Fantastic campsite! Highly recommended. Stunning setting, esp with the wonderful New Forest ponies and their foals wandering through camp each day. It's set in a great location given the village is only a 10min walk away (with a Tescos Metro and numeruous takeaways if you fancied one) and lots of nearby attractions to visit like the Owl & Otter Sanctuary in Ashurst.
Shower facilities top class and staff very friendly and helpful, if not a little regimented! For example Last Post is sounded at 10pm on a weeknight and 10.30pm on a weekend so whether it's a hint for us campers to shut up and go to bed I'm not sure?! Fun all the same. Woe betide you erect a windbreaker of more than 6 poles though (mainly to avoid erecting what could cause a sort of corale for the wild ponies + their foals) so not a silly rule really but one to be aware of. Overall a wonderful campsite and I would definitely be returning!

We stayed at this site for 3 nights over May Bank Holiday. We arrived late afternoon on the Saturday to find the site was full (luckily we had booked) but this meant we had to drive around looking for a suitable pitch, which is not easy when you're towing a large caravan. We settled on a pitch near the middle toilet block but within an hour we were completely blocked in and many of those pitched around had no idea of how far 6 metres is - it was a nightmare! It poured with rain that night and we found many tents packed up the next day which meant we could move to a lovely pitch overlooking the heath. Our daughter loved the ponies coming up close to the caravan but other than that there was little for children to do on site, which was a problem given the poor weather. It is a short walk to Brockenhurst over the field and past a lovely river. We can recommend eating at the Rose and Crown in the village. We didn't use the toilet block as we had our own facilities but we did pop in on the way back from a walk and found them to be realitvely clean considering the amount of rain and the muddy fields. We would definitely use this site again but feel it would benefit from marking out pitch numbers to avoid the chaos we encountered on the first night.

I visited the Hollands Wood campsite 2nd bank hol in May. I was pleasantly surprised when we drove through the reception and greeted by a lovely staff member, who was v. Friendly. We pitched up by the side, under a tree. I thought it was a great spot, as we did arrive quite late, 5PM on the Friday. Two problems: shortly after we arrived, we were in a secluded part of the campsite and a family arrived, there was at least 15 of them opposite our tent. Just across a path, but they were loud, it was just bit too close and their teenagers kept running into our tents and area, until around 9pm. But when you're having a holiday you would like to be left alone. And their dogs kept barking violently at everyone.
The vilage Brockenhurst was lovely with plenty of wateringholes. The Tesco had everything you needed and if you forget to pack your toothbrush.
Facilities onsite were great, clean, and well located. No problems there.
We found the postcode, although correct, when used in Tom Tom took us a few miles away.
2nd problem, as you pitch your spot be careful not to pitch by the road, as we didn't notice the noise until our first night and it was quite loud. So I suggest leaving a bit earlier and arriving to grab a spot nearer the fields, to block out any noise of traffic.
All in all, a great place. It's a shame the site book less people, but obviously do not wanna turn any business because I found the site a little too crammed. There was tents, caravans, and cars every patch of grass.
Seeing the horses were wonderful in the morning, they were so cute. I would recommend this yes. Maybe not a bank holiday or half term as it was packed.

Just returned from 3 nights during second BH weekend (the rainy windy one). My husband & I camped for the very first time at Hollands Wood last year so it was lovely to return. However, it was absolutely packed! We were informed that there were approx 3,000 campers on site over the weekend. The toilets and showers were never too busy and were kept cleaned and well stocked with loo roll and soap but the site was busy with tents & cars blocking views and generally too close for privacy & comfort. I wonder whether they should take less campers or somehow control the distances between the tents. Otherwise, it's a great location in the New Forest and there's plenty to enjoy. Of course, the weather was crazy on Sunday night and by Monday morning there were huge areas waterlogged and a few poor souls had to pack up in small lakes. There didn't seem to be any sense to where the water pooled so I don't think you'd even be able to anticipate and avoid.
So overall a good campsite, especially for those with kids.

We went over the 2nd bank holiday in May and had a lovely time.
The facilities were amazing.
Only queued once for showers.
The site was amazing. Beautiful and spacious. There's a large field to go walking and plenty of forest adjoining to explore.
Woke up with horses in the morning, was very exciting!
Even with the rain we had it was great. Would definitely recommend and go again!
Most people very respectful of noise late and night. Never kept me awake.
Shops in Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst not far and covered all needs.
Excellent camping!

