September 2004 2nd visit to the campsite this year, and had such a good time I thought I'd write a quick review
A large campsite, must stretch over 1 mile in length and half a mile in width. Situated next to a main road to Lyndhurst, best pitches are next to the large open fields - which are great for ball games.
Facilities are very good, although showers can get busy in the mornings
Location is very good for visiting a variety of local towns - lyndhurst and Lymmington being close
I only found a small site shop, a larger one would have been more convenient, but this did not detract from the great time we had
Overall 8/10

May 2004 First camping trip for our family. Camping is amongst the trees, so felt like your in the forest. Can listen to owls and other birdlife throughout the night. Squirrels invaded our tent at night(nicked my fruitcake). Horses always around the site, wandering through and munching grass around you as you sleep. Staff were helpful and friendly. Facilities were excellent, clean toilets and showers, laundry facilities etc. Only ten minutes from Brockenhurst, and cycle hire even closer. Only downside is the vicinity of the main road. Traffic noise starts quite early and goes on quite late. We had booked the dog free area to camp in which was small and disregarded by some dog owners. We will return.

August 2004 Our trip included the bank holiday so the site was packed , and due to the rain and the size of our tent we had problems finding a suitable pitch, even though we had to pay for two, we ended up right next to one of the access roads with cars driving past us at all hours and nobody seemed to bother with the speed limit. The main road was an issue because of the noise it certainly wasn't a peaceful site .On the upside the showers , toilets and facilities were very good and clean.

August 2004 I’ve just come back from a week at this site. I enjoyed it a great deal, but there are some points I would like to make.
We camped on the right hand side of the site near the road and although there was noise it was not enough to bother us. The site was busy, but the pitches were spread out enough to make it seem empty. The site had a good relaxed and family feel to it. Most the pitches had deep ridges that made camping a little uncomfortable. The drainage was diabolical and the heavy rain we had flooded the site.
On a whole the site was good, but a little too wooded for me - sleeping on tree roots, too much mud, no drainage and the sun going down behind the trees three hours earlier than it would do if you were out of the woods are the down side to camping amongst the trees. The site was a little too far from anywhere for my liking and I’d like to have been further from the A337 so we didn’t have to drive down it every time we wanted to go somewhere.
It is a good site and we had a great time, but we probably wont go back.

Aug 2004 First the many positives. Lovely setting. A feeling of privacy even though this is a very Large site, clean, tidy, showers clean and warm, loos clean, everything worked.Ice blocks, milk and bread from friendly staff at the office. Road noise is there but not really an issue. Ponies everywhere - the kids loved it. Beautiful walks around as strenuous as you want to make them. We on the whole loved the place and enjoyed our 4 day camp.
If this was all of it - perfection However in my case there is the BUT. So Ok its peak season, school holidays - the site is going to be packed with kids. I know I had 2 of them! But add each kid with a bike and it felt like we were camping in an adventure playground. Unrestrained kids in packs on bikes from age 3 to 33 going round and round and round our tent - sometime thru it! Add in the (inevitable) inconsiderate camp who decides its parrrty time and what you don't have is a tranquil forest experience. What you do have is parents letting their offspring do their thing in a clean relatively safe environment while they knock back the wine leading to camping in a kind of licensed wooded adventure playground. The only "tranquil" time was 5 in the morning. You have been warned!

July 2004 First campsite we have used as we are novice campers..... went with some friends for support!
Very big site, but set in woodlands so you dont really see the scale of the place.
Toilets and showers clean and not too far away.
We camped by a big open field which was great for our friends kids to play on. Horses roamed freely around too.
Good site but one of the dearer ones around, but then again the facilities were good and its a great base to explore the New Forst and surrounding area.

July 2004 Our first experience of camping and deinitely a good one! At peak season weekends this is one of the pricier sites, but facilities were very good and well worth the extra money. Although a large site, as it is set in the forest, you don't get the feeling that you are surrounded by people. The site has everything you could really want (apart perhaps from hook-ups). Reception sells some basic provisions and also offers an ice-pack freezing service which is handy! Toilets and showers are clean and well heated, and plenty of places to wash up. The site is conveniently located for lots of attractions in the New Forest. Highly recommend a trip to the coast (about 20 mins drive away). Visit the coastal area of Milford for lovely views of the Isle Of Wight and walk along the spit to Hurst Castle. All in all we loved our trip and will definitely be returning again soon. Nothing beats the feeling of waking up in the forest in the morning to the smell of a hundred breakfasts being cooked al-fresco!

June 2004 Just about one of the nicest sites! Plenty of room between pitches even though the site was full. Toilets and showers very clean. Set amongst the trees having a BBQ marvellous! Take your bike and explore the numerous trails. A visit to the village of Brockenhurst is a must. No electric hook up but theres not much point in going back to nature if you take it all with you is there ;0)

June 2004 The campsite is in a lovely setting, surrounded by woods and although there are 600 pitches you don't feel like you are surrounded by people. The ponies wander through the site which the children loved. There was no need for play parks as the woods entertained the children no end. The surrounding area is great for walks and if you don't fancy cooking there is a chinese takeaway nearby which is very good. The facilities are clean and the showers hot. As first time campers we found the other 'tenters' very friendly and would definitely return to Hollands Wood again.

June 2004 Have just spent the weekend at this lovely site in the New Forest. There are 600 pitches in a large area under the trees and open areas. They are all level and not far from the two toilet blocks. Dogs are welcome but must stay on the lead, however, for exercise, a short walk and you are into open countryside and woodland. You must keep at least 20ft between pitches, but this is not a problem as there is lots of room. If you don't like dogs, then there is a special dog free zone which you would need to book in advance. There are areas for tents only or tourers, but most seemed happy to mix in together. The site is clean and well run. Do not expect shops, swimming pools, bars etc. because there are none on site. Brockenhurst is about 20 minutes on foot and has it all. The New Forest ponies will come onto the site but wont bother you. There are lots of foals at the moment, so dont go too close or try to feed them as it is banned and you could get bitten or kicked.
They do like a minimum of 3 nights booking but we got away with two. The area is fabulous every thing is available close by even including the Ferry to the Isle of Wight, where you can get a day trip if you wish.
