We were not at all disappointed. This is a really beautiful area and you could not pitch your tent in a bad spot (maybe away from the road) The area is of outstanding beauty.
All pitches are flat and easy to stake out. There are 2 toilet / shower / laundry / washing up blocks which are spotless. Plenty of hot water for wash up and showers. Extras like dog wash (sure this is good but didn't try it ha, ha)
Staff were really helpful and friendly (turned out they live only 3 miles from us and work from April - October on site - WOW)
There is plenty of space for children and lots to see and do locally. Nice to wake up at 5.30 and hear the dawn chorus and go out of your tent and see cows and ponies wandering around oblivious to their strange two legged companions.
I would thoroughly recommend this site to anyone but if you can try pitching away from the road. Try the Rose and Crown in Brockenhurst good food and beer. Good base to explore the New Forest and surrounding area. Perhaps a little expensive but facilities are well worth the extra few quid

A great site, we have visited on lots of occasions. Although the site is huge it still manages to have a very relaxed atmosphere. There are no electric hook ups or marked out pitches, basically you find a pitch you like and put your tent up!
The staff are very friendly and helpful, there is no shop on site but the village has a tesco store and many shops selling local produce.
There are plenty of toilets and showers which are all kept very clean by staff members.
If you can take a bike, there are so many cycle paths through the forest most of which you do not need to go on a rode, so ideal for children. My girls loved the ponies around the campsite, but be warned they will try and get in your tent given half a chance.
Hollands Wood is a great site and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxed forest holiday, which is still within walking distance of shops and great village pubs.

After deciding it was about time my 3yo experienced the joys of camping in a tent, we chose somewhere not too far from home, but with a different enough landscape to be of interest, and so the New Forest was the perfect choice.
Having stayed at Roundhill a couple of years ago, and Denny Wood throughout a few childhood holidays, Hollands Wood sounded like a nice change.
Upon arrival, everything was efficient and organised and well explained. It took a few minutes of driving around to find a flat, clean, private pitch, but we eventually found what we were looking for. A lot of the larger, flatter areas had been claimed and as this is a woodland site, be prepared to spend a few minutes clearing your chosen pitch.
The facilities were clean and easily accessible, and we had no problems with queues or other peoples messes. In the evenings the sound soon quietened down, in fact, if anything my excited son was probably responsible for most of the post dark noise anyway!
It was great to see his reaction to the New Forest ponies wandering through the site, and his getting excited at the birdsong in the morning.
The road noise wasn't an issue, it could be heard, but only as a distant background noise.
Lymington, Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst are also very easily reached from the site, as well as Beaulieu Heath and other wide open spaces.
In all, not much to complain about. The only gripe I have is that the Forest Holidays website quoted £13.50 per night (therefore £27 total), but there was a 'hidden' Friday-Saturday supplement of £10 that wasn't made clear.
A shop and children's playground would have been useful, but were not essential.
Overall though, a nice, quiet site, with well kept facilities, and a good base for travelling around the New Forest.

We spent only one night at this site, but it was a very pleasant experience. The staff were so helpful, especially Kev. Very well organised.
The toilets and showers were exceptionally clean.
We did feel it was a little highly priced as there wasn't any electrics, but having said that it was a very peaceful site despite the size.
Would return to the site again.

I feel really compelled to review this site, because it truly is a tiny piece of heaven!
The site itself is clean, well maintained and very peaceful. The site is heavily wooded which we loved, unlike other sites in the new forest that are essentially just fields, this really is a wood, and we loved the fact that we were free to pitch anywhere, so we found a quiet clearing surrounded by trees!
The toilet facilities are great! There are three very large toilet blocks spread evenly through the park! They have hot modern showers that are very clean with changing areas and hairdryers! lol!
There are some lovely pubs and restaurants a short walk away (15mins), but don't forget a torch! There is no lighting on the walk home or in the site itself, and because the site has no structure in that you can pitch anywhere, you can easily lose your tent in the dark, as we did (even with a torch!)
I also loved the fact that caravans were kept very separate from the tent area, it gave a real feel of community amoung the tent campers!
This is a really lovely site, to which I will return again and again! Be sure to check it out!

