Stayed at this site on numerous occasions it's absolutely wonderful. The location in my opinion cannot be faulted and is very eco-friendly. The toilet/shower block has been completely rebuilt and the facilities are first class with family shower rooms. There are even chargers for campers to charge mobile phones and freezers to store food. There's a basic shop for bread, milk etc. This isn't a problem because there are big supermarkets in easy reach at Llandrindod wells and Builth Wells. The food at the Hundred House pub is very good and also at the Red Lion both within about 5 miles. The Hundred House pub is in walking distance if you want a few drinks. The size of the pitches are very good and I've never felt people are to close to me. Great place for young children, loads of space to ride bikes and play in the small ponds and streams. Best site I've ever stayed at.

It had been several years since I last camped at Fforest Fields. This wasn’t a reflection on the campsite, which I always felt to be excellent in many ways, rather I was determined to try out many campsites and not simply return to the same few sites year after year. However, when a friend from down south suggested that our two families camped, Fforest Fields was pretty much equidistant for us both and so was the natural choice.
George and Katie are wonderful. When I emailed to enquire about making a booking, Katie remembered me (where we pitched, the bad weather we endured, etc. ) even though it was more than four years since we had been there. As it happened, my camping buddy was prevaricating about going because of poor weather forecasts (first we were going, then we weren’t, then we might, and so on). In the end we went a few days later than we originally booked and for not as long, but Katie was understanding and totally accommodating.
In the end we were lucky with the weather. The drive there is stunning with many gorgeous vistas. We were warmly welcomed and given a choice of pitches.
Since our last visit there have been two main changes. Firstly, a number of all-weather pitches are now available, this in response to the wet summers that have plagued us in recent seasons. Although I would always prefer a grass pitch I was rather impressed with the AWPs and would be happy to use one if the weather were bad and the ground sodden. Secondly, there is a new shower and toilet block – though that description hardly does it justice. It’s been designed to blend in sympathetically with the surroundings and to be as environmentally green as possible – though this in no way compromises comfort. Normally in my reviews I detail the number of WCs, sinks, showers, etc. , but there is no need to do so here – there are PLENTY! There is also a drying room, laundry facilities, washing up sinks, fridges, etc. , etc……. Even facilities to re-charge your mobile phone! Various provisions are available to buy (payment via an honesty box!) including milk, butter, cream, cheese, yoghurt, eggs, bacon, sausages, bread and orange juice as well as logs and charcoal.
A friend of mine expressed surprise at my choice of campsite when she looked it up on the web and on Google Earth, on the grounds that it is somewhat larger than the sort of campsite I generally go to. But that is the part of the genius of Fforest Fields; the landscaping is so clever, so naturalistic, that you don’t feel that you are on a particularly large site. I’m not a fan of caravans, I find them somewhat ugly; yet, even though there were many on the site, they were so well hidden by hedgerows and trees that I simply didn’t notice them.
The two lakes are brilliant – one for boating and swimming and the other for fishing. The shallow streams and ponds are great for exploring wildlife – kids of all ages love it. The large field gives the kids space to play games. The scenery is quite beautiful and nourishes the soul. We simply did not feel the need to get off site.
Any downsides? The only one was that the hill opposite is a softwood plantation and the trees were being harvested – the noise of the machinery was a rude interruption on what was otherwise remarkable tranquillity. But it should now be many years before that will happen again.
If you want a lively, loud, raucous camp then you will not want to come here. But for our camping needs it is ideal; the location is beautiful, the facilities tremendous and the atmosphere wonderful. A campsite that previously I would describe as excellent in many ways I now must describe as being as near-perfect as is humanly possible to be, due to the addition of the wonderful amenities block. My only regret is that I left it so long to return.
Well done George and Katie – my first ever 10/10 rating!

Excellent site with top notch facilities. We spoiled ourselves to the all weather pitch with electric hook up. There's two big fridges and freezers for you to keep your food/beer in.
Lots of dogs but the owners were all well behaved!
Pub just up the road is friendly - Hundred House Inn - didn't try the food but others on site recommended it. Not far from Builth or Llandrindod. Great walks in the local area!
Overall highly recommend the site!

Spent 4 nights in our tent. Weather was a real mixed bag with some torrential rain.
With the new facilities block this has to be one of the very best campsites you can find.
It is one of the friendliest and best run campsites you are likely to find. One tip is to make sure you have enough cash or a cheque to pay as they don't take cards.
Can't recommend highly enough - if only all sites were this good!

We stayed at this site midweek, upon arrival we were greeted by George the site owner and shown various pitches for us too choose from.
The site has lots nice secluded pitches offering shade as well as an open camping field.
The facilities are fantastic and views stunning.
I can highly recommend this site if your looking for a relaxing time and the site is a real credit to the owners.
Thanks we will return.

