On arrival at the camp site you are guided into relevant lanes, on weather you have a pass or not. Once you have the pass you skip past all the vehicles that don't have passes, this is a very good feature. You are greeted by pleasant staff who give good advice and are more than willing to help.
Pitches are drive and find the best one, so it is best to arrive as early as possible, however we arrived late Friday afternoon and there were no shortage of pitches, however all the best were taken. Staying away from the road is advisable but not necessary as the noise is minimal.
On site facilities are minimal there are toilets, showers, dog showers, chemical disposal units etc. The toilets are fairly modern and fairly clean, however they are not the best that I have seen. There are a lot of bins around so finding somewhere to put your rubbish is not a problem.
About a mile down the road is a little town that offers various shops and pubs. There is also a Tesco for all the last minute forgotten things.
Woodland walks are what this site is all about and the children really enjoyed walking amongst the ponies and cows.
It rained during our stay and the rain came straight into the porch area of the tent and flooded it. Tip get there early and get a good pitch.
We really enjoyed the site, however and this is slightly picky, but it is just a wood. It is quite pricey for what you get. I have been to better sites that are cheaper and that offer better facilities. But that is the only real thing that I can think of that is wrong. We all have opinions and this is just mine and my family's.
The site is well worth a try, however remember try and get there early to get a good pitch, and take some waterproofs.

This is the first time we have visited this camp site, upon arrival we were warmly welcomed and handed a leaflet about the surrounding area and warned not to feed the ponies which is great advice but they forgot to warn us about the 'crows', they are a real nuisance and can't wait to take-over the area where you are. We left some bread rolls out, (they were left in a carrier bag) whilst visiting the toilet block upon our return there were a swarm of crows happily munching on the rolls. They are a real nuisance, so be warned!
The camp site on the whole is a lovely place to stay if you are staying during the week, it is extremely clean and has excellent facilities.
Friday evening the campsite changed, it began to fill up with quite a few 'weekend campers' who have no respect for others regarding noise and most of them ignored the 5MPH speed limit which in turn churned up so much dust as they were zooming past which was no fun at all whilst you are sitting there trying to eat and relax!
Also, someone came around at 7pm to cut the edges of the grass with a strimmer, this was definitely uncalled for at this time of night and should be restricted to during the day.
The toilet/shower block is excellent and kept spotless which makes a pleasant change.
There are plenty of bins supplied for your rubbish, these are essential as you cannot leave food around because of the visiting wildlife.
To sum it up I would recommend this campsite and will definitely be visiting again.

We've been to Hollands Wood four times now. As with other Forestry Commission sites its very efficiently run, although personally I dread the obligatory meeting with the green-polo shirt with a clipboard on arrival. I've found that explaining I've been a few times before doesn't excuse me from being issued with the site rules and then listening to them explained for my beneift.
You can choose where you'd like to pitch but, as others have said, best to avoid the road side of the site if possible. Cars travel fast down the section of road passing the site and the other side provides direct access to the Forest, so a much better option.
The site is about 20 minutes walk into Brockenhurst, which has plenty of pubs and places to eat. You cross a small river on the way, which our kids enjoyed spending an hour at.
The biggest problem we've found with this site is that it becomes really crowded at busy times. When full, there really is very little room between tents, especially as pitches are not marked. We've pitched our tent and gone out on previous visits and returned to find that other campers have pitched their tent so close that their guy ropes overlap ours.
We've also found that there are often people who go camping to sit around late into the evening having a few beers and a giggle. Fair enough, that's one of the pleasures of camping but its worth knowing if you're after a quiet night and a good sleep.
Overall a well run site with good facilities, close to the village yet with direct access to the New Forest. The downside? Really crowded at busy times with little room between pitches.

We stayed at Hollands Wood on Easter weekend this year. The weather wasn't great. Pretty wet so one third of the pitches were unavailable.
Beautiful campsite, although avoid pitching too near the main road through the New Forest. Its really close to Brockenhurst, which has a handy Tesco Express, good pubs and takeaways.
Toilet/shower block nice and clean most of the time - even with the mud!
Lots going on for the kids over the Easter weekend including an Easter bonnet competition, puppet show and bunny hunt.
The only real downer about this site is the price. We paid over £100 for 4 nights and we have the Forest Holidays card that gives £3/night discount. Its expensive, but on balance its probably worth it as the New Forests is such a great place for a break.

This site was fantastic. Such a lovely setting and brilliant facilities. We visited on the May Bank Holiday but arrived on the Thursday before for a two night stay. When we arrived the staff were exceptionally friendly.
We pitched the tent in a perfect place overlooking the heathland and all the ponies. There wasn't actually anything to moan about at all. The showers were hot and clean and plentiful, washing up room was always clean (if a little busy on the Saturday morning) and the information available about the surrounding area was brilliant.
It did get busy on Saturday understandably but still had a peaceful feel. It was so close to Brockenhurst which is great for a food shop and pubs but still felt very 'away from it all'.
We will definitely be going back here.

