We have been to hollands wood many times over the years, in tents, folding campers, but this was the first time in our new caravan.
The site is lovely, but we found it a bit expensive to stay there, over the bank holiday weekend. We did not really use the toilet blocks much, but when I did they were very clean but busy, but that is to be expected during a bank holiday weekend. We used our generator there during the permitted time of 10-11am or 3-4 pm, but we made sure we pitched near the noisy road to not disturb people.
One thing though the wardens were very friendly and always spoke to us.
All in all really pleased

What a fantastic site!
I am virtually allergic to the organised hi-de-hi type of camping, but do like a proper loo, so this was perfect.
Beautiful surroundings, and you are in touch with nature in a very real way - horses come into the camp, birds sit at your feet and there's hardly a demarcation between campsite and forest. Top marks to the Rangers, who keep this in great condition and enforce the sound and cleanliness policy (though shame they didn't enforce the proximity rules when we were there. Most people were good about it, but our little area attracted a late-coming large group who cramped the space and perhaps could have been directed elsewhere)
If you like 'wholesome' then this is for you - families playing frisbee, dog walking and cycling, and we saw/heard only one group playing music above 'personal level' and even they turned it off at sunset.M ost people BBQ'd and sat fire-staring in contented quiet, and there was a distinct showing of good manners and consideration around the site, which pleasantly surprised us!
Nearby, highly recommend Brockenhurst for long pub lunches, and Beaulieau for the car museum. We even took to bus to Lymington (so we could both enjoy waterside drinks!) - 15 mins of gaping at lovely estates and a relaxed way to get there.
Finally, the shower blocks/facilities. These did get dirty after peak times (the cleaner says the women are 5 times worse than the men) and there were some selfish people washing boots in sinks etc. But overall they were great. Hot showers, large cubicles to change in, and even a hairdryer for 20p. As 2 self-confessed 'yuppies' we felt we weren't sacrificing our comforts too much!

First went to Hollands wood on Easter bank holiday weekend 2008. Last time I had been to the New Forest I was only very young so don't remember too much about it, we wasn't sure what to expect but we had decided we had to try somewhere different to Dorset. So off we went to the Hollands Wood, it was busy, in fact it was very busy but it was a really good campsite and the best thing of all you don't have to camp in any designated or marked out space, you just camp in the areas of the wood you are allowed and that's it.
The shower block and facilities were all good, it being bank holiday weekend though they were of course packed, packed more than a Nissan in East London but they were all clean and tidy.
We had decided to stay for the 3nights but should have gone on the Sunday as early hours Monday morning the heavens opened and soaked everything in the wood. We had a new tent though and were kept perfectly dry it was just horrible packing the tent up when it was wet.
The site that weekend was perfect, it was hot and best thing of all that my girlfriend really liked was the fact of all the horses that just rode about. It's great to see a town and area that is still in touch with nature and has the animals roaming about to prove it. If you like Hampshire and camping then you have to stay at the Hollands wood.

Lovely large site with great toilet/showers only just refurbished. Access into the site had excellent security. However as a forestry site lots of thing had an extra supplement (extra persons, extra for people visiting and for there car, extra for wind break the list goes on)so check before committing. However loads of wild life ponies came right up to tent in the day and at night.Small shop on site but village was only 15-20 min walk with all shops inc bike hire, chip shop, local Tesco, pub/restaurant etc. Great holiday although this was our most expensive site to date(and that's without electric hook up)would visit again in the future.

Site excellent, try not to pitch near road as it is very busy / noisy! Best showers I have ever encountered at a campsite, lots of great cycle rides direct from site. Lots of beautiful ponies with their cute foals milling about. Brockenhurst 20 min walk from site has a handy Tesco Express and great chippy. Try The Foresters pub for food it is great, large portions and good quality. Went to Beaulieu, good day out and had fun going Western riding at Burley Villa stables. Christchurch and Lymington worth a visit too. Would definitely go back, highly recommended.

Arrived to a welcome from wardens who were always friendly and helpful. The campsite was very busy and although we had booked, we struggled to find a nice pitch. Once we had pitched we found the campsite to be beautiful. Trees and shrubs surrounded us and a short walk to an open field were we could play football and rounders. Also a short walk away and we were in the middle of the forest watching deer and other wildlife. The facilities on site were excellent. Showers always hot and toilets usually clean. We loved the wild horses wandering around the campsite. The only negative point was that the site was too full, but nevertheless we loved this site and will return.

This site is beautiful and if you bide your time, you can get a lovely spot right on the edge of the forest. Watch for boggy ground after poor weather, the tent entrance can become quite messy but we counteracted this with a bag of chipped bark! Fantastic for children, very safe, loads of back-to-nature stuff to do. Horses gorgeous, loads of foals but beware of leaving food or bin bags lying around, especially at night. I was woken by snuffling and bag shaking at 2am and went out to be confronted by a fluorescent collar!
It is pitch black at night so take good lighting, esp for toilet trips. WC and shower block excellent and very clean, washing up facilities very good if a little busy during high season. Launderette facilities disappointing for a 600 pitch site, 3 washers and driers are nowhere near adequate. Take loads of 20p pieces if you intend on using the driers which, if the weather is poor, you'll need as there are no washing lines allowed. Highly recommended and would visit again, if only for the fantastic horse riding!

Excellent first ever camping trip. Was quite busy but felt spacious, lots of trees to hide under. Shower block was excellent, there is 2 of them and it was clean and not busy. The camp site shop sold everything from ice, pegs, milk, water and lanterns. I recommend rock pegs if you stay on the main road side of the site because the ground can be tough. The shop also blew up my airbed when the pump broke. 10 minutes walk to shops, chippy and 3 pubs. Check out the snakecatcher, excellent pub and food. Overall excellent site but can be pricey in peak season.

This was our first time camping, what a lovely site. When I first phoned to book, they were very helpful, advising we buy a forest card, which gave us £3 a night discount on all New forest sites. The card cost £12, we booked for a week, so it paid for itself and we saved money. The site is lovely. Very clean, Horses and cows wandering around. My 2 teenagers were amazed to see them everywhere. Showers and toilets were nice and clean, plenty of hot water all the time. We went the first full week of the school holidays and did not have to queue once. Washing up facilities were the same, plenty of sinks and no queuing. As it was our first time camping and a bit unsure, everyone connected with the site were brilliant, very helpful explaining does don'ts etc. Despite the fact it rained most of the time we were there we had a lovely time. Brockenhurst is a good 15 min walk away with some lovely pubs/restaurants. Also Tescos and Londis. Will definitely think about returning to this site.

Just had 3 nights at Hollands Wood straight after 4 nughts aboard a luxury cruise liner, got to say I enjoyed the camping most!
The site is just a short walk from the village of Brockenhurst with its pubs, shops for anything you might need and an excellent chippy!
The site itself was very clean and tidy, the showers, toilet blocks and washing up space were well kept and we enjoyed how close to the ponies and cows that roam free you could get.
The location is excellent and we managed to visit Lyndhurst, Lymington, Beaulieu, Burley, Christchurch, Bournemouth and Poole in our short stay.
We thoroughly recommend this site and will definitely be making the 250 mile trip from Yorkshire again!
