We Stayed here during May bank Holiday. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful in advising where to pitch, despite it being busy we had plenty of space. Our little one had plenty of opportunity to build dens, go exploring and meet the wildlife namely ponies. You can have BBQ's and have a proper camping experience. The facilities are ample, clean and showers better than we have had at other sites. We would definitely go back. It is in an excellent location for exploring the New forest and there are major supermarkets not too far away. They don't have electric hook up's but they will change ice blocks and sell milk. Really close to Bulmer's Lawn (you could walk to it, apparently about 30mins) and the fab river which you often see people playing in.

I really liked this site. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the location is spot on, the facilities are well maintained and it's big enough to be able to find a quite spot. It has the feel of camping in a forest and not on a campsite. There was plenty of wildlife around and ponies wandering around the site. Brockenhurst is a ten to fiveteen minute walk and has some good pubs and shops, it's a good site for walking or cycling within the forest. We will be back.

Have just returned from short break here (from 12/09 for four nights). We have stayed at this campsite so many times as we love the New Forest with its quaint villages, wildlife, free roaming ponies and its many wooded areas to explore. We were sited near the middle facility block. The campsite did get busy at the weekend due to the Southampton Boat show, children not being at school and I would assume the pending Caravan and Motorhome show starting the following weekend.
The facility block was cleaned once a day and considering the amount of people on site it didn’t get that grubby between cleaning. There were queues in the morning for the showers but if you are an early bird you miss all that! On a couple of times the toilet roll was non-existent so make sure you take plenty of your own just in case.
Also if you do stay in a tent do make sure you secure all your food out of the way and make sure your tent is secured properly as one family hadn’t whilst we were there and their tent was ransacked by the donkeys who ate everything!
Brockenhurst is the nearby village and has an excellent bakers, butchers, Chinese and Fish and Chip shop. It also has a Tesco express, bank, tea shops and two shops that sell some camping equipment. In Lyndhurst is a bigger camping shop should you need anything.

Stayed here for my birthday had a great time, very friendly and helpful rangers, the site was near a main road but was big enough that the traffic noise didn't worry us, but did make for easy travel around the county, it was our first time here so wanted to see as much as possible,
The ponies were very cheeky but loveable!
Toilets kept very clean and tidy and although the site was very full never had to wait for a shower, would definitely visit again.

Pros: Very Scenic, great to be in amongst the forest
Cons: very busy, road noise
We stayed here as large group (5 families) for 2 nights on a weekend on August. We could all stay together and the woodland is really nice. The kids loved running round playing among the trees. There is also a nice heathland bordering onto the campsite.
On the downside, it was peak season so there were often big queues for washing up, showers and even toilets. We were on the road side of the site and traffic noise was quite intrusive. There was a large party of younger people near who stayed up until 1am one night, making quite a bit of noise. Not sure what the policy on this is.
Be aware, there is not much grass and the ground is mainly earth, leaves and twigs.
Overall, not bad, we had a fun weekend but my preference would be for a quieter site next time.

Due to the recent bad weather we decided to wait for a sunny spell and make a last minute booking. We've been here before and really enjoyed it so made a last minute booking over the phone which was better value than usual due to the 33% discount.
Upon arrival the 'site full' sign gave us the first indication that pitching wouldn't be easy and we have to drive around a lot to find a sensible pitch for 2 three man tents.
Eventually we ended up near the road (which is the sites biggest negative) but had a pitch to ourselves. On this side of the site a number of the pitches are separated from each other by the trees giving a private feeling to them. The site has a good quality fence against the road making it safe for children to wander around.
We'd have preferred to be camping on the other side but we'd have had to squeeze between other pitches to do so.
The toilet block is well maintained and modern although there is no shop on site so a trip into Brockenhurst is necessary.
BBQs are allowed although fires are not but this isn't really a problem with all the horses and cows wandering around. This might be a problem if you have a phobia of cows or horses as 30+ had settled in around the loo block one morning.
We haven't tried this site in bad weather but upon arrival a number of the pitches looked liek they'd had standing water recently so be careful where you pitch.
This is also a very good location to do day trips to the Isle of Wight. We usually park at Lymington and go across as foot passengers. The bus services are very good.