Went on the busy May bank holiday weekend (the site was full), got there early as no pitches are allocated and we bagged the one we wanted. It never seemed as busy as we feared, they seem to handle and limit the numbers well. Staff welcoming and friendly as always. Had a fantastic stay in our fave spot under the trees looking out across the water meadow (we wont tell you where this fab spot is though!). Toilet and Washing area facilities fantastically clean as always.
We got gate crashed by ponies as always, but it adds to the charm. Good shops and takeaway (also delivers to the site) just up the road and a couple of pubs all in 15-20min walking distance, loads of tracks lead off into the woods, along with a lovely river side picnic site a few hundred yards away.

We chose Hollands Wood campsite because of its location (just outside the beautiful village of Brockenhurst in the New Forest) and excellent reviews on ukcampsite.Co.Uk. When we arrived late on the Friday afternoon of the May Spring Bank Holiday, there was a notice saying that the site was fully booked; so we were pleased that we had booked on-line the day before.
It is a large site situated amongst the New Forest trees and we found a perfect spot between 2 trees on the east side of the site - away from the road noise and near enough to the open field that we could let our children go and play on, but still be able to see them. More people pitched up on Saturday (presumably also pre-booked!), but it was reassuring to know that even at their presumed maximum capacity, the site still did not feel cramped.
We were a 2 minute walk from 1 (of 3) of the toilet, shower and washing up blocks - which were new and I always found relatively clean. A team of cleaners thoroughly cleaned all of our toilet/shower block for over 40 minutes each late morning, which thankfully only caught us out once and meant a short walk to the next block. I did have to queue for a shower for about 15/20 minutes each morning (around 10:30am), but it was worth it is use these clean and hot facilities! The washing-up room was small to fit 6 sinks and draining boards in, but I was happy as there was 1 low level sink that the kids were able to use to wash up at! The queue for this was always short.
The staff were all friendly and approachable and it was nice to be on a site were campers (rather than caravanners) were the majority. Everyone around us were families with children and considerate, respectful and friendly like ourselves.
During our stay, we enjoyed cycling, crossing/paddling the river, observing the ponies strolling around the site and eating an excellent 'Snakecatcher Burger' in the Snakecatcher PH right next to Brockenhurst Station while the children went on the massive trampoline. Maybe the addition of a children's playground would be advantageous, but then our children were never bored!
This site is more expensive than others, but worth every extra penny!

Visited 1st May Bank Holiday, site was very busy, have used this site over the years, but to me it is loosing its charm. Its very expensive for what you get. Showers were good and nice and hot but washing up sinks there just are not enough of so you always have to line up. To me they would be better to limit the numbers on the site to give more space between tents/people. Found it very noisy this visit, did not help a kid behind us in next unit brought his trumpet to practice! Why????

Just got back from our first camping trip and what a great site. My husband has taken some convincing that camping will be for us and he was most impressed. Phew what a relief after investing in all the gear!
As first timers we weren't sure of how it all works but when we arrived a very friendly chap came and explained that we could pitch where we like within marked areas etc so off we went to find the perfect spot. We got the tent up without too much trouble and then set off with our two dogs for a walk in the forest, the location was delightful the only downside was some road noise as the site is very close to the main road but, it certainly wasn't too bad. We found a very useful camping shop in Lyndhurst to buy some extra bits that we needed and went back to the site ready to fire up our stove and have our first camp stove meal. The washing up facilities were very clean and the water was lovely and hot as were the toilet and shower blocks - Keith was dreading dirty facilities and cold showers but it wasn't the case at all and once again we were very impressed. We woke on Monday morning to find our 'perfect pitch' had infact turned into a bit of a pond and everything was soaked and muddy- just our luck as we had to pack and come home. Whilst we were struggling to get packed, we were now looking like a couple of professional mud wrestlers! one of the wardens came over and offered to let us stay until later free of charge to let things dry out a bit, although rain was set for the day. Then said we could leave the tent for a few day's and collect in later in the week and he would keep an eye on it, we live two hours drive away so it wasn't really an option. What we were so astounded by was the generosity and willingness of staff to help us solve a difficult problem.
All in all it was a fantastic break with lot's of walking and general relaxation, the area is lovely with the forest and the coast within easy reach. Our two night stay was superb value for money and we will definitely be back and will recommend Hollands Wood to anyone.

Great site in a lovely location. Enthusiastic staff and modern well kept facilities. Not the cheapest of sites but one of the nicest and most natural with a true New Forest feel. No hook up available. Main road adjacent to site can be noisy but easy to avoid as site is large. Easy stroll to Brockenhurst offering good facilities including excellent family pubs. (The Snakecatcher provides a free trampoline and free Wii for kids). Will return, probably often.
