Great site, very big, the map looks like a maze. Next to busy road so can be noisy depending on the wind. Site is divided by a long main road which goes past the main shower block, with another right at the far end. The road side is more sheltered and the ground is less grassy due to this. I would advise pitching on the field side as there is more grass and the view over the field of ponies is lovely. The ponies often come into the site and look for food and I found the bigger ones came all the way to the road side and were more aggressive. Smaller ponies nearer the field seemed more peaceful and playful. Shower block good and cleaned often. 10-15 mins walk to Brockenhurst, nice little village with 3 pubs (Foresters Arms is friendly and has a good atmosphere). Tesco express for supplies up the road along with various bistros and other little shops. Hardware shops sells some camping goods. 2 bike hire places in the Station car park, nice cycle routes all around. Overall would come back here, lovely peaceful place to stay.

Hollands Wood is a lovely campsite on the edge of Brockenhurst village and within walking distance of the village's many pubs, restaurants and shops. The French Bistro on the way into the village is excellent, as is the attached spa which somewhat unusually offers evening sessions and individual treatment appointments. We arrived early, yet had no problems getting in and were even directed to the best available pitch. The site itself has some flat pitches and some gently sloping. Much of the ground was well worn and did get rather muddy and sodden, however the rain had a large part to play in this and during drier spells a sturdy mallet may be required! Many pitches to the right of the through-road offer superb views over the forest grazing, but beware of those to the left as the road was noisy at times. The facilities were adequate with washing-up sinks, showers, toilets, washers, dryers and chemical toilet disposal. If I had any gripes they would be that our nearest shower block had a very small communal changing area, giving less privacy and also that the annual safety service had not been completed on our nearest laundry room rendering it inactive. Water points were within easy reach of most pitches. There is no on-site shop as such, although the reception did sell a few necessities and had ice packs and phone charging available. We didn't notice a children's play area, although the forest provided adequate exploration to keep our two occupied. The ponies were not much of a problem, but did have a nosey at times! Our biggest issue with this site was the price. With a large tent we were required to pay for two (rather expensive) pitches and also £5 per day for an additional car. Extra people were similarly expensive. Our other minor complaint would be the lack of a personal touch -at times we felt it a bit too obvious that the site was a commercial venture. Overall, it is a site we would consider visiting again however the price is a put-off.

Arrived late on a busy Friday evening which meant that with no pre-marked pitches, space was at a premium and quite a challenge to find an area large enough for all 3 of the families in our party to pitch together. Ground was also rock hard so many tent pegs were sacrificed to the cause! However, the following morning the full beauty of this campsite was revealed. Ponies (and a cow at one point) roamed around the tents which the children found fantastic. The semi wooded surroundings meant that the children were able to find their own 'dens' and the closeness to the cycle trails made it a delightful location for those of us that did not want to use the car. The facilities were excellent with several toilet/ shower blocks scattered around the site which meant that we did not experience long wait times. I would definitely recommend this site and intend to return in Summer 2007 with my camping-shy but cycle-mad hubbie as his initiation to life under canvas!

My husband & I visited Hollands Wood for one night over the weekend after Easter. It was our first time EVER camping and in our new tent! The staff booking us in were very informative and friendly (warning of us of a possible noisy area on site where some "young" people were camped, although we didn't hear a whisper from them). You get a permit sticker for your tent & your car that they did check when we drove back in later. The site operates that you pitch where you like but at least 20ft from your neighbour. It's a huge site, so we had no problem choosing a good pitch. It's a very peaceful area, the ponies walking around are very dear and we enjoyed the mass of birdlife. The facilities seemed fine to me, clean but basic, no shortage of toilet roll & hot water. We paid an extra £3 on Sunday to stay on after noon till dusk which meant our whole stay from Saturday a.m to Sunday late afternoon was £27. I'm not sure if that's expensive but we thought it good value for the whole experience & a well kept site. For supplies there's a Somerfield & a Waitrose on the road down to Milford on Sea although we only spied the Waitrose on our return from the sea because it's on a one way loop. The pebble beach at Milford is lovely, nice walk along the clifftop & two food places along the sea but that's about it. It's about a 15 minute walk to the very charming Brockenhurst for lots of tea houses, dinky shops and a Tesco metro. I'd recommend this site (despite having no other experience to compare it against) because I can't find any faults with the site, the facilities or the location. Plus we managed to get our tent down & packed away in it's bag - a feat I didn't think would be possible! That's us now, we're campers!