Stayed for 2 nights in August after seeing the good reviews. We were disappointed for the following reasons - the site was very noisy at times (children screaming/playing late into the evening, and some groups of people partying). I expected some noise with 600 pitches, but not this much. There is a busy road down one side, which we were advised to not pitch near so we didn't.
We were told the site was busy but could pitch our tent anywhere we liked - there was no grass for any of the pitches, just dried uneven stony dirt, that turned to mud when it rained.
A wild horse ripped our tent when trying to walk past, but we managed to make it water tight for the second night.
There is no lighting, which for us was not good - I badly sprained my ankle on a speed hump when trying to get to the toilet block one evening. You will need a torch!
The price was expensive (£24. 50) for what you got - 2 people, tent, car with no electric! I have been to 5 star sites with fully serviced grass pitches for less than that.
Toilet blocks were dated, cramped but served their purpose, and relatively clean considering how busy it was.
On the plus side, the location is good - it is about a 15 min walk to the local village where there is a small shop and 3 pubs.
The wardens were very helpful, and asked the noisy family near us to leave the following morning - which caused a loud argument but they eventually left. Someone else must have told the wardens, as they had an altercation with another pitch nearby.
All in all, I would not go back, but if the wardens ever go to work at another site, I will go to that one!

The great thing about this site is that if you don't have car and you only have a small tent, you can be there in no time at all from London Waterloo.
Brockenhurst is on the mainline from London but is the most picturesque village. The site is in the forest and strangely, although the site is large and near a main road, you can feel like you are miles from civilisation within moments.
Most people leave the site by car and don't go off-piste into the woods that are right next to the site. Brockenhurst has some lovely pubs and you can nip down the road to watch a game of cricket at the Brockenhurst Hotel too.
Alice in Wonderland is buried just down the road in Lyndhurst too. The site is well established and so has all the facilities that you would expect.
It is pretty large and I prefer smaller sites - that's the only reason it is down as 8 rather than 9 out of 10.

Our first experience of a 'proper' campsite with our young kids and a newly acquired VW California camper van.
Very impressed indeed. Excellent facilities with great showers and wash facilities, very friendly staff and great value for money too. Our pitch overlooked a lovely heath full of New Forest ponies and the area was very quiet on the first night, a Thursday.
Friday night was considerably busier but still fine - I can imagine it getting rather crowded in peak season!
The area is surrounded by nice forest trails - I'm a trail runner so enjoyed the 6 mile circuit (yes I did get lost!) around the heath area.
Only slight downsides are that the pitching areas are rather muddy and stony but this isn't the fault of the campsite owners.
Our two children, aged one and three loved it and so did our black labrador.
Overall, highly recommended!

It was our first time camping in the New Forest and I think we made a fantastic choice of staying at Hollands Wood.
We had pre-booked which was advisable for the main school summer holidays however a few days before we wanted to extend our stay by going an extra day early. I rang up to book but was unable to do this but was advised that as it was mid week it should be no problem to accommodate the extra day and it wasn't.
Check in was easy, rules and regulations were in place and easy to follow. Although it was peak season and the site was busy we managed to find a great spot just as someone was packing up.
I particularly loved this site as it was clean and amongst the trees, with horses roaming freely - just lovely. There is also an extremely large free area to the side of the campsite for children to play and roam.
The shower blocks were generally clean although had issues one day when it had rained as 1 shower user had not mopped out her shower after use, somehow leaving the floor mudd! Shame on you.
No problems with other campers, lots of families adding to a great community spirit.
It was no doubt our best camping trip and we will be returning again in 2012.