Stayed at this site as a first time reluctanct camper and have been completely converted.
The site was beautifully located - mostly wooded but looking out onto open countryside on one side. The facilities (shower, toilets and washing areas etc) were absolutely imaculate, although some of the fellow campers didn't help maintain this standard. The facilities were cleaned daily / regularly. Brokenhurst was a very short walk away where there were plenty of pubs, restaurants, takeaways and supermarkets so you never needed to get in the car.
Cycling and walking from the site was easy and very rewarding. Be prepared for cows and animals wandering around the site, especially in the early morning - I thought this was fantastic and so did the children.
The site is perfect if you want to be in the heart of the forest and close to nature and just enjoying simple things in life. I would definitely go back and have recommended the site to just about everyone.

Lovely setting and great staff. We went during the first May bank holiday and the site was full. Being close to Brockenhurst was great. Bring your bikes as there is some really good cycling to be had. Bad points - the noise of the road running along the campsite is quite off putting if you want piece and quiet. Also, at night the polo park opposite held parties in the marquee with loud music until the early hours. We stayed at the Holmsley site in the forest last year and I think on balance would rather go back to Holmsley than Hollands Wood.

Wonderful site, less than 1/2 full and it snowed! Amazing number of people in tents - more hardy than me. We anjoyed the ponies and walks and this was a real break. Have since heard this could be worth avoiding mid summer as gets very busy and noisy - I think the staff have their work cut out when full, but certainly off season it was great.
Kids had a great time and the dogs loved the freedom to run - away from ponies! All in all wrap up warm and try well out of season - good for all local trips as nothing seems too far away.

This was our second visit here, but the first was several years ago before we had children. It’s a lovely setting for a camp site – lots of trees and shaded plots, with one side of the site opening on to a big common bordered by forest – if you are lucky enough to get a pitch in this area (as we did) it’s great for children with loads of room to play, climb on logs, see the ponies, and great for an evening walk.
Washrooms – there are 3 blocks with plenty of toilets and showers – never saw a queue, nice warm water, laundry room (which we didn’t use). I felt the washrooms could have been a bit cleaner & should have been checked more often as it was the busy school holiday period. The ladies toilets ran out of toilet paper several times while we were there and some of the sinks got blocked. The showers have a communal changing area outside and no room to get dried and dressed in the cubicles or even to hang your towel up in the cubicle – I don’t think I’m unusually modest in preferring a bit of privacy when I’m getting dried and dressed. Given how much more expensive it is to stay here than a toilets-only site like Ocknell, I felt the facilities were not really worth the extra money.
The site was full while we were there (last weekend of the school holidays) and I did find it a bit noisy – there were cars driving past the tent all evening up to 10pm when they lock the gates, and the site didn’t get really quiet until after 11pm, but it is a big site, so is bound to be noisier than a smaller site.
The staff were a bit officious and it seemed quite regimented, but again because it’s a big site, they probably have to be more watchful about who goes in and out. Our tent was slightly damaged by ponies while we were out and one of the staff rushed over when we got back and started telling us off for leaving food in the tent (which we hadn’t) and feeding the ponies (which we hadn’t). I felt more upset by his attitude than the damage to the tent which wasn’t major.
The site is on the edge of Brockenhurst which has everything you might need (restaurants, takeaways, cycle hire, hardware shop, Tesco, bus and train services, etc), and also has good road links around the area.
In summary, I think there could be a few improvements, mainly in the washroom blocks, but I would visit the site again because it is such a beautiful location for camping.

Returned to Hollands Wood with a new tent, Outwell Montana 4 and our bikes. It poured down with rain and we made the mistake of selecting a smooth pitch,(when it wasnt raining). When it did rain it came down in buckets and a large puddle developed right under the tent. It felt like walking on a water bed. The OUTWELL has a high sew in groundsheet and so no water got in at all.
TIP: If you camping in bad weather, Place a very large heavy duty carrier bag just inside the tent foor to step into to change your footwear.
Although it rained constantly, still had a wonderful time. Will definitely go back.