Best campsite I have been to. Expensive but clean, spacious, relaxed. Good cycle routes all around and shops in Brockenhurst very near including a bakers and Tescos. Had one night of listening to a few drunks and the noise of the road can be quite penetrating but not too bothersome. No playgrounds or shops on site but didn't matter. Ponies all around. I would definitely go back but the price for the tent was a bit much. Great powerful shower in the block nearest to us and nice and warm.

Returned to the new forest after years, seems alot smaller to me,or am I just bigger! Anyway I would not like to stop on this site if it had been raining it is quite boggy, there are some good hard pitches but they went fast. We ended up near the main road big mistake heavy traffic all night. The area was beautiful weather was good, facilities where terrible. The showers where always dirty, they did clean them but not a high standard. Most nights there was no toilet tissue in the ladies.
The beauty of the site with the ponies and wild life is well worth a visit, but I would not recommend it if it has said rain.

Visited this site over the Easter bank holiday weekend. Although it was extremely busy when we arrived, we managed to find a suitable spot for our tent. Went off to explore, and found toilets, showers & dish-washing facilities which were all very clean and well kept (which is a priority for us! This is thanks to reading previous reviews). The staff were really friendly & helpful - we had to get our car jump-started after over-use of the coolbox (!) - the guy came out straight away, was really friendly & job done in a couple of minutes for a small fee. Brockenhurst is a lovely place - just enough there to get your everyday items and have a couple of drinks in pub. Also, really well placed for lots of walking & cycling routes. The only thing we would suggest to others would be to pitch up as far from the road as possible to avoid hearing the traffic, especially at night. Otherwise, would really recommend - we had a fab time - loads of birds & ponies wandering around. Would definitely re-visit.

The wife and I have been using Hollands Wood for a couple of years now and always end up returning at some point during the year. We've found that it can be one of two types of holiday depending on what you want. If you want a nice quiet holiday, you can pick a secluded pitch and keep yourselves to yourselves, or, if you want to mingle with other campers, just pick one of the more open pitches. For us the main attraction is the fact you are mainly pitching in woodland and it doesn't feel as regimented as a typical field campsite. The cows and ponies really add to the whole atmosphere of having a real New Forest camping experience. We tended to avoid the shower and toilet blocks at peak times and because of this have never had any problems with queueing or lack of hot water. The toilet/shower blocks are generally clean and cleaned at least once a day. With Brockenhurst being within walking distance, you can easily have a good evening down at the local pub that sells reasonably priced meals. In fact, we have even met several of our friends that haven't caught the camping bug down there for the evening. Overall, well recommended.

What a great site! I absolutely did not want to leave. We managed to bag a really secluded spot in amongst the trees and couldn't really see any other campers from our pitch.
PLenty of toilets/showers - but the site wasn't very busy when we visited. The dishwashing area is very crammed but hey ho.
The horses and cows wandering around were fab!
Near the town of Brockenhurst which has everything you need and there is a camping shop in nearby Lyndhurst.
Looking forward to going back next year to explore the forest properly!

Gorgeous campsite. Stayed a week, 3 women and 3 children. Trees everywhere. Cows and New Forest ponies wander through the site to the delight of children. Had a fantastic holiday here. The facilities were good and the staff friendly. We rented bikes and rode through the forest. No complaints at all and would definitely come back again.