Just back from a (pre-booked) two night stay at Hollands Wood, as usual camping with another couple of friends. It seemed quite pricey for a campsite but we were attracted by not having set pitches, good facilities, and easy to get to on a Friday afternoon.
They arrived first and drove around a few times looking for a good place to pitch our two largeish tents. They found a lovely, level, area, furthest from the entrance and to the right, away from the road, under a couple of oak trees.
We'd had dry weather and it was very dusty underfoot, we wondered whether it would be muddy after rain, or whether the trees would supply good cover. Fortunately didn't get to find out!
We arrived after dark and so couldn't really appreciate this till morning, when we discovered how pretty the setting is, with other campers dotted about among the trees. People stopped to chat with each other.
Facilities were very good, clean and modern, but I'd like to have a shelf and/or a seat in the shower, there were only a couple of small hooks to hang everything.
We took a short drive into Lymington on Saturday, there were market stalls along the High Street and lovely boats on the water; we had a lovely stroll. Back at the campsite we chilled out enjoying the sunshine.
The horses weren't a problem, we kept food sealed and in the centre of the tent rather than near any zips. Keep your rubbish bagged up and thrown into the (plentiful) bins promptly. As usual, be sensible and everything will be fine.
Definitely somewhere we would return to, perhaps even base a week-long holiday here.

Just got back from camping for two nights at Holland's Wood and here are some thoughts:
- Very friendly staff. My boyfriend and I don't have a car so use public transport when camping and Holland's Wood gave us 'backpackers' rates of £6 each per night (these aren't advertised on their website). They also said as we were classed as backpackers, they'd always be able to fit us in, even if they were theoretically full.
- Massive, massive site. Camp where ever you like, within reason. Most people kept to the 6 metre apart rule. Ponies were roaming freely and like other people below have said, DO NOT FEED THEM unless you want them pestering you all day.
- Excellent, clean facilities. Plenty of showers and loos to go round and spotless when I used them.
- Only 15 minute walk to Brockenhurst rail station so ideal if you don't have a car. Pub down the road, 'Rose and Crown' was good, and the town has adequate shops and more pubs. 2 cycle hire places in Brockenhurst too. Basically just a very good location.
Would definitely recommend this to anyone, especially those without a car.

Stayed here 5 nights in August. Campsite was extremely busy, brochure and sign on entrance says there is a 6m rule that must be adhered to or you will be asked to move. We went out one day and when we came back there was a tent barely 3m from us. When we spoke to someone who came and had a look he said there is no such rule, the legal requirement is 3m and there's nothing they can do and denied it said 6m anywhere in their literature. We didn't want an arguement about it and asked if we moved on could we have our money back, they said no. The campsite was noisy, the traffic noise from the road went on all day and night, and there was a constant stream of people walking to/from the toilets.
On the plus side, the facilities are good, not always clean but never much of a queue. The kids (age 3,5) had a great time, lots of other kids to play with. Campsite is very safe and child friendly. Ponies a great attraction. Lots of things to do within 20 mile radius. Recommend Adventure Wonderland in Christchurch, Bournemouth, excellent day out.

Just come back from 3 nights at Hollands Wood Campsite. Usually always camp in North Devon but thought to try somewhere new.
Had to leave this review as we had a great time and would recommend the campsite for sure.
WE - 2 Adults 1 baby and 2 dogs.
Arrived on 31/8 bank holiday monday and the site was virtually full, but by 12 a mass exodus had taken place and the site was half empty! Result.
The Toilets and Showers were spotless and Unbusy, the facilities were well situated, with the site stretching to about a mile long from end to end giving a good variety of camping spots.
Very picturesque surroundings and a good location for visiting the coast and other areas of the New Forest.
The site was very quiet in the evenings with no loud people or music to disturb the tranquillity.
The ponies and wildlife were great and didn't try and steal our food!
RECOMMENDED

'Hollands Wood. You're never less than three miles from the toilet block!. My suggested slogan.
I'm not a fan, it's too big for me, I stopped off on the way back from Cornwall and Devon where I had been staying in independent campsites. Therefore, the shock of a 600 pitch site really didn't appeal!
There were so many things I found displeasing, the dulcit tones of the A31 and the highlight being the motorbikes racing. Nice! I think the 5mph should apply to people on pushbikes too! Upon arrival, everyone is issued with the toilet block pass code. Why? Are they fearful that the wild ponies may break in? Surely if everyone on the site knows the combination, why do they need it? Okay, so maybe some people can get on to the site but they could just ask someone professing to have forgotten it. But the highlight for me, was the rock floor that made it very very difficult to put my tent up.
I should still be there now but left early. It's the most expensive site I've ever been to which is crazy given the lack of facilities for so many people.