WOW, we have just returned from our 1st visit to this site, we have been caravanning for years and this have been one of the best sites we have stayed on.
This is going back to how camping used to be, its so peaceful pitches are fab and the brand new toilet block were spotless and very modern.
On the site there is a large lake where you can hire canoes or take your own, every one swimming.
In the shop they sell local produce where you put your money in the honesty book. The site is about 4 miles outside Builth wells, its so easy to find and very easy to get into. I was`nt going to put a review as its a site you would like to keep secret, but even when the site is full its still beautiful. Talked to lots of other caravaners and everybody praised the site and many keep going back year after year. We will going back very soon. Its a wonderful place for dogs with loads of walks straight from the site.
The owners were so friendly and very helpful, I'm trying to think of bad things about the site and the only one I could think of was our stay went to quick. Cant wait to visit again

Had a super week helped by really good weather. Absolute smash hit with the kids who made friends quickly and loved the site particularly the lake. Can't really review the local area as we had such a good time we only left the site once when we went to Hay on Wye.
Beautiful location nestled in the Mid Wales hills, plenty of walking available from the site. Facilities excellent and owners very friendly all as noted in other reviews.
Would highly recommend this site.

We'd been planning to visit this site for a while based on the reviews here- visited last week, and really loved it.
Location: quiet rural area with unspoilt town four miles away - lovely views all round campsite. Short evening walk up the hill gives magnificent view.
Atmosphere: Laid back, friendly, relaxed.
Facilities: Lake fabulous (with kayaks to rent), toilet block really exceptional, washing up sinks, two camper fridges, two camper freezers, microwave, kettle. Fire pits for rent. Owners not only develop their campsite, but also the tracks and paths on the whole estate.
Staff: friendly and helpful.
The night sky was clear and stunning -saw two shooting stars!

I'm writing this on our last night! Our second visit this year and not much I can add to my last review just that the place is as perfect as ever.
I'm pleased to say that the new facilities are being respected by campers, as I would expect. There was a nice addition of a TV in the bunk room, just for the duration of the Olympics, this was very much appreciated by our 15 year old son who spent lots of time in there with his camping buddies.
We had a fair bit of rain while we've been here and as always the site held up really well. Also had lots of sun, able to sit round the firepit at least three times this week.
We visited a couple of new places this time. Can highly recommend the Owl Centre and Farm Park at Kington, about half an hour away. On walking in I didn't expect to be there long, about two and a half hours later we came out very happy. We'd met some lovely animals and the owls were incredible.
For anyone with a passion for photography, like me, this is a dream come true, you can get close up to a selection of the hand reared owls, even handling them.
We also spent a nice afternoon in Hay on Wye, what a lovely atmosphere, some really nice shops and just generally a nice place. All the people we met in shops and cafes were lovely.
We also found a lovely dog friendly pub in Llandrindod - The Llanerch Inn, just on the left before Tescos. Lovely food, very reasonably priced and made very welcome, with a bowl of water brought over for Bailey.
Lovely holiday, thanks as always to Katie, George, Will and everyone for providing us with such a lovely campsite, it truly is a credit to you.

What an absolutely beautiful campsite. We were located on the sports field, we had 3 large tents between us and had plenty of room and space and didn't feel crowded at all.
The facilities on this site are excellent, the little extras that are provided make the camping experience just so much easier, especially if camping with no EHU (as we were), they provide two large fridges and two large freezers in a 'campers kitchen' area, along with a microwave and lockable boxes for charging your mobile phones. Just put your names on your food/wine etc pop it in a fridge/freezer and take it out when you want it, no worries about stuff going off and means you don't have to keep going shopping every day for essentials.
The new toilet/shower block is very well thought out, kept extremely clean and a pleasure to use, the toilets have hooks in them, the showers have a seat & plenty of hooks in the drying area which is separated by a shower curtain, a rack to put your bits and bobs on and lovely endless hot water, ok so you have to press the button but its not really that much problem to keep pressing it, especially when its so lovely and hot and free!
The 'shop' in reception is stocked with bacon, sausages, eggs, milk, orange juice, yoghurt, butter, wood, charcoal etc, if no-one is about then pop your money in the honesty box - the yoghurts are to die for, I don't know how I will eat a normal yoghurts again!
In our opinion this is camping how camping should be, I appreciate that everyone likes something different, but we loved the peace and tranquillity, the lovely walks over the hills and had a real laugh walking to the Hundred House pub along the suggested path, crossing the stream twice on the way back in the dark after the consumption of alcohol gave us a real good laugh. (The food at Hundred House was very good too).
A big thanks to the owners for the thoughtful extras and for a lovely holiday - we will be back!
