled by wardens with stupid rules and regulations, and moaners objecting to children playing and enjoying there holiday.
Other PLUS points, no bar, no big shop, no on-site entertainment, (apart from the horses that bimble through the site at their leisure,) no club house, just trees.
Evening time can be quite atmospheric with BBQ smoke wafting through the trees, there can be a little bit of noise from some campers, but never objectionable, your camping what do you expect.
The only downsides, during peak periods you may have to wait 5 mins for a free shower, but hey! your on holiday, no hurry! And the A337 runs down the left-hand of the site which can be a bit noisy if you are in a tent, but a camper van no problem. In fact we usually camp on this side of the site as there’s more privacy due to more trees.

July 2001 WE've been to this site a few times, and planning another trip there in a couple of weeks. We love it because its huge, but because there are so many trees, it feels a bit more personal and peaceful. Its also very central for walking around, and also visiting places like Lyndhurst and Lymington. Love it! wish there were more like it!

Great site, large but surprisingly peaceful. One bit of advice though, don't leave your bag of rubbish outside the tent at night! We did and we had a possee of ponies visit us at 4:00 in the morning who made a terrific noice in opening the bag and spreading the contents in several directions. We weren't brave enough to tell the ponies to 'go away'.

We have been to this site several times and are very impressed. The setting is smashing with roomy pitches set amongst the trees. Ponies wander about and you can see small herds of deer near the camping area. Facilities are good and it is a nice, quiet site without noisy clubhouses, etc.
